mk2_escort Posted June 9, 2006 Share Posted June 9, 2006 just rebuilding a mitsi engine with dad at the moment, evrything has 20+ years of build-up and crap on it. ports are suprisingly discusing. anyway, valves (exhaust and inlet) have got a build up of carbon on them that is solid as a rock. just wondaring what the best way to get it off is? is it just a matter of wirebrush drill peice and being carefull i dont dig into the metal? any help would be great Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

fuel Posted June 9, 2006 Share Posted June 9, 2006 Benchgrinder with a wire brush wheel with brake cleaner works good on valves. Probably best you take the head to an engine shop and get them to acid bath it, test it for cracks and straightness and maybe get it planed a little.
