just rebuilding a mitsi engine with dad at the moment, evrything has 20+ years of build-up and crap on it. ports are suprisingly discusing.

anyway, valves (exhaust and inlet) have got a build up of carbon on them that is solid as a rock. just wondaring what the best way to get it off is? is it just a matter of wirebrush drill peice and being carefull i dont dig into the metal?

any help would be great

Benchgrinder with a wire brush wheel with brake cleaner works good on valves. Probably best you take the head to an engine shop and get them to acid bath it, test it for cracks and straightness and maybe get it planed a little. I did that to my head and it came back looking brand new.

sorry, discusting* lol. we used this special consentrated degreaser of some sort with the wire brush on the bench grinder and its much better now. still i tiny bit left on them but we aren't too worried about it. also got the die grinder and cleaned up the ports and took the lip off them. should go much better now 8)

theres a can of spray that i used a few years ago that was awesome, simply unbeleivable at cleaning carbon from a head that i did, problem is i cant remember what its called!! maybe it was carbon off or headcleaner etc. not available at repco but was at a more trade oriented place.pretty sure it was a CRC brand
