who else has strengthened their cars?

Im in the process of "strategically" strengthening my capri by seam welding, and adding gussets. has anyone else done the same or similar to their cars without the addition of roll cages? where did you focus on?

So far i've added all the v6 spec gusset plates to my car and will add front and rear strut braces. Im quite keen to hear any more ideas short of a jungle gym (which i wont even consider)

um.. my mate is putting a VG30DET into his mk 1 for a good 350-400 bhp. I can take a good look at where his is strengtherned. I know his got trangle gussets from the chassis rails in the enginebay up to the firewall and a full roll-cage.

sounds good mate

this could be completely irrelevant, and i know you said you already are seam welding, but on most current race cars they put little spot welds along all the seam meeting lines. say one every 15cm or so. cant really tell if this is what your doing already but hey. just trying to help.

hey, im guessing his is the brown one off capriracing.co.uk, it looks pretty mean. All the aussie built mk1's had v6 bodies on them with the extra gussets, not mine unfortunately I've added as many of them as i can figure out, extra layer on the strut tops, trapezium plate from the inner guard to the strut housing (pic in project buildups) an extra layer from the bumper mount back to the crossmember along the back of the chassis rail. (inner guard) and ive added some top inner guard to firewall, and lower inner guard to firewall, chassis.

so if it cracks, it wont be in the engine bay?

I ment to go around there on thurs.. I get some good shots..

yeah it's got the double layerd strut tops.. gusset plate across the xmember.. those corner strengthing bits i mentioned on the chassis rails and thats about it on the engine bay. And a full cage built by DCH motorsport. junglegym styles.

some shots would be good, that car is goin to be a weapon. the cage will add alot of strength to the shell i suppose. pity i wont be able to fit the fat bitches in around one/ not my style etc. when do ya reckon your mates one will be running?

do capris have a stamped chassis rail running front to back or just a sub frame? u can weld steel down each side of existing rails tacking to floor to strengthen/stiffen whole car. i had sub frame connecters made to bolt from front frame to rear one on my torana they made heaps of diff and made it handle better too. and only were as bigg as stock chassis rail so were not sticking out any where to draw attention to themselves

highly recommend "stitch" welding inner guards behind front struts and down each chassis rail, me mates even done 45's on the front corners from the front of the inner guard (under bonnet) to the radiator support panel, also stitch weld along inner sill or just go full on and stitch all the joining seams you can see... alot of weight and only really good if you intend on racing it at the speedway (streetstock) or a cunning way to win a demo derby... really depends on your intended purpose for the vehicle... go nuts

The capri has escort style chassis rails under it to about halfway, then its just subframed till where the leaf springs start. i like your idea though, i'll definately run with it, see what i can come up with. even if i do just make a rail kit for it, might be overkill though, im only running 300ish hp
