Righto. So I splashed out and bought this. Got it real cheap too. Basically whole setup for under 1k (including owner CO2 bottle). Welds very well too, especially panel steel. Can wind it right back to 30A and 16V

Disclaimer - I am in no way nor do I claim to be an expert panelbeater, but I am the kind of guy that will give anything DIY a crack.

Metal and a bit of filler:

After pics. Turned out real glossy but that will go nice and dull as the sun does that to POR15. Pretty happy with how it turned out, especially my repairs.

It was windy so a bunch of dust blew into the wet paint so some of it is a bit grainy. Pissed me off.

Pretty much all the rust work I can be bothered doing right now, just gonna zinc bomb the cavities and fill them with cavity wax.

The repairs are not perfect but good enough for me - I dont want it to end up being off the road all summer.

A bit of filler and she'll be right.

Welded up a few other bits and pieces. Boring photos.

Basically I have a small list of things to do before enjoying it this summer.

1) Tidy up some of the rust

2) Fix the oil leaks

3) Install soundproofing/carpets

4) Install music device

5) Get this thing tuned, I reckon its running pretty rich. Need to eliminate the torrents of black soot it leaves everywhere, this is just after a minute out of the exhaust at idle:

Pretty stoked actually, looks like I can pretty much solve it with a rocker cover gasket and timing cover gasket. Maybe a bit of poo around the fuel pump too.

I did buy a whole head set with the intention of lapping the valves and changing the seals etc but I dont think I really cant be assed. And I dont want it to be off the road forever, cause thats the problem, you tend to get carried away and then never get to drive the car. Maybe after summer.

Righto. Has been literally 6 weeks worth of questionable weather down here. Rain, wind, cold temperatures.

Though in the last couple weeks it has been bearable so have chipped away at it a bit more.

Although not perfect, considering some of the completexity of the rooflines I am pretty pleased with how it has turned out. Some parts I will revisit when I can be bothered but now is not that time.

Also, have fixed the oil leaks! I think the fuel pump is going to need some attention and unfortunately the spare one was pillaged off the spare engine.

So incase it is unclear, the following has been done to the above areas:

  • Grind back/cut out rust
  • Weld in patches/fill holes
  • Grind back
  • Fill cavities with ZInc spray where possible
  • Epoxy Etch Prime
  • Primer
  • Body FIller
  • Sand
  • PrimerFiller
  • Sand
  • PrimerFiller
  • Sand

So it was sitting in primer for a while and I was reasonably pleased with how it was looking, we are shifting house and due to various reasons I felt I had to topcoat it with something.

Currently dont have a compressor and cant be bothered with all that hoo-hah right now, so I am limited to spray cans.

Now for some strange reason, mustard isn't a standard choice so I went with darkish yellow. I did consider going with dark grey, so it looks like its a work in progress which may have been the better option but oh well, may spray over the top at some point.

It looks suitably disturbing.

It wont stay like this forever, so meh..

Would have liked to get more coverage with the underfelt but I ran out. Underfelt is actually only stuck down with the re-stickable ados stuff. Worked well and wont make it a bitch of a job if I ever have to pull it up.

Carpets yay!!!! Not glued in yet, plan on just leaving it as is for a while might glue them in later if I can be bothered.

Pretty happy. The carpets are actually for a sedan but I think they'll cover what they need to.
