peteretep
i have a standard 1300 engine but when the engine is cold and you put on the gas it has a distinctive clicking sound and it almost stalls the engine(very rarely it does), my boss told me that it may be a broken distributor or sometihng like that. sometimes all you just have to tap the gas and it does it but other times you just have to accelerate really slowly to avoid it. also when i put the pedal to the metal all the car does it sound drowned before slowly accelerating again, im not sure what this is...this occurs even when the engine is warm. thanks
esky boi
Not sure about the stalling. But do you have a 2 barrel carb? I had a similar problem with the drowning sound, could be something different but.. I found that the jet inside the secondary barrel of the carb had come loose and had moved round so that the hole was pointing upwards instead of down towards the throttle butterfly. So at full throttle it was just opening wide, letting heaps of air through and hardly any petrol.

Guest jomojojo
Most likely your carburettor needs some attention. Goto a local specialist and have them recon the carb then tune it on the car. Pity your not in welly or you could bring it into work and i'd do it for you. Check your points and distributor cap for cracks or moisture also. Sparkplugs ok? Try rule the cheap things out first as carb recons are expensive.

Guest Eddie W
Could be a blocked pump jet as well.
peteretep
fuel pump? well i just got a done up 1600, do you think a standard fuel pump will pump enough or do you reckon i should get an uprated one. The guy who i bought it off was running an uprated one so the hole where the standard pump goes has a plate covering it
