lowlancer
This post will be edited each update. It will document the build up of my 1978 Mitsubishi Celeste. As you can read above, it started out in quite different situation to what it finds itself in now. Thanks for reading 2005 May 24th Found a sigma, $400 with WOF Rego, 2 new tyres, 4G63 in top condition, good compression, 5speed manual, mint interior, no rust It was literally 4 houses down from my mates house acrosss town. Jun 19th Just purchased an original unused "GSR" badge, still in original packaging with sales ticket attached August 7th Some decent pics. Last two from first day in my ownership. The 4G63 is now installed, along with 5 speed. Is quite quick, can keep up with 4AGE powered corollas and DA Integras etc. Massive change from the old 1600 and auto. October 3rd Wheels on, taken with pxt phone Oct 13th Got my 25mm spacers but didn't take the wheels out as much as I'd hoped, so guess I'll have to get some non bolt on 5mm ones too! Or 8" wheels with more dish. Also, got some Pioneer 2 way speakers from work for 30 dollars, as we've stopped selling car stereos, they were 130 bucks. Not bad really November 25th 2005 Finally got my camera working Need to lose the black bonnet, get the spacers on properly, get some fender mirrors, and lower the front about 15mm, and it'll be looking close to how I want it to look 2006 Jan 17th Picked these up yesterday, for 50 dollars, good deal considering they're 350 new Will probably get them HPC coated, bit of under bonnet bling March 8th New Motor, new plans. It is the high output 12 valve turbo 4G63 from a Mitsubishi Starion Little, filthy turbo April 25th Shitty old TC-05 New TD-05 Comparison July 4th Reconned radiator I got for fifty dollars Downpipe Current state of computer and wiring. Will abandon this for aftermarket I think Manifold with wastegate flange on Battery box, almost smoothed Wastegate, pump regulator etc July 9th Well after like 3 months I got my motor back, fresh as a daisy. Camera was flat so busted out phone which won't let me take 1.3Mp either for some reason... Basically spent the weekend tracing more wiring, and painting bits and pieces to tidy it up. Seems my gearbox is fucked too, so might need a new one=dang. Also swapped exhaust end of old turbs onto inlet/wheels of TD05 so it would all bolt up, worked a treat. Errr, also started on fuel set-up with surge tank placement etc and sussing fuel line sizes, and also placement of battery box Also got my new exedy clutch kit. August 14th Before During After Not much clearance with these motors. leaves a wankload for an i/c though Manifold is being rewelded up for wastegate flange. Wiring looks like a mess, but it has to be done. Also, the driveshaft didn't want to play ball, so that's next. Aug 31st Current pic as of today just to show it won't actually be that tidy. won't be sticking with TC turbo or crosspipe either, just to get her going. And my "new" grille. Pretty happy with it, cost $80 but looks good. Also scored a heap of new parts for free, facelift taillights, GSR badge, headlining, grille etc etc Sep 17th My new mirrors The manifold more or less complete Sep 28th New, cheap, probably crappy intake kit from Malaysia. Looks damn good though October 11th Microtech ecu arrived finally. May take me awhile to install due to my best friend dying. November 5th Update of sorts Pic of engine bay as of today. gave turbo the blacktreatment for something different. I like the look Turbo My fuel pump bracket November 15th Brand new clutch cylinder Fuel pumps and surge tank. Not the final position for holley. Does anyone know if I can mount my holley lying down? Just have to sort electrics, see tech section if you can help, suss some 1/2" fuel line, bleed brakes and clutch, and get driveshaft flange welded on, then I'll be rolling hopefully November 25th Well worked my ass off all day from 8am but still no go! All that's left befre I can turn it over is to connect the coil and resistor. Avoided it all day... Day went like this Got up, had some breakfast, a strong coffee and a cigarette. Sun was out, awesome day ahead. Mate Jon came round. Loaded up driveshaft tools and otherstuff and ;eft for Hamilton. By the time we got there, mababre was already waiting. Ex was parked up the front, should have snapped a couple of pics really. Managed to get a starion fan and crossover pipe, and a full set of locks and an ignition barrel from a celeste with key=$60 Macabre boosted off. Left wreckers, dropped off driveshaft. Turns out I need a full retube, and new uni joints. $380 Got back to cambridge, grabbed some lunch and spent up large at Super Cheap. $150 Went home. Sun was cranking. We worked until 5:30pm solidly FINISHED New locks and barrel installed Microtech mounted Battery 100% mounted Fuel pumps and lines with tank installed 100% Alternator attached and wired in with new belt New stud drilled into manifold for thermostat ECU loom plugged in 90% TD05 fitted Sure there is more. Sunstroke owned me. NOT DONE Coil and resistor/relay 12V to ecu ECU ground ignitor to coil plug That's it Hopefully do some more tomorrow after work. Get driveshaft back monday. lowlancer
Most badass fuel holding method. Note proximity of spark. Macabre and mate=sketching this shit, fire extinguisher nearby Pwnt by rust. Dunno what to do here, bonnet is caned and can't find another, might just polish it out Holla at mean dipstick. Oil pressure=nominal Got from 12pm off today so if all goes ok, I should have it started, really just need to sort this spark issue which seems straight forward as. taking camera home, so expect decent update. Once I start it, I'm gonna book exhuast in, then just work steadily tidying shit up, getting ready for cert early next year.
lowlancer
Well it took a week longer than expected, but it now starts and runs, albeit rough as guts. Need to sort overfuelling. This motor only runs on one injector during idle apparenty, not atm though. Bogging down hard. Also got rims today, so HAD to test fit for photos. Can't wait for real thing! Way more dish on the back naturally, but should still be good for 2-3" on the front, maybe more And a rofl at current "exhaust" Sweet
lowlancer
Mocked up a centre with cardboard, haggard but looking badass
lowlancer
Hopefully can get it started thanks to this. Need to set TPS and calib a couple of bits. Didn't come with the cable which i thought was a bit jewish seeing as it was $100 And my new downpipe No o2 sensor though, weird
lowlancer
Been awhile since update of any sort As most of you know, this is being a nightmare. Found out one of my injectors is stuffed, so managed to track one down in australia. Would explain overfuelling/rough idle, so hopefully this will have it sorted. Havn't really done much else got some cordia turbo seats which are almost a bolt in but can't really be fucked with them, we'll see. Plans are to move to Wellington in Julyish, so need a working car. Don't want to sell her so am going to send it off to a local guy to get finished once running. Will be interesting to see if I can afford running costs as a filthy student Really just needs exhaust, tidied fuel lines, driveshaft loop, hole in firewall patched and fuel pumps divided from cabin. The cert time Look forward to having a fang with welly/palmy boys. Here's a recent pic anyway

lowlancer
So got starter repaired, checked it, checked battery (was showing 13.5V). Went to assemble her all together and noticed it was getting a bit messy in the engine bay so…… jump forward 4 hours and I’ve semi-deloomed half the engine bay, starter still not on! Moved fuel lines, ran most wiring under inlet manifold and covered all car loom with split tubing and ran it by chassis rails almost out of sight. Moved coil, ballast resistor and relay to behind the left strut tower. Was considering moving them in cabin but would be difficult to work on should there be a problem. Also removed all unneeded bolts and screws from inlet manifold. Moved fuel pump relay to under dash. Taped up microtech loom and cut down to a more efficient and unobtrusive size. All looking quite bangin, when compared to before. Tonight’s plan is to get coil etc wired up correctly (I know how to do it this time) and do the other side, along with replace Celeste alternator with Starion, which runs no external regulator. Also want to figure a way to run leads in a tidier way and tidy up the paint in places. I figure I may as well keep doing things in a tidy manner seeing as that’s what I’ve done thus far into this build. Anyone know where one would get Perspex? Need it to construct a box for my fuelling arrangement. See-through so I can tell what’s going on, and light enough to not make a big difference. Awesome, so amped on this thing again. lowlancer
Got new starter and solenoid from a Sapporo. Attached it and triple checked all wiring. Checked crank signal, perfect. Try to crank, solenoid would click, then all power direct from battery was gone. Replace solenoid, same problem. After every crank, all power would be gone from both the crank wire and the starter motor main feed. Swearing and crying ensues at this point. Flatmate comes out, literally walks to rear of car where battery is, wiggles earth and proclaims “Battery earth is fucked bro†
lowlancer
Fitted up the VR4 spec 14B TD05 finally today. All that's left to do is find a wastegate actuator and a bit of silicone piping for crossover pipe. Looks a lot bigger than TC05, and I'm thinking I'll also paint it black, I prefer the look. What you cunts think? Sounds sick spooling up, definately takes a bit longer than TC05 to get going.

lowlancer
Spare DASH head and crossover pipe arrived last night. Can see why it was $75 to get delivered, bloody heavy, but the fella did a mint job packaging it. Started tearing it down, got the manifold off, got the throttle body off and tore it to pieces, stipped manifold of every single nut and bolt, clip and sensor. Stoked with condition. Injectors look brand new, just cleaned filters. Scrubbed manifold, and various throttle body parts, including fuel pressure regulator, with a wire brush and degreaser. Came up brand new practically. Plan for tonight is to take existing throttle body off engine, tear down for the last time, take existing inlet manifold off, paint new manifold high temp gloss black, paint various sections of throttle body the same, make up new gaskets with existing ones as templates, reassemble throttle body with two 1100cc injectors, rewire new throttle body with existing throttle body connecters for ecu, attach throttle body to inlet manifold and call it a night with a mint throttle body and manifold! Then over the next few days attach the whole lot and hopefully start tuning for the new setup with plans of skids this weekend. Also scored crossover pipe for DASH engine which also happens to meet the outlet of the new TD05 perfectly, all I need is a silicone joiner with a slight angle on it. Looks a million bucks too. ALSO, got a standard colour cam cover, so will chuck that on too, looks better than the crass orange Will take pics tonight guys, post tomorrow and delete this post. lowlancer
Rebuilt throttle body with one average one and one fairly good one. Obviously chucked two big injectors in there. Looking pretty good, I’m happy. Also painted mint manifold, not warped like other one. Proof will be on the weekend when it all gets swapped and tested finally with water in it. All dependent on whether Repco can get me my inlet manifold gasket. Also got a TD05 wastegate actuator for 35, bit more than I wanted to spend but it’s done now, will allow me to get that bad boy spooling up. Fully amped right hurr, two projects at once, awesome way to spend time/money
Rusted
Tis now mine. Back to basics. 4G63 or 4G54 depending on time as this would be 100x better that racing the Mustard whale around the track. I have 3 weeks. GOD DAMN.
Rusted
Picked it up today. Looking so sad on standard rims. Will patch it up next week and source an engine. Hoping to have it legal before the Nats, may the OS Gods look down in me with luck.
Rusted
I have located a 83 golant 2l 5spd for $300... Hopefully have the running gear in the celeste and running by the end of the week. Also bought a '90 VX-S golant for a E33A power source. Re-power after nats if I stay motovated.
Rusted
No E33A, they won't go though with the trade. $1 res backfired, give me the car you bastards. However my 83 golant arrives today.
Rusted
The blue beast arrived today, It's far more ugly then in that pic. Will take it to my mates work tomorrow and lift the engine and box out. Anyone want parts hand up now, the car will live there from tomorrow.
