atropine
ok.. got a few plans for the panelvan.. but also a few questions in the head.. Its getting my old 1600sport engine, which currently is paired to a 2l corty box.. and the 4.1 diff (i think). The girlfriend, who the panelvan is going to, hates sitting on revs more than she has to so, especially with the 4.1, a 5spd is a must.. or possibly a new diff.. (altho ive also heard panelvans had 3.89s..). Also a 5stud conversion would be great.. im guessing off a xw-xc falcon? I have no idea how expensive the parts and work would be though.. i know shitall about suspension.. even less than i know about other stuff.. And finally, ive got a spare sport dash, which i plan on chucking in, but due to it never having a tacho im not sure how easy it is to wire up.. so questions..any general info would be a great help.. how easily does a type 9 sierra5spd go to a 1600xflow.. does it have to have an auto (i think it had an auto in before i bought it) or modified tunnel? any flywheel issues? i have the basic jist of the driveshaft problem but any help in that area would be good.. any stick placement problems? -any info on falcon (or other) front struts and rear axle going into an escort (panelvan in particular at this stage..) -any info on putting a sport dash into a standard escort without tacho? any help would be great.. the projects still a while off as the body is still getting attacked.. thanks in advance to anyone with info to help.. also, matter of opinion here, but ideas on paint for panelvan? im thinking blue at the moment but could change.. original idea was dark green.. for a mk2 esky panelvan, twin side windows, black (unless can come up with cash for chroming) 1/4 bumpers all round.. another matter of opinion, wheels! if we could sort out a 5stud conversion, we were hoping for s/s cragars (altho im skeptical on what theyd look like on a escort..). whats some good 5spoke 4stud wheels? simplicity is good, polished or chrome, around 13-15" mark.. probably 15 as the range is better but dont wanna go bigger than that.. :violent2:
mkcortina
I found this site which might help you it deals with the New Zealand 5 speeds as they are different to the UK 1's http://www.mcs.vuw.ac.nz/~kris/escort/gearbox.shtml
Burntrubber
I put a sport dash in my old van just wired it to the coil directly cant remeber how to do it exactly but I worked it out by myself in the first place so it cant be that hard. Had a 81 4door ex auto with a 5sp witch I sold last year my mate did all that but I think he had to cut the gear shift I modyfied the crossmember for him had to shift the hole centers. Hope this helps.
SYKOV6
why do ya want 5studs should b able to get the mags ya want in blank form and drill em to the esky pattern. falcon struts are totally different so they wont fit. u could put a falcon diff it . the diffs are cheap look 4 a ute one they are 3.5 ratio or wagons are 3.25 . 3.25 might b a bit tall 4 a 1600. will have to get it shortened approx $600 plus driveshaft mods. u could do a falcon disc conversion . i think the kits are about a $1000. i have falcon stud pattern on the corty but im using mk3 zephyr hubs which bolt to mk2 corty stubs dont think they fit esky if ya can find em
Toucan
mkcortina bet me to it! I was gonna offer you that link, it answers all your questions with the 5spd conversion. As for the dash... //oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1885 Personally I wouldn't bother changing to 5stud, for the cost of it you could just about buy some nice 15" wheels

SYKOV6
my mate shane from m&t in hastings gets blanks in quite regularly for non standard fitments its just finding the correct offset thats the prob. anything thats over 7in wide [which is most rims bigger than 15in dia] will b difficult to fit to a esky normally requiring flares to keep them legal. not that it cant b dont theres plenty of cars out there with them just ya choice is pretty narrow. most cragars are deep dish so prob wouldnt suit an esky. put a falcon diff in it and mini tub it then fit some 15 x 10s that would look sik in a van
atropine
haha it would.. although we plan to sleep in that thing.. and sleeping between tubs? fuck that
