So finally got my new escort home fixed all the wiring and what not. To my surprise it wont start its been modified cam etc.. the crackshalf turns over but nothing else cam wont turn dizzy doesnt turn and u cant even turn it by hand it that tight.

I know this engine came out of a working car. So it was going and i find it hard someone would spend a days work putting a engine in the car doing all the mods to make it fit and rewiring the whole thing with all the wanked up guages and what not u can see where hes put all new gaskets and cambelt and know it was fucked to make quick cash. heh

im thinking something is seized thats worst case scenerio

but also something like timing might be completely wrong or cambelt way to tight or they touched something not really sure, Ive contacted the guy i brought it off he sold it for his friend.

So hes trying to find out what hes touch in it. The guy who sold it for his friend brought the engine in the first place for his mk3 cortina also told me he spend big money when he brought it. Then sold it to his friend then he was going to buy it back but i got it before him lol.

so yeah anyone got any ideas what could be wrong?

Is the cambelt actually on it? cambelt tensioner too loose?

hmm good question we were thinking tensioner way to tight or too loose could cause it u can see the belt sliping off abit but its really tight on there tho

we arent to sure how to loosen the tensioner on it so we can try reset it

i hope its something simple like that causing it.. but yeah keep them ideas coming because im hopeing the engine isnt fucked

ok got the cambelt off dizzy and bottom pulley moves

only thing that wont move now is the camshaft hmmm might be seized?

Might try the tappets setting as that may be way to tight and are holding the camshaft in the one place? sounds abit far fetched but im desperate to get it working haha

Try turning the camshaft with a spanner on the pulley nut, spray some crc in the bearings first that may free it up. You may need to take the head off and take the camshaft out and ream the bearings out a little.

anyone know what that metal bar thing is on the right hand side of the cam?

it seems if u loosen it u can move the cam really easy if u tighten it u cant move it at all

anyone able to tell me what it is? and how tight it should be? im guessing hand tight

Its the oil spray bar, how long are the bolts? they generally seem to be about 7 to 10mm long. They are only 10mm bolts so only tweak tight.

well thats what i thought that they were oil spray bar but then i loosen the bolts and noticed the cam became easy to turn and if u made it tight tight u couldnt move the cam at all?

so being a oil spray bar is shouldnt affect the movement of the cam? should i take the bolts out and check how long they are? its a 10mm spanner

maybe someone put longer bolts in for unknown reasons? :/

ALSO

This is real important how do i set the timing i know the pulleys and dizzy gotta be pointing at there little marks they have.

But whats the fireing order what inlets has to be open etc..?

try to research on the net only found this

"camshaft, crankshaft and distributor timing marks (triangular arrows) with No 1 piston at TDC on its firing stroke"

is that all or what? im not really sure just trying to find out all the info i can before i try and i dont want to kill the engine.

cheers guys and girls :)

cant realy help much but to maybe try a repair manual, but a little advice for next time;take a cresent with u to check the next motor turns over b4 u buy;and when removing a timing belt that u may want to refit again, mark the pulleys and belt with a twink pen so u can set it up correctly(provided the last guy did to start with) :D just a little advice, hope u have some luck with ur new motor 8)

cambelt back on with timing set, it has bigger screws in the oil feed spray bar then it should. This was the reason why the cam wouldnt move and notice its got a broken screws in the middle been snaped off so the spray bar hasnt be working 100%!!! Got my mate whos a mechanic to do the timing and hes fixing the rest of it too. So i got lucky he wanting to help!!!

will keep yas updated.

engine specs that i know of

cosworth cam dunno if it is but i say at least a fast road cam as u gotta idle it pretty high just for it to idle,

flat top pistons, double valve springs, larger oil garleries, thats what i know off my head i didnt build the engine so cant be 100% what else is in their / been done but the guy spent 3-4 grand building it so i would say most things been done.

things i added recon dizy, new leads/spark plugs, 40mm twin throat webber "off a v6 capri" and custom 2 and half" extractors

ill make a new post when its a sunny day so i cant take lots of pics and put them up :D
