Was changing my regular 1300 dash to a dash with a tacho and odometer and i thought it wouldswap straight over but it doesnt it seems. it fits in fine but the wiring must be different becuase the fuel/temp guages dont go and i dont have any back lights, infact the only things that do go are the 5 little light up things for indicating battery oil and high beam. just wondering if anyone had similar problems and how they overcame it.

cheers

is it really worth all that trouble? the only difference is the tacho isn't it? why not just get a small one and mount it inconspiculously.....

or you could always get a 10" monster tacho with a 4" shift light and hang it off your sun visor.....

Ok here goes...

The big 9 wire loom, hold it facing you (as if you were about to plug it in), and the colours go left to right:

Black/White, Blue/Black, Brown, Blue/Green, Black/Yellow, Blue, Blue/White, Red/White, Black/Green

The smaller 5 wire loom, hold it vertically facing you (again as if you were about to plug it in), and the colours are top to bottom:

Grey/Yellow

Black/Yellow

(Here you will need to make a new wire that goes to the negative of the coil)

Brown

(No wire in the bottom space)

Theres a trick to taking the wires out of the loom, slide a pin along the wire into the back of the loom, and theres a small tab that you need to push down, then just pull the wire out. Remember to bend the small tab back up before sliding the wire into the new location in the loom. Thats about it, worked for me and trunk so should work for you too.

I dont think we really need a workshop article for this do we??? Its just basic stuff, and now its on the forum anyway

ok i got the 9 wire sport loom it seems everything is connected but the rev counter doesnt work, could u tell me what the wires are like power earth etc.. ?

its hard because the guy i got the car off redid the whole loom so its kinda hard to know where everything is / going to the right place

and where abouts does the rev counter connect to negitive on the coil and where else?

cheers

the tacho only needs a wire from the neg side of the coil directly to it.

is your loom al lone colour or different to the wires in the guide above?

u need some sort of power going to these then the fuel wire to get the reading??

Yea I'm not too sure aye :?

I switched all my wires to that order and hey worked, I talked Trunk through it and it worked for him too.

When in doubt, unplug all the wires and start from scratch

Are you sure you have the "left to right" order correct? with the plug orientated as if you are about to plug it in?

I've got all the original wire ordering written down if you need them just ask.

so whats not working? just the tacho? double check to make sure its connected to the neg side rather than positive? how have you wired up the coil wire? i didnt have a spare connector so i had to solder it to where it shud have been if i had another connector for the 5 wire plug..

everything else on the dash works but the rev counter fuel/temp

and yes its on neg side of the coil and its connected to the coil. By one of those coil plugs dont know there name but the wire going from the rev counter to coil has abit where u plug the coil neg plug into then another end that goes onto the coil. if u can understand that not too clear maybe i should take a pic :P

but reason fuel/temp isnt working as they are not connected as i was going to connect them to the cluster guages

Rip the instrument cluster apart, get the tacho, and hard wire it in with fresh new wires, see if it works.

Going from the original to the stock you have to add in an extra wire, and did you say the guy before you did this? I'd chuck a fresh new wire in there just to be sure its correct.
