esky boi
Straight from the haynes manual for the 1600 it says: 158-184 psi at starter speed

Draizuh
Welll the haynes manuals were made around the time the escort was. so they had healthier ones then [/u]
Stacov
just did a compression test 1 cyliner 150 2 cyliner 150 3 cyliner 90 4 cyliner 150 So not good theres no knocks/bangs so could be the head. A burned valve or something? i got a spare 1300, what will happen if i put the 1300 head on the 1600 block? will it raise compression or make it worst? or am i better off putting the 1300 in now and striping the 1600? v3k
I think the next step is a leak test. Not too sure how you go about it but Im sure someone here will know. Something to do with finding where the pressure is escaping.
Stacov
well i know theres leaks in inlet manifold and exhaust but that shouldnt make a differences when compression testing anyone know what the valve timing inlet and outlet should be ? *UPDATE* just got cyliner 3 to test @ 130 from 90 by just changing the valve timing on the tappets but i really need the proper specs to do it properly thanks
Draizuh
even tho youve found your problem ill add that putting a bit of oil into the problem cylinder and checking it again can also raise the comp... and if it doesnt it brings forward the problem of your seals.. Stacov
Ok will try that still gotta put new spark plugs in as only 2 are working properly hehe ill be getting the car tuned probably in the next couple of weeks once my mate has moved to his new house so no rush i guess. But i tell ya what getting the cyliner 3 to run at 130 it goes way better and idles properly now too
Jerm
valve timing? you mean the tappet clearances ? should be inlet 10 thou (.25 mm) exhaust 22 thou (.55mm) and i think that is at cold.. so you best to leave it over night.. and you will have to put the car in gear and get the valves fully closed .... so that the followers are o the heal of the cam.... best to consult a manual if you have one...
