RT fucks up

Man, I managed to import a YB cosworth headgasket for my boosted pinto. I paid for it this morning and I got it for $255 when they retail at $400

I had a picture of it and it looked like it would do the business with the staunch ring setup.

Then later today went oogling at it again I notice to my horror that the water galleries are slightly different...mainly much bigger cutouts on the cossie.

...thats when I remembered that the Pinto head used to have heat soak problems until Ford redesigned the headgasket with smaller holes restricting the waterflow and in some cases cutting it off altogether. This eliminated the problem.

Fuck. now I don't know what would happen if I used it anyway...or if I should re sell the cosworth gasket or what to do. :x

bugger huh?

weeeell not really.... it's a $5,000 engine and I don't really want to do anything risky like filling up the holes...that would also require a complete strip down.

Also you'll notice that some of the holes are still there but smaller... this means you can't just block them up.

I wonder if there's a way to put a thin copper shim in there as blanking plates with the correctly sized holes...but this would cause some degree of lift in that part of the gasket so I don't think that would work.

I'm trying to talk to some of the bigwigs who know what happens if you run the galleries fully open......

Anyone got a Cosworth with a blown headgasket? I could be selling one..

hey don't rub it in I already feel like an idiot....I was too busy oogling at the wicked ring setup on it that I just didn't even think to check the basics. Assumption the key of all fuckups...I just thought, well the blocks the same so sweet as!

would have a fukin clue bout cozzies bro, but when i rebuilt my xflow the aftermarket gasket i got for that had huge holes too, where the one that came off it had partially blocked ones like yours. Im still usin it and its still goin hard. engine never really gets hot at all, usually just over the cold line... dunno

yeah the xflows are completely diffferent bro. The early pinto gaskets were the same as the Cosworth serrias. But they found that the cast iron heads suffered from heat soak.

As you can see the cosworth now has the water only going down the exhaust side causing the water to re circulate around. The Pinto has more even water drain but way more restricted keeping more water in the head....

But I've found a dude who's used one and i'm seeing what he has to say about it.

I've roamed the net for the last 24hrs. So far the poll is about 50% for and 50% against using this cossie.

One of my contacts in Germany has used one for a year with no probs and reckon's one of his mates also use one. His Pinto is big boosted too.

However Burton don't recommend using one they recommend buying a Felpro....off them.

Another dude has one in his rally pack escort, but claims it came with the engine setup and he doesn't know much about it.

Other pinto highrollers say not too....

etc etc
