  1. I dont run a vacume tank either just a heavy foot on the brake works fine. The first time they where on I didnt balance them. This time I have big difference to the perfomance
  2. So the bike carbs are back on and balanced. Electric fan now and a new alternator. Drivers seat has been rebuilt by me no more broken springs. got the O2 sensor up and running. But all the up grades had a price 1st gear only lasted 4 days so gear box rebuild now will post pic's next time. It does have a lot up and go now for a little car
  3. I only had mine on and balanced running well for 4 days and brought 1st gear home in my hands must be a bit more hp there now will let you know how the 1.7mm jets go put an O2 sensor in
  4. I have had mine on and off 3 times now added an o2 sensor today and got them back on also got my self a carburetor synchrometer to help balance them. I run 1.6 mm jets on a 234 cam but I'm running a little lean need to up the size. We made our own mainfold. Just got to sort out a vacume tank next for the brakes. Which will be on the next mainfold. They are a bit of mucking around but alot of fun when they run right. Hard to find someone that knows how
  5. Yeah great day for a lock diff a bit much traffic around going out later for a drive lol
  6. Cool project keen to watch your progess. I know its a long way to find some thing I got new window rubbers from http://www.basisnz.co.nz/product.pasp?c ... ductid=580 pretty reasonable price and great service
  7. So been a while Had to get a new alternator gave up repairing the old one some times you just have to draw a line in the sand. Diff been though it's second rebuild still there is a problem . It's at steely diffs at the moment having some adjustments done. Bought a temp diff that was ment to be a 3.9 lock diff just for a little fun. Turns out when I took the head out that it was a 4.4 with 9inch brakes in it so bit of a score on that deal. Put a new set of 9.8mm leads on big difference to the way it runs now. Fuel pump died number two now have a loan one thanks to bmac. Till I decide on what type of one to get any ideas welcome needs to be 3-4 psi. Bike carbs are off for the moment till I sort out the other issues. The vibration is a real problem . Had the drive shaft balanced last week no real problem there. So next is change the gear box.Been offered so many reasons why I have a vibration. None have fixed the problem as yet. Idea's welcome Currently putting new springs into my seats how hard could it be????
  8. Nice order wish I had some spare funds at the moment lol
  9. So been busy since the nationals. When it only had the webber on it. Got the bike carbs on and running but there are issues the exhuast wrap went from this, To this after 500km thanks Red Line nobody seems to know why or can explain why. Then there is the way it runs. It bogs down badly till 3000 rpm so I played around with the needle jets with no joy But after 3000 rpm it just lets lose and goes the cam lets it rev all the way to 7000 rpm. Then there is the fuel smell very strong in the car even for someone that doesn't mind the smell. I have sorted out some air cleaners just socks have them on order . Have been given a nice crome oil breather tank but still have to fit it yet starting to run out of room might move the battery to the boot got a nice new large one 600cca The brakes still need to linked into the vacuum they are very hard at the moment so research has been pointing the way towards a cylinder type set up not sure where I'm going to put it just yet. The inside is starting to look very tidy So loads still to do yet just to get running well. And it goes back to get the front bearing in the diff replaced the preload was wrong and it killed the front bearing already so should be all quiet by Wednesday night meeting.
  10. Found the issue pulled the first cover off and the clip had poped out so one of the neddles wasnt in place correctly. Hopefully the air cleaners will be here today. And I think i need to save some $$$ and get it tuned correctly. Any one know of any resonably priced places in auckland that can do oldschool well?
  11. Sweet I have mine on 2 now but its running real crap up till about 4000 rpm before it was in the middle and ran well from 3000 rpm but spat unburnt fuel out at around 2000 rpm so I'm going to try it on 4 which is near the top and see how it runs in the morning. On the motor way I'm hardly using the pedal to keep it at 100km so I hope it will be cheaper on the long runs testing it this weekend taking it to the coromandel for a drive. As for filters I'm trying to find some after market motor bike ones there are plenty of options but have also read that they affect performance.
  12. So far I'm on 1.6mm I just move the needle jets down but its the wrong way going to move them back up where do you have your set? 1 being the bottom 5 at the top. What did you do for air cleaners? I'm trying to find some at the moment. I want to put air cleaners on before i go any further.
  13. Yeah I drive it a lot not sure it will contuine with the carbs on it getting a bit costly now the webber was far cheaper to run. But no where near as much fun.
  14. Bike carbs are on the car. It's exciting as hell to drive still a few things to sort out. Will post pics and vids over the weekend.
  15. Yeah it was the diff got all new bearings in on the friday of the nationals. Vibration gone but the diff wasnt set up correctly so it still had a wine . So it's away back in tomorrow to get that fixed. Oh and we bolted the bike carbs on in the weekend made a big difference to the way it goes still some issues to sort but getting there.
  16. The diff is completely stuffed so much so that the front bearing in grinding and vibrating the whole car.
  17. One piece drive shaft fitted test drive showed that it still has a vibration. So diff is being rebuilt now. I wanted to leave in an hour lol and I have a buckled rim to add to the problems to solve before leaving to go to the nationals.
  18. Put a one piece drive shaft in but thats not the problem. The diff that is in there is nothing short of rooted. And I have fat chance of getting fixed tomorrow seen my car has spent the last 3 weeks on and off in the workshop and it's still not done.Starting to doubt it will make it???
  19. Got some better studs so that should fix the problem or I will turn up to the nationals in a tractor lol. Also picked up a one piece drive shaft. Not sure about the 3.5 diff dont think that will make it back in to the car which is a shame . But the carbs might??? get on the car. So if they do I'm looking forward to seeing how it will go.
  20. Try some fuel injection cleaner in the tank will help clean the inside of the carbie if there is any crap in there. cheap and worth a go.
  21. It went up on a hoist today needs a new hanger bearing and the diff needs repairing so I should be able to get the rebuilt diff head back in. Just got to find a hanger bearing in time. Then it will be all quite I hope. And ready to go. Not many days left now.
  22. So its been out a few runs the last couple of weekends no bike carbs on yet. They will have to wait to close to next weekend now. There are more pressing problems it has loosened the header bolts twice in less than 500 kms and lost a stud as well today. And the diff has started leaking out the front and there is a bad vibration in the car to. Either gearbox or drive shaft. So loads to be done this week. All the car is back together now all the carpet in and all the interior done to. Warrant was a clean sheet and it handles very nice now with the wheel alignment done.
  23. Stick with the 1.6 kent engine some head work bore out the bottom end and you will have a great engine that will go quite well and no cert required. Will suit the age and style of the car. You dont need to go to crazy to get good hp.
