  1. Haha it can be a costly attitude sometimes, the lifters are noisy in the scamp, to me the glass half full meant that the fix was to buy a new cam kit instead of just lifters haha
  2. At least then you can literally put it anywhere you want in your shed.
  3. The concrete was right on the 120mm thickness which is the minimum for the hoist, yeah the expansion cuts dictated that the hoist is slightly offset to the garage door as the posts had to be 100mm from them.
  4. Well as per usual the best laid plans came undone in regards to getting the brakes on the Belair, however it’s definitely for the better the guy who is installing the hoist came around last week, worked out where the hoist could go, and that he was available this weekend, or sometime in December, so instead of doing the brakes I was on a demo mission to make a bit more space in the garage, yesterday was D-day and I now have a hoist in my garage, it’s like all my Christmas’ have come at once, I’ve dreamed of this for many years but never figured it would happen. It’s not yet wired properly, so I’ve rigged a ghetto 10a connection up, today I will start on the brakes. Once that’s done I can get the scamp on the hoist and get into that.
  5. Please do, I’m looking forward to seeing this thing making clouds like the sedan used to.
  6. Done anything lately to this @cletus Also here’s a pic for inspiration
  7. @cletus staying 5x4 is simply so I can use the steel rims I already have but to be fair that is getting less likely to be the end outcome, also Its currently got a 7.25 rear end so that will need to be upgraded as I do want to make power further down the line, will likely head down the explorer path as you have, which will make the rear end 5x4.5 so getting the front end 5x4.5 now isn’t a major problem, I may have a lead on a set of 14” Aunger mag wheels from the dodge fanatic in my hotrod club so will see where that goes.
  8. So I’m going to start doing some things to this to make this more driveable for the wife, first step is front brake upgrade to boosted discs, To that end I’ve purchased a CPP kit from Chucks restoration, I looked at bringing a kit direct from the states myself but because I’ve bought a fair amount of stuff from Chucks they gave me a good discount which made it cheaper than brining it in myself, plus they had it on the shelf so win win, It includes everything to swap over onto my factory spindles, I could’ve got a kit that with 2” drop spindles, however that would’ve meant to get a reasonable ride height I would have had to run higher psi in the bags which would’ve made the ride quality rubbish. So that will be this weeks mission,
  9. So I knocked the studs out of the front rotor and assembled the brake calliper, went to throw the wheel on but unfortunately the centre bore is too small so while it looked like it would clear I’ll never know, I guess I’m on the the lookout for a cheap set of valiant 14” rims although I’ve spotted a set of 14x7 hotwires on trademe for 420, only problem being is that they are in Southland,
  10. Started to pull the VJ valiant brakes apart, looks like they should bolt straight in, lower ball joints are different in the steering arm between the Plymouth and valiant but the bolt pattern is spot on Upper ball joints look all good too, I’ve decided that When I get new rotors I’ll get them redrilled to siut the SBP (5x4) so i can keep the 14” steelies (as long as they fit over the brakes) i gave the car a clean and decided to sit the eagers by it, gives a rough idea of the look I’m going for
  11. Shit yeah bro, gotta be stoked to finally see the back of the compliance guys!
  12. Because Cletus reckons drum brakes are lame. I bought some VJ valiant disc brakes, different stud pattern (5x4.5 instead of the 5x4 the vehicle currently has) but hoping I can make Something work from them, got 4x callipers, 2 Aussie A body Disc brake spindles, upper an lower control arms, torsion bars and steering linkages. Really only wanted the spindles and 2 callipers, but for $350 (including shipping from Dunedin to Auckland) I couldn’t complain, once I’ve used what I need, I’ll stash the rest for a rainy day.
  13. You sure can, only in 245/50/14 though so bigger car size
  14. Cheers @piazzanoob, hopefully after the hoist goes up the work should pick up a bit. To be fair I’m taking a bit of a punt on it. I figured as much as I’m going to use it, it should be up to the task. I’ll let you know in a month or two once I’ve got it in and have used it.
  15. Finally got the car back from the panelbeater, am very happy with how it’s come out, still need to move one more wall in the garage so I can get the hoist installed, but I’m currently swamped by the multiples of jobs that need doing when you first move into a new house, also we have a 1978 Anglo caravan that we are making useable for the family Xmas holiday so hopefully I can find some time to do more work on this haha
  16. Gotta love it when the fedex man arrives. Just received this from Summit racing, ordered Wednesday the 12th, delivered to NZ on Monday the 17th. Can’t complain at that. Panelbeaters says I should have the car back Friday. Then it’s all go!
  17. Rear screen is out and it’s good news, no significant rust, just a bunch of scale, it’s being cleaned up now (and any Pinholes being sorted) and then the roof can be painted and the screen refitted. Hanging out to have this home again so I can work on it. In other news The car sounds like it has a collapsed lifter, so today I ordered a comp cam/lifter/double row timing chain/valve spring kit from Summit racing. I hadn’t planned on it but if I was going to go to the effort of replacing lifters I may as well upgrade stuff.
  18. got a good deal on a 500cfm edelbrock carb and performer inlet manifold. Should hopefully make a bit of an improvement over the factory 2 barrel stuff just waiting on getting the car back from the panelbeaters at the moment, there was a hold up with the guy who was supposed to remove the rear windscreen as he got sick and ended up in hospital. Hopefully he is back at work on Monday and then work can proceed.
  19. Well house move is completed, unpacking is about 65-70% done, which means I have been able to start working on the shed to make it a workshop as it has been converted into a living space, so is fully lined and insulated and has a heat pump (spoilt I know) however it has a kitchen and walls where I don’t need them. ive started on removing the kitchen carpet will be removed next. And today I ordered a hoist, got a new 4 ton single phase motorex hoist so should have that in the next week or two then will move the walls on the other side of the barn and life will be good, anyway while this had all been happening the car had been at my Panelbeaters to have the roof stripped and repainted (but mainly to get them to store it while we moved) went and had a look today, overall the roof is in good condition, and we are just waiting to have the screen removed so we can see what’s hiding under the seal And today my new tyres turned up will get the wheels to the steel surgeon to be widened once I get the car back from the panelbeaters and then have the wheels painted to match the roof, and will hopefully get a set of dog dish hubcaps or some spun bullet centres slowly doing heaps of jobs that have no bearing on getting it legal haha
  20. Makes it look easy, I once spent a week with a hammer and chisel removing that stuff (luckily it was a quiet week at work so I ended up getting paid for it haha)
  21. @nzed yeah fully man, he went way over and above what we were expecting aye!
  22. Got the missus a birthday pressie, Had it done by Charlie Allen of Charlie’s Pinstriping and kustom paint, needless to say she’s stoked. As am I, it’s bloody perfect! Charlie is an absolute genius who far surpassed our expectations
