  1. Hard to explain but with the engine bolted to the gearbox the cross member holes in the chassis are at least 100mm to far back for the gearbox mount point. This is in a mk2 cortina that was auto column going to manual column. And what is illegal here? Can I use a bracket to join them or does a new cross member have to be made and new holes drilled into the chassis ? I'm using the automatic cross member as the tunnel is wider than the manual and the manual is not wide enough. two steps forward one step back good times please help me oldschoolers
  2. I'm surprised you didn't buy that proper mk2 cortina floor change box I sourced for you hehe to late to change my mind?
  3. More difficult than its worth lol. Nah its really not that bad. You will need quite a few bits so not recommended unless you have a whole complete setup (on the parts car style). Steering box needs to be changed to manual one(or at least the mounting point for the linkages(easy) pedal box needs to come out and be modified to suit new pedals(easy) Linkages have to cut off an redone (tricky) hole drilled in firewall for clutch cylinder (easy if you have the tools) Thats as far as I am currently. I've been pretty lazy with mine but I hope to get it sorted in the next month or 2 you will also need the obvious parts like clutch setup, flywheel, gearbox, manual pedal box, linkages an brackets, steering box, driveshaft, starter motor, manual steering surround with manual column shift stick Think thats all. If I were to attempt it again I would probably try a 4speed escort box. Annoying to say now but it would've been easier and quicker. So much fiddly crap with linkages
  4. It looks like a fantastic place but I wouldn't wana step on any toes. I really need somewhere abit more independent
  5. I'm guessing that won't be all that suitable for me but it looks great!
  6. I'm contemplating renting a storage unit for my project car as the weather is starting to get to it (1970 cortina) Need to know what im in for and what is reasonable rates ect as I really don't know what I should be paying for what services... Basically what i'm after is a single car garage. Power is optional as I don't intend to do any major work on it while its there although having lights and a stereo there for when I do wana change over wheels and stuff would be a bonus. I know they are everywhere to be found but i'm wondering if anyone knows of any good ones or bad ones to stay away from? I'm in woolston so local is good but open to anything.... So yea who rents and where and what do you get and how much do you pay?
  7. Thought i'd give this topic and ending.... Link never got back to me.went into absolution I didn't get a good vibe from them and they were 160 an hr and also never got back to me with a design. My friend was getting a tat from someone out in darfield so I went along to watch/meet.Booked a few weeks later. Had my design drawn an tattooed within a week which is pretty awesome. Going back for shading tomorrow looking pretty awesome atm. Will post some pics when its finished
  8. I will be there most likely! either in my ratty cortina or in a mint orange escort! could possibly bring another couple cars with me
  9. I has a whole car of parts pretty much perfect situation. Get a complete conversion that I drove to my driveway and a bunch of other misc parts I was needing. I've dabbled in this before but not with the linkages so there is alil bit of fiddling to be done. I just like every other man enjoy a good fiddle tho....
  10. im converting from column shift auto to column shift manual. It all came out pretty easy but theres a fair amount of work to be done putting it back in. Mainly linkage stuff, PITA but I'll get there
  11. wonder if its worth removing the engine ... have done in suzuki before it was a bitch lol
  12. so the conversion has begun. Any tips on aligning the clutch? I don't have the tool. Are these still available for old cars?
  13. I dunno washing powder? Was just curious
  14. Is it the soda dust+ force that removes it? What would happen if you used other "substances" ?
  15. he can only do below 2.5 just been there the other day
  16. going to safe r soon for wrx exhaust. Which I think is 2.5 or 3in so will see what he does when im there. Hes good to deal with form previous experiences
  17. how about some safety gear e.g goggles that go all the way around the face, NOT glasses steal cap boots for the unfortunate accidents which do happen (rarely of course) welding gloves and helmet fire extinguisher any other useful safety gear that might save you a 500$ bill at the ER someone should make a "heres my accident thread" recently while taking a torque converter out of my car I wasn't paying attention and knocked it off the engine to 500mm drop onto my hand.Resulted in a pretty nasty gash from the cooling fins and a sore finger for a week. If I had been wearing gloves no doubt it would have be so much better. probably a bruise an been sweet as to keep working. Food for thought. even when you think shits going well all it takes is a careless mistake
  18. I'm really digging those new wheels! p.s looks like I might have scored a roof rack just like yours
  19. good stuff, why not get your auto sparky to convert to alternator? much less hassles potentially
  20. that compound turbo is awesome! How does the intercooler work?
  21. So took old bellhousing out today to find that the box I got from horse won't fit >.< the mounting points are different. back to square one. Also does anyone know how to split torque convert from engine? I got the 4bolts holding it together off but it seems to just spin freely without coming off? My manual had no mention of how to remove it so Wondering what ive missed
  22. I suspect they couldn't find the fault because its intermittent, Probably something like you say or a fualty earth or even a computer issue. Realistically I still think I can make some coin on it somehow
  23. Hmmm might take it for a drive tomorrow then. At the least I think I can get the 2k back for it. More hoping to pass it on quickly and gain some cahs for gotina Then again all I need is clutch kit, selector fork clutch master and salve an hosing and its running. If I wasn't working 50+ hour weeks I would have it sorted. This week is gearing up to be a 70 lol
