  1. Now tell us about your engine crane- puhuhuhu... Seriously keen on either yours or Shane's, keen to start pulling engine out this week so I'm ready for this when it arrives hopefully next week. must be running for Hanmer!
  2. I'm imagining giving them a sketchup model of the shell and the specifications (ie what your needs are) and they fill in the gaps - to be honest 95% will be rubbish but there might be some good (probably left field) ideas that a teenager could stumble across - kind of like an ant colony...
  3. The time invested in those swivelling seats will be a drop in the ocean compared to the pleasure you'll gain swivelling and reclining in them once your kids are in bed. Pretty damn cool as a project - have you got interior plans sorted? I can literally throw a class at it in 2 weeks if you haven't, as Shane still hasn't given me the deets on his bus.
  4. I can get a van assuming it'll fit inside one!
  5. Has anyone local got an engine crane they can lend/rent to me for a month or so? Keen to get engine out of the Beagle asap!
  6. True! At that stage I'd only owned a 1980 Accord and a 1983 Prelude so figured my judgement may have been a little off. The engine I've lined up apparently has been rebuilt with a 10.5:1 compression ratio, headers and a chipped ECU.
  7. Yup - it's an EF5. The only car I've driven with a ZC DOHC was a 1980s Civic Si - as a 15 yo I thought it was amaaaaaaazing.
  8. Early last year I was on the hunt for a car I could take mates on MTB/tramping missions, without caring that I night come back to it with smashed windows etc. be4ver was selling this in Ashburton - after a few hands through the OSGC freight service, (cheers Karl and Corbie) it made its way to Hanmer where I got to know it better by spending 2 nights sleeping in it. After watching VGs achievements in the Carib I had decided that 4WD was the logical next step to waghappiness. I came across the weird vehicle that is the Honda Beagle - as far as I can tell this was Honda's last attempt to get rid of shells they had stockpiled, as it was sold alongside not only the EG, but also the EK Civics. A few months ago one came up for sale in Nelson, and I convincingly sold the idea to my wahine. I turned the Shuttle and new Beagle into this and this. The Shuttle sold within a day, and I enjoyed mucking around in the Beagle - it's far more capable in mud than it has any right to be. The only issue was a stuck ABS solenoid making a horrific noise - skillfully internet diagnosed by KK. Last weekend I took it on its first decent open road mission to the local OS monthly meet with all the whanau on board. Unfortunately after ~ 100km it lost oil pressure at idle and started making an awful knocking noise. I towed it home on Monday night (stupid me not opting for AA plus BEFORE I needed it). My brother volunteered his workshop as neither of us has mucked around with east/west engine layouts - having put feelers out for a new engine in a few places it looks like I may have sourced one of these. It's a ZC DOHC but with a few other goodies - we'll see how good once it shows up! Aiming for this to be back on the road ASAP, but with an absolute deadline of Hanmer.
  9. It's not quite dead - it'll still run, just no oil pressure at idle -> 1200rpm then a sweet knock beyond 2500 rpm.... In all seriousness - can I bring it out to your place tomorrow night? Hoist will be inevitably needed/paid for use of! I have swindled a car trailer for the evening and a DOHC ZC motor (the same one that's in the CRX you mention above!) is actually looking like a semi-sensible replacement!
  10. If anyone has access to a car trailer it'd be much appreciated!
  11. Super - so I'll be at WOW pretty much just on 10, will head to Picton via Queen Charlotte and arrive middayish - do we have a meeting point at Picton?
  12. I can probably go far as to say as lock me in - first weekend of the school holidays.
  13. Super - looks like I'll be there with boys and possibly wife. Bring your respective families, lets make a day of it!
  14. Is it just me, or is there more than a passing resemblance with these noses?
  15. All sorted - half a dozen 'skids' on gravel loading up the ABS and the squeal is gone. No fun at all was had finding out how well the 4WD hooks up in mud either...
  16. Sounds like that - I assume if I ripped it out I'd also lose 4WD?
  17. http://www.danoland.com/nsxgarage/brakes/abs/abs.htm I'm going to have a play with this tomorrow, I mean an NSX is basically the same as a Beagle... Looks like KK was on the money with the stuck solenoid.
  18. Soooo - pulled plugs off the ABS pump/I don't know what it's really called - sound has disappeared. Gosh it sounds lovely without the sound! I have spotted that chris r might be wrecking one...
  19. Ahhh that might explain the 2 different ways I've seen to disengage 4WD...one on the gearbox and one on the snout of the diff. No idea what I have. Will have to get it up on stands...
  20. It has ABS on the back window and ALB as a warning light so I'm guessing that = ABS. So you're saying it won't have a viscous coupler but an electric clutch instead? Sorry if I've missed the point...!
  21. I like the simplicity of pulling fuses too!
  22. Sweet, that sounds good to me too, no VTEC, but there is ABS and a funky viscous coupling 4WD that must have some sort of solenoids in it. Next time I get some sun I'm going to pull some stuff apart!
