  1. l Not sure what year it is - different tail lights to yours, but 'Stranger Things' features this fine vehicle a number of times.
  2. That is very very cool - I remember an advert for these when new in the UK. The heading was something like the "70 + 70 mph car". The 3.5 ratio goes someway to explaining how it was possible!
  3. Beagle is in bits - away for the next 2 days - will be there (in Beagle) with a couple of new chaps to initiate.
  4. It has one chip where it's missing about 1/4 of one edge - it looks to be some sort of cast iron so beyond my ability. The engine seller still is optimistic he can get one - I just want to get the car working as legitimately as possible before the wof runs out next month.
  5. New crank pulley showed up on Friday - finally got some shed time this afternoon. It's the wrong size again. 3 months is getting a bit silly to be still waiting for the right stuff to be sent. Back to the shed to earth the cat sensor. Has anyone had any joy with having crank pulleys repaired?
  6. Which wire - the one immediately after the cat? As in earth it once and that's it, or run a new earth wire for it?
  7. I noticed the power steering had become a little heavier after doing a full lock manoeuvre. I figured as per the advice earlier in the thread that perhaps I hadn't bled the PS correctly/enough. Spent about an hour getting all the bubbles out of the system. Only to look down at the PS pump and spy that the belt was off and destroyed. Obviously the chipped crank pulley is too damaged to be used. Eventually the engine seller found me the correct replacement - and it's on its way to me today. Otherwise it's driving well. Except for the warning lights - I've disconnected the ABS pump until I can fit a replacement - there's one in Motueka that should be cheap if the seller ever gets back to me. If not - removing ABS looks like a good idea - I'm guessing this would be a wof/cert issue? This also triggers a 4WD warning light. The O2 sensors in the exhaust obviously didn't like the raw fuel being poured onto them before car was running correctly (I assume that's what has happened?) so the exhaust temp warning lamp is on from the moment the car starts.
  8. Ha - yes, I was hoping there might be a little more DOHC ZC specific knowledge over that way...just bought some EF3 door panel decals (as below but silver) to go with my boot DOHC
  9. Unsure about zetec, but redline appears to be in excess of 7500rpm...
  10. Modified distributor cap from SOHC ZC with a Dremel - appears to have sorted intermittent dieing. A shame that it wasn't sorted before Hanmer - but not bad considering we had nothing more than an engine sitting next to the car 14 days ago. Quite happy to have it home. Need to sort a catalytic converter replacement, something a little more free flowing wouldn't do the DOHC ZC any harm either. Super keen on avoiding drone if any one has any experience/clever ideas!
  11. Not throwing a code at all now- car is humming along (happened twice at 50km/h and once at 90) and all of a sudden fuel/spark cuts out and it cruises to a stop. Get into the engine bay - wiggle a few connections and normal service resumes. I plan to get it running this morning and figure out what I need to wiggle to get it to cut out, then retension all the pins in that plug.
  12. Quick update albeit pictureless - there may be some videos at some stage 23/8 PS Pump arrived, installed along with belts and radiator. Turned over but no firing - spark plug socket too fat to fit so abandoned for the night. 24/8 Spark plugs replaced - fired, had big exhaust leaks and idled at ~3k with an error code 25/8 High temp silicone RTV installed - drove car around block but no power, now multiple errors codes 26/8 Did some more trouble shooting - replaced idle control valve with one off old engine, adjusted timing by ear - still probably need a timing light to get it all sorted. About 9ish I'd driven 50km and was convinced I was going to drive to Hanmer in the morning. Started dieing randomly without an ECU code - I think there's a dodgy connector on the distributor but it drives sooooo nicely. Will find in the morning and see how we shape up for Hanmer in the afternoon.
  13. Ha, cheers. The manual makes that sound so easy I can see how you could miss it - I'll spin it twice as many times as I think I should! Most things are going pretty well - wiring is now sorted. Came across another engine seller balls up this afternoon - the crank pulley he sent was not the correct one. Hopefully it will come down with the PS pump. Tossing up whether to refit radiator now or after I fit the PS pump. Kind of want to get it in so I can test fire the engine. edit: Tablet photo for thread - fitted radiator - then decided to be a grown up about it and wait for the PS pump to arrive. Pressurised fuel system. Pump gets sent Monday - should arrive Tuesday. Wednesday at latest. All I have left to do is fit pump, belts, radiator, fill then bleed radiator and PS and we should be all systems go.
  14. Parts arrived yesterday - mostly sorted except for a power steering pump that blew my mind for 2 hours. Only to find tonight the seller had sent me the wrong pump. Will be re-sent on Monday, better be here Tuesday so I have some fault finding time! Be prepared for a phone call Thursday night with me in tears...
  15. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2384903317/ My parents live in Stoke! Yeah this weekend is probably not a winner for me - unless everything I've done to the Beagle is perfect and needs no tweaking. We could always have a Beagle meat where you can come and poke fun at what I've been wasting time on for the last few weeks...?
  16. Does that mean you're a local now? What part of town are you staying? A simple pub meet is probably not a bad idea to get people out of the woodwork.
  17. Decided letting my brother have 2 weeks of peace and quiet at his place after a new niece arrived was enough. Engine back on mounts with no hiccups (Except for a power steering line that will need to be routed correctly). Bonnet clearance looks to be tight visually - but civicwagon.com reckons it's not an issue. Tomorrow I should have everything sorted except for, ECU, dIzzy and dizzy wiring as all parts are still waiting to be sent from Auckland. Departing for Hanmer in 12 days.
  18. Good work, good to see you made it back to Nelson without serious damage! - it's currently parked on my walk home from work so I can keep an eye on your progress! My wheel pick, but google image search shows how versatile they are - a lot of wheels look great!
  19. That bridge is in the wettest place in the country - I've been across it probably ~50 times and I've never seen sun overhead as in your photos. You must/not believe in the correct gods.
  20. How was the road into Milford? A few years ago I'd stayed in Invercargill and thought I'd book an overnight cruise in Milford. Booked and paid for it before we left. A friend of mine, a pretty conservative driver told me it was about an hour from Te Anau to Milford. We had a casual lunch in Te Anau and left ourselves 1 hour and 10 mins until the cruise departed. 2 mins out of town the sign said "Milford 110km - allow 2 hours minimum". The next hour was the dodgiest driving I've done in my life. Soooo much black ice ABS action, but we made it.
  21. The road filth that proves this car is actually being driven and enjoyed gives me a lot of pleasure.
  22. No pick a part in Nelson unfortunately - fortunately the engine seller is now sending me the original ones off the DOHC ZC. Seeing as it has taken him almost 2 months to get it to me I guess it's good that there is a silver lining!
