  1. So now fast forward to our current situation in lockdown... I ordered a top end gasket set as an "essential item" so I could assemble the 4g63 sohc that's in it. Turned out the motor I put in it from my parts ute had a head done just before I bought it and they had never torqued the head bolts correctly causing the gasket to leak... So today I stripped the head, did a quick valve grind, chucked new valve guides in and new cam seal, then couldn't find my tourqe wrench to assemble the head. I'm gathering it got stolen when my shed got broken into a while back. Good thing is theres one at work I'll use.
  2. Suspension wise it has some king springs that came from a Mazda 626 in the rear, cut to suit desired height with mirage adjustable damper shocks that keep them captive. Up front it has starion struts, shortened shock inserts, unknown king springs cut to suit, station lower arms, band new brake pads, rekitted brake calipers, new balljoints, new swaybar bushes etc. Only thing I want to change is adjustable camber plates for struts and a strut brace Ignore the 5 stud hubs in pics, it had 5 stud station hubs but I've gone back to 4 stud now
  3. Over the years this had blown a few diff heads and axles from excessive skids but I managed to acquire a factory turbo 10bolt, disk brake lsd from a parts car I bought for $150 !! Bloody good score as some people pay $1500 for these diffs. A set of factory turbo tail lights and center garnish had popped up for $200 so I snatched them up also Although the interior was extremely tidying wanted some recaro fishnet seats so got these from a bighorn The dream catcher and hippie shit hanging from the mirror has been there since day one and will stay there too Have purchased a fiberglass wing/spoiler/duckbill whatever you wanna call it, have never fitted it just sat it there I'm still in two minds about it
  4. Well well well, the title should hopefully explain this well... This is my baby, the car that holds far too many memories, the car I could never part with, yet it's the car I neglect and leave sitting in the corner of my shed and never work on.... This journey started around 8 years ago when I had a 12a Bridgeport motor and box in my shed and I was on the hunt for a rolling body to drop it in. I was fixed on a s1 rx7 body I found until a mate sent me a trademe link to a near immaculate, completely factory green gsl ex lancer, him doing this knowing I had always wanted an ex lancer. And so it begun The 12a never ended up in it, it started as a 1600, then had a 4g63 sohc, then probably a few more until I dropped a 4g63t dohc turbo vr4 block in it. Unfortunately money got tight and I sold the motor to keep the mortgage and mrs at the time happy, so it went back to a 4g63 sohc carby. This did have a thread from the early days but its goneburgers now so we will play 8 years of catchup
  5. So at first when it failed a wof before Christmas I got my workmate to check why it had a knock in steering and he assured me it was the wrack itself not the wrack ends. Turns out I've been hunting for a wrack for no reason it was actually just a wrack end...... gggrrrrr! So ordered one off repco as an "essential item" , slapped it on in there and we will get an alignment and wof once lockdown is overs. Also wired up some sweet speakers in front doors and rear parcel tray I raided from the au falcon padock car, freebies!
  6. Both front and back, I can remove lowering blocks and go 1" smaller in rear to fix that but might make it hot rod spec. I do have original springs for front but cant be bothered changing them to be completely honest. A rubber spring spacer could be the go also which I have a feeling I may have somewhere..... Was just hoping I could change wheels to achieve wof height, used to do this on the old crown wagon each time it got stickered, just swapping wheels got it back over 100mm
  7. Sweet car alright! Have seen you post the odd pic on the mitsi pages on fb before. Good things take time so 10 years into it isnt bad, I'm 8 years with my ex lancer and it's still nowhere close to how I want it to be, keep getting distracted with other cars
  8. tried the 17x8 17x9 riverside mr3s on to test fit ground clearance for wof, still not quite enough but they only have 205/40 & 215/40 tyres. I do have another set of 17" bbs with 215/45 tyres which may just raise the height enough for a wof. I do like the riversides on it but the diff definitely needs to be narrowed for the 9s with a +11 offset.
  9. Managed to get the recaro seats mounted today, didnt take much just original L200 rails, drill one hole on each rail to mount them. Feels so much more comfortable. Still need to rivnut one hole by tunnel for each seat but cant do that until after lockdown
  10. Checked and adjusted the valve clearances, all were fairly close just minor adjustments. also replaced the waterpump, flushed the cooling system and refilled with some tectalloy coolant. So was a productive first day of isolation. Would have been nice to brake clean the grime under the engine covers but were running on limited supplies currently
  11. So I snuck this home from work on Wednesday night after work, ran the risk as i needed something to keep me occupied during lockdown. It was running like a bag of shit, felt like two cylinders but persuaded on my 10min drive home Cleaned the distributor cap points and removed spark plugs to discover they were fouled up bad. had a spare set of near new plugs so threw them in. Ran good for a while then started to foul them up again. My thoughts are over fueling? The fuel pump is rated as 6psi with no regulator so I'm guessing maybe it's too much for the carb to handle.
  12. Yeah it is a Carter pump. Okay never knew that cheers! I acquired this pump years ago so it's no biggie if it doesn't do the job. Originally these just had a mechanical pump on the motor so I'll see how it goes but if it does create issues I'll know where to start looking. Do you have any idea what psi rating these pumps have?
  13. Cheers, yeah I'm in two minds about it. I dont want a mint looking ute as I will scratch the shit out of it. The evidence is in my mazda bt50 that had two scratches a broken tail light and broken fog light before it had 500kms on the clock..... So the cunning plan me and a mate have been discussing is a paint job but making it look patina I guess call it a "fake patina" ? He has experience in doing it. Tempted to change to a different style of wheels too but the diff will definitely need shortening for what I'm wanting to do
  14. This was originally 1.6 and column change so yeah same thing. Not sure if it was a Todd motors vehicle I've never actually checked
  15. With the postponement of beach hop I've decided to go back to taking my time with this build, I just simply wasn't getting enough sleep trying to push for a target that was hard to achieve with doing long hours at work aswell. Hopefully I dont get any ridiculous ideas in the meantime but I've found a gsr 1800 dohc turbo motor but I think the wise decision is to leave this ute how it is and the gsr motor will be better suited for my ex lancer but time will tell...
  16. At first start up it was leaking oil and I started wondering what I'd messed up, turns out I had forgotten to tighten up the rocker cover bolts so easy fix! Took it for a quick drive down the end of road and back, felt damn good to have the first drive in a ute I've put soo many hours work into
  17. Bit of wet weather today meant a day off the big machines and some time to rip into some work on the ute Put the new hanger bearing on the driveshaft and decided to replace all three universal joints while I was there. Finished off the rest of the exhaust, its 2.25" right through, one hotdog muffler and one big boy keep this thing quiet muffler at the back because I'm too old for noisy shit... Has a nice tone to it
  18. Glad to see that sedan went to good use, I know of the guy that had it. He had it a fair few years I was quite surprised to see it for sale. Loving the wagon though mate shes looks a beauty
  19. In relation to your sway bar mounting, i take it that's a Mitsubishi one your using? Mitsubishi has a wide variety of sway bars that could be interchangeable for what your trying to achieve. Some mount further forwards on the body than others and some give more wheel clearance but in general the mounting points to the sway bar link are fairly similar in width. I've always used starion/sigma swaybars in Lancers and direct swap in
  20. Had my mate josh helping me today, absolute GC! He made up a bracket for mounting the fuel pump, wired it up with a relay and fuse. Swapped plugs over for the window wiper motor as it had been torn off. Sooo blessed having a hand as I suck at wiring and I've been struggling to find the time to do it.
  21. Had ordered plenty of bends as I'll use any leftovers on my lancer. Would order more 45s next time though they seem to be what I used most of
  22. Spent most of today making the exhaust, not the prettiest welds but they work. 2.25" is what I went for, took abit of effort to keep it tucked up high. Got as far as going over the diff with a hot dog muffler just before the diff. Is still rather loud but I'm putting a decent muffler on up the back to shut it up.
  23. Turns out I ordered the wrong gearbox mount. No worries itll fit my lancer. Fitted new front shocks tonight. tried testing the lights and it's clear there is some gremlins to sort out. Wiring is definitely my weak point but lucky my mate is a genius with automotive electronics so he will be on the job
  24. Yeah very true, somehow my ute, lancer and mirage are all 1982 models and that was never intentional. Did have a 76 lancer but sold it to bigfoot to fund house Reno's, glad it went to good home though
