  1. My guess is a bit of both TBH. On the list for removal. And am wanting to stay away from Diesel a lil' bit. Though TD42 would be cool. Doubt it would fit however.
  2. Been thinking of a few options for engine upgrades for this, trying to keep it in the Nissan family, so: RB20/25DET SR20DET VG30E/ET/DE/DET/DETT VH41/45DE Anyone have any suggestions/ideas for any of these? I am wanting decentish torque as well as reliability, with all out power not being super important. Also wanting reliability.
  3. Sounds sweet. Grill should be easy enough to make fit.
  4. Sooooo... as many of you probably know (and are probably sick of hearing about) I'm looking at doing a twin headlight conversion on my KE70 wagon. Just wondering, is the radiator support panel different at all between the slant front and the twin headlight front? If it is, is there some way it can be modified to fit? Cheers boes.
  5. In saying that though, don't take me the wrong way, I'm happy to help however I can, just saying painting isn't my area of expertise.
  6. Common misconception. In general, most panelbeaters will just do panelbeating and leave the painting to the painters. For my cars, I'm just getting the bros from work to paint them for me. I will be learning to paint towards the end of my apprenticeship, but not yet.
  7. i will help in return for help on my mitsi lol(needs panel work) Haha, get in line. =P I have three cars of my own, and then a grooooooooooowing line of people who need some mates rates panel work. But yeah, could be keen, once I catch up on my own panel work.
  8. OH FRICKEN HECK YES. That's amazing. also makes me think that some of those just coming up the front type bull bars could be the goods, instead of just the wrap around type? Look hella good on that anyway.
  9. Yeah I'm in Whangarei, live out Maungatapere but do most of the work on this in at work (Kevin Gray Panelbeaters). I'm just tidying it up at the moment, trying not to get too carried away because I have three cars and this is MEANT to be the reliable one that I can use while doing up the other 2. And if the Police give me trouble I can just run over their squad cars? Haha That sounds dodgy, unless they are welded in place spacers? Or am I missing something? Anywho, at the moment I kind of want to leave tyres /wheels at the moment, considering I just spent 1100 bucks on wheels, and soon to be a fair bit more on tyres for my red KE70. There is a 4x4 place in Whangarei that I may go to, just to browse the shelves. I just want to find some shiny running boards and a bullbar, and adapt them to fit at the moment. As well as I'm giving it a panel at the moment, lots of primer spots at the moment. My life is so full of cars... IT'S AMAZING.
  10. I do want to raise it, however I don't really understand the concept of raising. I understand lowering well enough now, but raising is something I haven't quite got my head around. How does it work/how do you do it? Big wheels and tires are on the to do list, however the tires on there already are already pushing it in terms of legality, i.e. they sit outside the guard line just a tiny but. So some 4wd flares may be the answer.
  11. Yeah seperate transfer case. From what I can see on the internets they are apparently extremely strong (the transfer cases) and are sought after by 4WDers. They don't have a seperate bellhousing on the gearbox sadly. How would I do an engine swap, is it possible to make some sort of adapter plate or something?
  12. Hmmm, don't know if it has an LSD, may have to do some offroading skids to find out. Oh darn.
  13. Project thread: //oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic. ... 74#p734274 Discuss away to your hearts content. Any thoughts on easyish power upgrades?
  14. So bought another vehicle. I think I have an addiction. Discuss: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=30255 It's a 4WD Datsun 720, as in the title. 110,000 kms, Z22 engine with a 5 speed gearbox. Nothing too whiz bang but it does the trick. Overall very tidy just has some surface rust nothing too big. Will be tidying it up and repainting it in the factory colour as I can't be bothered touching areas like under the bonnet. Yup. Anyway, it doesn't exist without pics right? Here's some pics I took when I first got it. And proof of low kms winning. But plans are to just tidy it up, and get rid of the canopy. Haha
  15. Thanks for that, will have another crack at it in the next few days. And no, I haven't got the kit yet, but at trade price through work I can get the whole kit for under 300 dollars inc GST. Just need to wait a few weeks to get it in from Japan, as there isn't any in the country atm. That's a good price for brand new Toyota bits if you ask me.
  16. Recently picked up a Beams blacktop 3SGE (VVT-i) for this: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=29241&p=704249#p704249. Needs a rebuild. Having a little trouble getting the head off, have done all the obvious stuff. Does anybody know if there is any trick to getting the head off one of these? Let em know if you can help.
  17. This might sound dodgy as f**k, but it's an idea. I'm assuming the BOC is like pressed in? Give it a light sand by hand, 80 grit will do, bog, sand, then rattle can over. No trace. If it's not pressed in, rattle can that bitch.
  18. I have a Beams 3SGE going into my other KE70. I would say the hassle is definitely moreso with that than an A series engine, due to mounting issues and all the rest. A blacktop or turbo 16 valve isn't off the cards as of yet, just weighing up options. Hell, if I was made of money I would be running a 1UZ with ITBs. But I'm not. I'm looking at all options, and I couldn't find much on this one. So I thought I'd ask.
  19. So for a higher compression I should use the Blacktop pistons? I will be sourcing a whole blacktop engine for this from my uncle so using as much of this as possible would be preferable. However those conrods that phatt20 mentioned from Spool are only 500 dollars (U.S.?). What compression ratio would these give? Here's the link: http://www.spoolimports.com/spool-conro ... fe-conrods Does anyone know if you can get an aftermarket lightened flywheel, or would my money be better spent getting the factory one lightened? So my shopping list (so far) would be: -Blacktop head with ITBs, -7AFE block at least, probably easier to buy a whole one. -Spool rods, -ARP rod bolts, -Blacktop pistons, -Gilmer drive kit, -Link or other standalone ECU, -Adjustable cam gears. Anything else? What sort of headgasket and cambelt do I need? I hear it's a Peugeot item, does anyone have a product number or similar? Also what sort of gearbox would I want? I have a T50 with the A series bellhousing at the moment, would that suffice? Cheers guys. =]
  20. Was thinking of building a N/A 7AGE, to replace the N/A 4AGE I currently have in My KE70 wagon, when it comes off the road for it's twin headlight conversion/general tidy up. I did a search on here/the general internets and have found information generally inconclusive. I know Seedy Al has had a 7AGE powered beast before, as well as some other OS members. My general requirements are: -Reliable. -Only semi make-me-brokeĀ®-ish. -Semi good power, meaning over the power of a standardish 4AGE. -Higher revving, which means I want higher compression? So, what I would like from you OS boes is your general advice, and help. I want to run the blacktop 4AGE ITBs, so would I be better off using the blacktop head or getting an adaptor kit so I can use the 16v head? Also I plan to use a Gilmer belt drive kit and run some sort of standalone ECU, if this info helps. Let me know if there is any other information I can provide to make answering my questions easier, as I know you guys hate answering "plz hlp me gt mre powa broom broom" type questions. Share with me your knowledge, oh wise ones.
  21. Thanks man. So excited about this build. It's good to know someone else is excited too.
  22. SOOOOOOO... Pictures, and progress! Some pics of when I got it, on the way home, and when I got it home and parked it up beside my KE70 daily. (2 weeks ago). This is good... just needs more diameter, and longer. Pulling the engine out, to sell to my mate. (Last weekend) Sponsored by CAT light penetrating oil had to lube quite a few/all of the bolts. Some were fairly stuck i.e. typical rusty KE. Should probably have drained the oil out of the engine and gearbox BEFORE pullig them out. Woops. Forgetful me. Me and my mate Braden's KE70s parked up next to each other at the local servo. Got some of the boys to roll out later that night to pick it up, along with my mate Kevin bring his V8 Commy ute for transport duties. Probably could have chucked it in the back of my car but didn't want to get it dirty(er). Being such a light engine and gearbox, 3 of them just manhandled it on to the back of the ute and it was held in place with a single tie down. Haha Which brings us to today. Haven't done too much as have been in Auckland most of the weekend, only got back last night. However today got stuck in, spent an hour or two stripping the front end. Got everything off besides the valance(?) panel, under the windscreen, as some moron who owned it before me actually welded the wipers on (forgot to take a close up picture), so I have to cut them off probably. More work. * sigh* However, I love using the roof as storage, creates heaps of space. Haha Also, Dad stripped the engine down further to find out what is wrong with it. It's most likely a run bearing but we can't be completely sure, so fingers crossed it's a relatively simple and easy (read:cheap) fix. He got as far as taking the rocker cover off and deciding the head looked good, before taking off on his motorbike because the day became sunny. bloody weather, why can't you be crap when I need you to be? But this is how the engine sits now (he put the rocker cover back on) : So semi good progress, only being held up by time and money, as always. Lemme' know what ya think.
  23. Discuss here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=29239 Wellllllllll, I bought another one. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =400101753 (Don't know how long that link will stay valid). Dereg, boring. Does great gravel O's however. KE70 slant front 4 door wagon. Standard 4k and K50. Already sold them to a mate (This guy: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=28915) so I have a nice clean engine bay. Well, empty engine bay. Plan is to make a cheapish drift hack, that I can practice drifting in as well as practice and improve my panelbeating/welding/engine building skills on. I know posts without pics suck. But I don't have any at this stage. I'm sure you all know what a KE70 wags looks like by this stage. Plans: Engine: -3SGE Dual VVT-i out of a Toyota Altezza. Rebuilt with a genuine Toyota gasket and seal kit. -Gilmore kit. -ITBs with trumpets and sock filters. -Link or other standalone ECU. Interior: -Strip out most of the interior, sound deadening, bla bla bla. -Fixed back bucket seats. 5 point harness. -Roll cage. -Steering wheel and gear knob of some description, probably generic deep dish suede wheel with carbon g/knob. -Fuel cell and battery in boot. Body: -Get rid of rust, of which there is bound to be plenty to discover. -Satin black doors, bonnet, rear hatch. -Gloss black rest of body. -3M carbon fibre vinyl graphics. -'Adjust' firewall and G/box tunnel to suit engine and g/box. Suspension: -Adjustable front and rear. Haven't fully figured out/decided what I'm going to do here. Ideas/suggestions? Driveline: -Altezza 6 speed box -Custom driveshaft. -As with suspension, not exactly sure what to do with diff. I would like to avoid shortening as this is meant to be a relatively cheap build. Once again, ideas/suggestions? Wheels: -Unsure. Something suitable for the period of the car/winning. 13, 14 or 15 inch, around 8-9 inches wide. Let me know your thoughts in the discussion post. I'm gonna be poor for a while.
