  1. So now the fronts down it handles less like a boat, the steering actually feels like its turning the wheels. I was so close to flipping the rear leaves today. I want the back low...... and im not going to make the show and shine this weekend at repco in mot
  2. are you sure you'll get 235s under the rear guards? I had 195-60-14s on mine and you couldn't even fit your fingers between the guard & the tyre. Then I ran 195-55-15s (although they were on 9" wide rims haha) for about 2 days, I rolled the lips up on the guards & there was about 1-2mm clearance then under heavy acceleration / load they would rub on the Actual guard tubs. That got old very fast. Went back to the 14s.
  3. I found that my one didn't really wear the tyres that badly. My solution was fit air shocks. On long trips i.e Nelson to Chch I'd pump them up a bit so the camber & toe wasn't so bad. But if I was just cruising around town Id have them let down... for max lowness. You could possibly make some shims up were the rear hubs bolt on?? Might just be easier to fit cheap tyres.
  4. Seeing as my wide steels are now ready & there is a show and shine on this weekend I decided to get the Hunter some lowness. So struts came out: Leading to this: replacement struts with bunnings XU-1 Lowering spring: slapped them in. Now it looks mega high in the back: Looks tougher from the front, Just needs the new wheels: So now its just a waiting game. Waiting for the 3" blocks from Mr.i500gt & waiting until I can use the tyre machine at the local garage.
  5. I had a auto 120Y Sedan back in the day.... from what I recall it was unbelievably sluggish at low rpm. It struggled to get off the rolling road at the wof place. And steep-ish hills were always foot flat in "L" A manual conversion soon fixed that problem.
  6. I still like them. But I'm known for liking rubbish cars.
  7. I like the idea of a sierra sapphire DOHC motor. cheap, strong & plenty of grunt.
  8. Well hopefully Karl finds those blocks! I've got a spare set of struts with chopped.... I mean custom springs. I just cant wait to paint them cream & put the hubcaps on
  9. Picked up one of the wide steels today. gave it a dummy fit. Perfect fitment. Now Just to get the other 3. Project Discuss: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=34606
  10. Im a great fan of the K series and Its bigger brother the T series. as found in the 220 Tomcat. But I'm British & sick in the head. A big part of the head gasket problem is caused by lack of servicing & people not keeping an eye on the temp gauge. The VVC K series found in the MGF is the one to get. There was a chap in Chch that put one in a little rover 114GTi. That thing hauled.
  11. I like this. Also what about a F20C from a honda S2000. and slap a turbo on the side of it. + they have a 9500rpm redline from factory & something like 246bhp. Imagine that noise coming from the old viva! EDIT: Like this
  12. When I did a manual conversion on an Mk1 escort I had to make a "custom" mount. As the mounting points on the automatic body were way to far back.
  13. I tried to put up with it but the vibration is so fucking annoying. Ill give these speed buggers a go on Monday. If they are a no go I'll have a go at filling the mounts. What can go wrong
  14. So the engine mounts are buggered.... Interesting/stupid set up on these. Engine is suspended on hydraulic spindle style mounts. And do you think I can find new ones? No way, no aftermarket option available what so ever. Volvo can get me some from Sweden at a tiny $375+gst each. with a 6 week wait. So I've been researching my options. here's the mounts: I read through the Kelpro mount book at work and there's nothing that looks like its going to work. Apart from 1x Peugeot mount, but at $660 a pop I may as well get the Volvo genuine ones. In the UK a few people have used a product called Sikaflex 291. Drilled holes in the old mounts to drain the fluid out, then re filling with the Sikaflex with good results. So I may give this a go. heres a pic:
  15. I started giving the engine bay a spruce up too. Discuss: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=34606
  16. Yees was quite keen on some 14" VW jetta/golf steels like this
  17. Holy shit those are some epic rims, the're like the slicer you get on the side of cheese graters lol.
  18. Yes I was looking at the rear, Its an interesting set up. I haven't even looked at the front yet.
  19. Whats more sensible than a Volvo? Beige trousers maybe... I now have both. I was given this Volvo from a Neighbor. Its got a broken engine mount and he couldn't find one to replace it. So he bought a new car. Its got over $12k worth of receipts & fully serviced by the local continental workshop. Its pretty sweet, has a 2.0L Sohc injected motor, its manual & it goes like a raped ape. So I've got a mount coming from the UK. Seeing as it was free Im quite happy to spend some coin on rims & low etc. on with the pics: 100% stock, I do like the boot spoiler & chin spoiler Heres the inspiration then I got silly & tried to put some 17x7 chromes on it....YUCK What it needs is more dish. I need some 4x100 to 4x114 hub adapters so I can put my steels on it. Im liking this idea so far.
  20. Just a quick update. the wof & reg have run out so its time for a refresh. Ive found rust starting in a few places *bottom of the door shuts *under the left front guard *under the wiper valence. Also there is play in both the rack ends, the suspension needs some love & the turbo conversion. here's how she sits currently:
  21. Ok so I've had drama after drama with this thing. Even after replacing the radiator & thermostat it was still getting hot. So I removed the new dayco thermostat, boiled the jug & threw it in. It didn't open. Grabbed the old stat out of the shed, threw it in & it opened as it should do. Banged that back in & I was away. Then was driving home from town & it started popping and farting. Got to the point were it was undriveable. replaced the points, condenser & rotor arm. Good as gold again.... Now just to tackle all of the oil leaks..... I love old cars. Just driving the shit out of it at the moment. Still waiting for my wide steels.
  22. I Just used to pump my ones up until the car stopped rising. Never gave trouble. they don't need to have any air in them unless your towing etc.
