  1. Fuel line test today and, no leaks in the tunnel (thank fark ) but the one fitting I always knew was a bit dodgey, leaked like a sieve... Bonus is had a good time huffing gas fumes all arvo, sweet deal.
  2. Shes a goer, line lok working now too. http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b573/55slug/th_IMG_0780_zps1hvx4l6w.mp4 Doing the extinguisher shuffle Fuel pump controller - so its not running full noise unless it needs to Pretty much have all the bits I think. Still a bit to do, big push on this month...
  3. Yeah Mate, its a Taipan... I had been looking for a beach buggy, but they are stupid expensive, this thing is insanely good condition/road legal for the money, and its all been done well. Was re registered after being certed as a scratchbuilt in 2013.
  4. Because I am marginally retarded, I bought another car I cant fit in Its all road legal/certified/homologated/running - bought it as a project for the kids (14 and 17) and because the 80s bring back awesome memories for me (apart from the hairdressers I went out with). Long term plan 1. Wrap it in a 60s can am style 2. See if I can fit by doing extra yoga, and moving seat/installing beer crate 3. Gearbox, beef up a bit/LSD (skid value) 4. Engine - 1915ccs, twin IDA's (can am style trumpets through the deck), Hi lift and duration cam (FK89), and about 12:1 compression. 5. Do skids.
  5. Soooo, have actually been doing some work on it, wiring with the help of Stu, made my life a million times easier, nearly sorted the power feed side of it (front seats forward bit And I am never allowed to go to the speedshow again because this happened And clutch finally got here, twin plate small diameter set up, so now Ill tear the engine down, get the crank reebalanced with this, check all the oil clearances cause I didnt build it initially, and respring the heads, cause they are over americanised (triple springs) Season is creeping up on me again, but Im feeling motivated to make it this year...
  6. Pics from above... Because progress is sllooowwww.... Vacuum lines done, wiring from front to dash etc... Tin finished. Still a longish list but its closing in !!
  7. Car is now at work which is a good/bad thing - less work more car... Tin is pretty much there barring holes in the firewall for wires and such things... Still a bit of a list but not far off
  8. Ive used tech edge ones for years - economy model here - http://wbo2.com/2j/default.htm - They are really accurate and reliable in my experience.
  9. Got one line nearly off the A4, mounted filter, got speed sensor mounted, and finalised all oil water and fuel hoses, barring three. and also worked on hydration centre, note the beer shifter Bought an enclosed trailer a while ago, did a bit of wiring on it today. Its getting wrapped in a couple of weeks. Im actively involved in hydration after a full Saturday.
  10. Ill try and get there, will keep working at it.... The issue is time, and its a money pit from hell, and my kids still want food...
  11. Just ordered a whole lot of milspec wire - to wire it. Also have LVVTA inspection on 14th December, just to see how feasible legal road use is. Need to ring NZDRA inspectors. Also have a list that now fits on 1 A4 sheet... First T and T at meremere is this weekend. Apparently car is not ready.
  12. Painting going on and sissy sticks coated.
  13. Getting down to it. Coated stuff back from HPC, shroud nearly there, and I've been painting seat/rollbar interior stuff.
  14. Might be able to coat it if it will take 150 c... i hate doing shit twice !
  15. Yeah the slicked wheels are billet specs, front runner wheels are weld wheels. Didnt really think about the heat, with the fan running it will be sweet but once it stops theres a lot of heat soak in the heads that will radiate, head temps on the old car ran to around 190 c. But with E85 hopefully its a bit cooler. Resin used is good for 100 c before it melts. I was thinking maybe I could get the inside of the shroud coated with something to help with heat. As far as coating it goes, in the light of day it looks raw, the flash bought out the pretty bits...
  16. Shroud is getting close - Any suggestions on a clear coat that wont melt ? The guy who has done the cf work is a boat builder, so not quite sure what to coat it with. Anyway its looking pretty schmicky, just bonding the mount and a bit of tickling up this week and we should be done...
  17. Dunno, youll have to read through.... http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,17263.0.html Guy is talented/crazy/workaholic....
  18. Small amount of suspension re engineering
  19. Thats why chev patterned hubs are a winner !! John is doing this http://www.vask.org.nz/index.php/topic,27167.0.html so yeah definitely still in it.
  20. You can narrow the rear arms like this.. https://www.airkewld.com/kb_results.asp?ID=15 ... should give you your clearance back. Im pretty sure that John Kanter out in Hendo has a jig to do this, and he is a very talented metal worker...
  21. late but yeah that rear end is out of a variant/type 3 - they are a bolt in piece on those. 2" beams are good but may need a bit of inner guard clearance at lock and the shock mounts. On the steering geometry, the rhs tie rod starts getting a bit angly and short, i have flipped them to the underside of the knuckle before with a bit of a rebush.
  22. Finished off dash mount and wiring and scatter shield. Dash will mount on roll bar above windscreen.
  23. http://www.silvesterv8.co.nz/products.php?product=Holley-1%252d4psi-Regulator http://www.silvesterv8.co.nz/products.php?product=Holley-0%252d15psi-Liquid-Filled-Fuel-Pressure with the holley type regs you can put a block on one side of the outlet that is tapped for 1/8" npt that these gauges thread straight into.
  24. Low pressure is the answer, get a decent reg too, if its mounted under the bonnet as it heats up it will creep upwards. I ran downdraft dells at 2.5 psi max. https://www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/fuel_pumps_regulators_and_filters/regulators/carbureted_regulators/parts/12-804 That kind of thing will do it. A return line reg is even better so you dont dead head the fuel and heat it up. Mallory make these although not cheap.
