  1. Back story on the last update... I drove her from Paraparaumu to Porirua (about 25-30km) when I picked it up, about 6km from home there was a slight misfire and rough running but I got home. Got up in the morning to drive to work and fuck me she was an angry bitch. Running on 4cyls etc. Got to work and found the carby was pissing out fuel and the plugs were fucked. Replaced those on Wednesday hoping that would help but alas she still had a miss. Compression check showed zero compression in 4 and 5. Shit happens I guess. The young bloke I traded cars with is my workmate, the car was his Dads and has done fuck all k's in the last 18months due to being parked up and unused. The young fella had no idea that she was on her way out. Anyway. Pulled the head off on Thursday night and discovered blown head gasket between 4 & 5 cylinders Had already ordered gaskets from BNT so they arrived on Friday all ready to spend my evening and Saturday installing. Friday night was spent cleaning everything up ready to install but in my drunken state at around midnight (after being sick and vomiting all day at work) I decided it would be a great idea to chuck the head on and torque it down. So 7:30 this morning I got stuck into chucking it all back together and all went well...... Until coolant was added to the mix. In my boozed, hazy state I damaged the rear of the head gasket causing major coolant leak. Fucken amateur move! So I pulled it all back apart again. Got another gasket from Repco, carefully chucked the head on (while sober) torqued it all down and threw the rest back together. Yay no more leak! So she is running again, unfortunately there is still a running issue. I am hoping tuning the carb and setting the timing will rectify that. Will do compression test in the morning and go from there. On a positive note, I got lowering springs this evening and here are a few shitty pics of the old slag
  2. I had a bad experience with an old holden when I was 16. I owned it for 48hrs before it ran a bearing etc. Haven't owned one since. Well 17 years on and the holden fairies have gifted me another one with issues..... no compression in cyls 4 & 5. Have sorted out another engine and will be doing the swap this weekend. Yay for Holden life!
  3. Shit talking goes here. Build is here...https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/57726-666dan-the-ford-man-got-an-old-holden/&tab=comments#comment-1925373
  4. As title says I went and gots me a Holden Shes a 79 HZ Wagon. Shes a darling under the rough exterior, honest. Let the adventure begin Shit talking here...https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/57727-666dan-the-ford-man-got-an-old-holden-banter/
  5. So one thing has led to another and this is now gone to a new home along with my EL V8 Fairmont to make way for a HZ Kingswood wagon. Farewell ladies
  6. So its Labour day and I have a low R31. 1.5 coils removed from front and adjustables in the rear. Still rides decent enough too.
  7. Spent Friday evening lowering the rear with R33 skyline front struts using the R31 tophats, the result was disappointing as it only came down about an inch. As it turns out you need lowering springs or an angle grinder to get the desired result, need to pull it apart again anyway cos the LHS shock is buggered. Chucked a new knob on and changed the steering wheel to a larger diameter OMP one Then today I did some maintenance, adjusted drive belts etc. Pulled the IAC valve off to give it a clean and found a perished coolant hose with a nicely hidden pin prick hole leaking coolant, quick trip to Repco cos I had nothing at home that would work and she was good to go again. So over Labour weekend I will rip the front struts out and replace the springs/massage them with the angle grinder, The rear suspension will come out again to lose a couple of coils and hopefully I will have found a replacement shock by then too.
  8. We were bloody lucky to get out of otaki when we did! Much longer and we would have been stuck in traffic diversions
  9. Yeah it was 50/50 but decided to put it here cos I don't mind spam/shit talking in the build thread
  10. 3 weeks or so ago my workmate purchased this Skyline from a bloke we both know. It had been sitting on the lawn unloved for over a year, parked due to power steering not working and the mindset of it will take too much to get legal. Its a 1990 R31 GXE rocking a slush box and a RB30E. Done 208000kms (although the odo has just stopped) is relatively tidy with a couple bumps here and there as you expect. Interior is super clean, nearly everything works too. So my workmate rocks up with fresh fuel and battery, gets her running, unseized the brakes and drives it home. He already has a gnarly RB30DET Cefiro and only bought the R31 for the bottom end as a back up. He drove it for a few days and decided it was too good to wreck. Chucked it through a VTNZ WOF and got a short list. The P/S pump not working Corrosion on P/S pipe on the rack (had a hole) Rear brake pipe corrosion Horn to work All easy shit but with no room for the car in his driveway, a mental Cefiro that takes all his money and 2 other cars he decided to sell it on.... A deal was done and I bought her for $600 and I picked her up Tues evening. Got the horn working as soon as I got home and drove her to work the next morning. Weds after work we made up a new pipe for the rack (cheers @Seedy Al and the boys at city center for the pipe), bled the p/s system and cleaned up the rear brake lines. Thursday morning it had fresh wof and rego Fuck yeah legal! She had a horrible fart cannon shoved on the rear of the exhaust, it sounded terrible, droned like fuck and was generally shit. Dealt with that today at work, cut off shitty fart cannon and welded in a nice round barrel muffler and now cruising is so much nicer on the ears. Airfilter was absolutely buggered and because I hoard crap I had a sik poddy kicking around. With all the bits of pipe, adapters etc I managed to throw the pod filter on for max doooorts. The plan is to lower her on standard suspension from other Nissans so I get low but still have the lounge suite feel. Different wheels and just go with the flow from there.
  11. Yay 2.0 and 5 speed arrived yesterday added bonus modified sump for escort came with the deal. So the puzzle is coming together, few more parts to gather before the conversion takes place though
  12. So today I had a pleasant surprise turn up at work. A deal was struck a few months back for a 5 speed box, I had actually forgotten about it but today it turned up. My intention was to put it behind the 1600 kent and I probably will while I build up the parts to do the pinto conversion. So with that in mind I have started making lists of shit that I need and what will cater to both conversions. Sadly the box came with no bell housing If anyone in the OS community can hook a brother up with info, parts or just general know how it would be lovingly welcomed. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/50660-666dans-1980-mk2-escort-discussion/ Some more good news is the pinto and box are being picked up this weekend
  13. First thing on Monday I took the Hustlers to work as well as my other wheels to get the tyres fitted. I am stoked with the outcome. No tyre rub, car drives better and IMO looks better. I will leave that whole stance thing to someone else... I have also acquired 2.0L Pinto and 5 speed and now own the Hustlers. Fitted a new/secondhand L/F hub today. Mine was worn out to all fuck, dot punched the hell out of it and lock tighted when I replaced the wheels bearing but the race still spun Results were as expected when you change a fucked part for a good part. Stopped in and saw my workmate that was tinkering with his Kingswood wag and went for a small cruise around the mean streets of Whitby
  14. As much as I love my wheels tyre rub is an issue since lowering. I am running 175/50's but rubbing with any weight in the boot or back seat. I took a chance last Sunday evening and pilled the kids in the back to go for a short drive, turned out it was a real short drive. Sidewall wore right through within 4km then the tyre popped. Long story short I want to get some new wheels that suit my lifestyle better, 13x7.5 -19 offset is just to aggresive and tyre options are a bitch. I am probably going to get some new repro Hotwires in 13x7 +3 offset. Until then I have borrowed some old 13x6Cheviot Hustlers. They have seen some life and been on many a car and stored for years so are a bit rough. Spent a few hours today cleaning them up, pretty pleased with how they have turned out. Will put my tyres on them tomorrow, buy some new shank wheel nuts and then do some driving.
  15. Awesome work! Loving what you have achieved so far, Rad seeing another Mk2 getting love
  16. Just a small update We have Low thanks to 2" lowering springs up front and 2"blocks in the rear.
  17. Cool to see ya back into it after the trip dude!
  18. Nah it was just gearbox failure that led to universal failure. Looks like a bearing let go and smashed teeth and shit decided to exit out the sides.
  19. Been a while. I have mounted the rev counter in the dash, installed headunit, speakers and some doof doof. Yay purple wheel nuts Attended Hardpark and enjoyed myself more than I expected I would Also hit the Ford day in Kapiti, the weather was real bad and it actually got called off but it was fun while it lasted. Driving home my wipers got slower and my lights got dim....the alternator died Thankfully (in a weird way) I still run points and EVLSKE made it home Replaced the alternator and we were back up running again annnnd we attended the British car day So all was going well but ya know how it is with old british cars....the headlight switch burnt out on the way home from the inlaws farm in Levin, no problem the lights stayed on so we got home. Unplugged the switch and all good. The next morning was the day of the Shannon auto spectacular, we drove to the inlaws and my lady and 2 of the girls stayed there. My eldest daughter and myself carried on through to Shannon. We stayed for a couple hours and then we headed back to the inlaws. The back road between Shannon and Levin was nice and quiet so I put my foot down to stretch the legs on the Escort. The gearbox had other ideas. There was a major internal malfunction and the internals exited through the gearbox housing and left a trail of destruction in its wake. So this is the view from under the car I picked these up off the road It came out in 2 pieces 2 weeks later and we are running again! Scored a Gearbox for a good price, new driveshaft universal, some fluid and its all good (Y)
  20. Driving the wheels off the little Escort at the mo and really enjoying just cruising! Been a good couple months for EVLSKE, has had its pic printed in the Petrolhead mag a couple times within 3 months I also lowered the front slightly via makita one coil removal and it has evened up the ride height somewhat. The exhaust scrapes going in and out my driveway now. Chucked a nice sedate stainless tip on the exhaust too Attended the Dec Petrolhead Breakfast with Mr Bwarp and Charlie earlier this month and probably the most exciting part of recent times is being given louvers for the Escort! Now both my Fords have them Looking forward to summer cruising and hitting some of the events happening around the show!
