  1. You may have noticed a lot of talk about a fire in the previous post... Was just driving along lincoln road in henderson the other day and ALOT of black smoke was coming from the bonnet, pulled over and popped it to find a raging inferno going on. Ended up putting it out with a bucket of water from a flower shop, fire department showed up and everything.. they blocked off the road for me and pushed me into a carpark All I had to do was go across to supercheap and bought new fuel line and hose clips and away I went. The damage was pretty minimal - hood lining is slightly singed, air filter housing melted in the corner, air filter burnt, oil pressure and water temp wires burnt out, and some hoses to the carby melted. I've replaced all the damaged parts now except the air filter and housing, I'm just going to wait to get a ramflow one for that I'm wanting to get one of these spotlight grills http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Ford/Accessories/auction-375846548.htm And looking for a exterior sun visor anyway here some random pics so its not boring
  2. Did a quick service on the wag today, oil change, timing all that good stuff all seems well, not sure if the spark plugs in there are correct though, need to check if the numbers cross reference to the old plug numbers Had to replace a few hoses that go to the carb, fuel lines too, and some wires that got burnt out/melted in the fire Heres my current list of things to do/want to do -Whitewalls -Ramflo airfilter or just a new air filter (current one got melted a fair amount from the fire) -5 speed conversion -extractors took afew pics over the weekend and last few days
  3. painted up the wheels last friday, was thinking matt black with the chrome ring and the skinny whitewalls quite photoshop of the idea And heres what there like now, suits the car quite well I think
  4. Done a few little things the next day, changed over to my head deck and wired in speakers to the boot and I've had a roll of heat wrap laying around for ages so I chucked it on, it was pretty hard to do so it looks average, but better than nothing ]
  5. As you may know, I've recently purchased fuels cortina wag not much need for a project thread other than to show it off really A few things planned but nothing too drastic, really wanting to just cruise in it Headed down in the ol' laser for its last trip, it JUST made it down there, overheating outside scrap palace.. A shot of the two cars together when we got lost looking for the scrap yard first fill up
  6. compress rear springs 2" and had some dobi lowering springs in the front i could try find out what part number they were
  7. there was a black earth wire coming from my headlights but it was attached loosely and painted over so i just sanded it and attached it securely to a good earth and it fixed my high beams
  8. this was happening to me also, i just cleaned up the earth wire at the headlights and it all worked
  9. quoted from vauxhall viva forums
  10. for straight bolt in, you could get the 1800/2300 diff
  11. I have purchased some live plates for the viva http://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=hr1604 with 9 months exemption
  12. I think it was 2" compressed for barina springs 3" makes the back way to low and its like driving with no suspension at all
  13. You own one! I've never heard of anyone who's driven a factory 1256 who thought it actually had more than about 40 hp. Maybe yours had a hidden supercharger? yeah its my first car so i dont have anything else to compare it too
  14. haha oh well i thought they had like 78hp or something, you could put a slant 4 engine in? 1800/2300
  15. there was a done up 1256 on trademe a few weeks ago with absolutely everything possible done to it for like $1600 and he reckons it only produces 90hp... thats not much more than standard so i don't think you can do much to them
  16. it rolls! for the first time in months got my engine, its a 1800 slant 4 got my w50 5 speed box with a modified vauxhall bellhousing and toyota yoke also had the internals rebuilt and i also had to shorten my diff radius arms by 27mm to fit the bigger diff
  17. Where is a good place in Auckland, preferably west Auckland to get a toyota yoke put into my vauxhall drive shaft?
  18. Any viva nuts out there no the difference in lengths between early 1256 rear axel upper radius arms and the 1800,2300 ones???
  19. the rust has been fixed and most of the dents taken care of so I've finally painted it also my friend had this stencil for the side
  20. my plates have been de-registered for ages as well so if anyone is aware of live viva plates ill be interested. They don't have to be from a 1800 viva its not like the wof guy is gonna know anything about the engine anyway
  21. engine update: The dohc vauxhall 1800 is gonna take a while longer to get than expected so I've got this lined up while I wait, its nothing special just had new gaskets, oil and water pumps and ignition to keep it going, I think he said the heads been rebuilt also. and a video of it on its first fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXMB0jPIxJc its costing me $600 mainly getting it because it comes with a freshly rebuilt w50 toyota 5 speed with modified vauxhall bellhousing, crossmember, driveshaft with toyota yoke and a pedalbox and cable pretty much everything i need to convert to 5 speed
  22. magnum suspension restoration is underway I've stripped it all down and painted the main components I'm just painting it with left over paint I've got so it looks like its gonna be black and blue and anything not shown in the photos will be white diff will be black. I have got most new nolathane bushes for it still looking for sway bar ones though, new ball joints upper and lower, new wheel bearings front and back new brake pads for the front and cant find shoes for the rear so i might look into getting the old ones re bonded. I'm on the look out for front and rear shocks and springs Does anyone know a good place to get nuts and bolts and washes etc gold passivated, I rung a place called acme platers in onehunga and they said it would be about $30 for an ice cream container full of stuff as long as they dont need to hang it
