  1. Markku, I didn't see your name/number on the Pro7 or MX5 drivers list the other day, but I think you Dad's name was on there?
  2. Good idea. Or maybe 43, like Moffat's RX-7? Plain old '7' is growing on me:
  3. Yep, although I've had it back for a while now. Obviously not following my blog then, huh.
  4. Why do you like 27? 44 is my girlfriends favourite number and it's freaky how often we come across is (room number at hotel a few weeks ago, parking space the other day, etc), but it's taken by another Pro7 member already. I like 77, but that's taken too. Surprisingly, I think 7 is still available. I don't mind 81, as that's the year I was born, and I remember my favourite super saloon driver at speedway was number 81 when I was a kid. My car is a '92, but that doesn't really do much for me. I guess I want something a bit unusual, in the hope that I can use the same number for a few other events that I'll be running in. No doubt there will be number clashes from time to time, but there are a few common numbers that can be avoided. I wonder if I could have 00? That would be different. Any double number combo is quite catchy, I think.
  5. I'm deciding on my official race number at the moment, and it's proving to be a bit tricky. My initial thought was '55', which I've used before. I like the idea of having a bit of meaning behind my choice of race number, and 55 comes from the LeMans winning 787B: The number 55 seems to be super popular though, as I seem to see it on a car in pretty much every race class or series. Anyone got any other ideas?
  6. Hey Markku, I've just created a short blog post about the MX5 Racing NZ and Mazda Pro7 Racing classes running together for the 2012/2013 season: http://www.kiwimotoring.com/blog/post/racing-news-mx5-racing-nz-joins-mazda-pro7-racing Can you have a quick look to make sure I've got all my facts straight?
  7. Yeah, I reckon they're pretty good for room, considering the size of the car. There's more room for the driver in my MX5 than there is in my RX-7 (and that was before the roll cage went in ). Are all the cars running LSDs? What's the story with swapping out the viscous rear end for the later model torsen?
  8. So cool to have you guys running with us in the Mazda Pro7 Racing series. I thought you might have come up to Havelock North for the AGM, but did you have some racing on during the weekend? Bummer about Hampton Downs (my favourite track) being excluded though, huh.
  9. /\/\/\ Yeah, tell me about it. Some roll cage pics from the latest blog post: Woot! http://www.kiwimotoring.com/blog/post/car-build-pro7-mazda-rx-7-the-roll-cage-homologation
  10. Ok, time for a well-overdue update. My blog posts on KiwiMotoring are still quite a few weeks behind from where I'm at with the car currently, but here's a couple of boring pics for you. Roll cage kit purchased from Racecraft Engineering in Christchurch: The car when I finally got it back from Palmerston North Automotive: The detailed descriptions to accompany the pics can be found here: http://www.kiwimotoring.com/blog/tags/pro7-mazda-rx7 I'll have a new blog post up in a couple of days.
  11. /\/\/\ Sounds like an awesome price, but at this stage it doesn't look like I need to replace the bushes, so I'll pass for now (thanks though).
  12. Bummer about finding more rust aye. I broke the windscreen in mine when I tried to take it out which really fucked me off at the time, but I was glad that I used a brand new replacement one in the end. Was pretty well priced if I recall. Can't help you with the bumper end caps or front bumper strip sorry, as I've only got the ones on my car. The bumper end caps are pretty hard to come by, especially in decent condition. I wouldn't mind getting some carbon fibre ones made up when I get back to working on my Series 1 (then you can have my ones).
  13. How are you getting on with your project? Need any parts?
  14. Just had a quick look at your project thread for the first time in a few weeks. You've been busy! Well done for getting it to this stage.
  15. Hey Markku, I've used that photo of your dad's (above) and created a blog post directing people to the new MX5 Racing NZ Facebook page: http://www.kiwimotoring.com/blog/post/photo-mx5-racing-nz-at-taupo Let me know if that's not ok by you or your dad. I'll do the same with your video too if you like?
  16. Pretty sure the MXR isn't an exact replica of anything, which is good. They're a nice looking wheel, and I think they'd look quite good on an RX-7. I guess the best way to find out is buying trying them on, as you may find out. The factory BBS mesh style wheels look good on a Series 8, that's for sure.
  17. No further mods to suspension I take it? You have Megan coilovers, but were thinking about Stance if I recall correctly? I guess you won't bother changing it now if you're trying to sell it? Should probably stop writing all my sentences as questions?
  18. Ah yep, that makes sense. Is the cage in the silver one identical to yours? I don't know if it's just the angle of your photo above, but it looks like your main hoop is lower? Have you got final car specs available for the series? Wouldn't mind having a look.
  19. Was there any particular reason why you were racing with the hardtop on, while the other two were running without them?
  20. Did you see what Warren Overton wrote on the Mazda Pro7 Racing Facebook page?
  21. Damn, sounds like I missed out on a good night!
  22. I went down to Palmy/Manfield this past weekend for IRC Round 6, and had a chance to look at my car too. The plan was to pick it up while I was down there and bring it back to Hamilton, but unfortunately that didn't work out, as the tow vehicle I had lined up fell through. Kayte wasn't keen on using her Camry wagon, which is fair enough as it really would have struggled with the 4.5hr+ journey, so I will most likely arrange to have a car transporter bring it up instead. We've been looking for a tow vehicle/promo van/campervan for the last few weeks, and it would have been ideal if we had one already. I had my eye on this Hiace Super Custom, but we were outbid tonight when the auction closed: By the time we added WOF/rego (which both expire in March) plus a towbar, it would have been a fairly expensive vehicle. Nevermind - we'll find something soon.
  23. No worries - I could see that you were flat out a lot of the time. That scooter of yours certainly helps to get around the place quickly, huh. Another toy that I wouldn't mind getting for myself. I had planned on wandering over to your caravan on Saturday evening after the Pro7 bbq. Kayte booked a motel back Palmy and was relaxing there by herself, and was going to come back and pick me up whenever it suited me. However, a couple of the Pro7 guys offered to drop me off as it was on their way, so we ended up taking off pretty quickly (and much earlier that I has expected).
  24. Not the best photo, but a great moment captured as Markku crosses the line within inches of a Pro7 car:
