  1. Playing around on the skidpan after the motorkhana:
  2. Wow, that's a decent amount of rust, but it looks like you're doing a good job of restoring the car. Bummer about that bonnet being full of bog huh. Nice job on the cam cover.
  3. Other than the tyres (and the chance of crashing), is it rough on the car? Hmm, I really shouldn't, unless I get myself a drift hack.
  4. Here's a little write up I did on my blog: http://www.kiwimotoring.com/blog/post/event-fiat-club-waikato-tarmac-series-motorkhana Kayte took a couple of videos of us playing around on the skidpan after the motorkhana, so I'll see if I can put something together to upload too.
  5. Whew, car trailer sorted at the last minute. Hopefully this is the last time I have to borrow one before I get my own. I did a bunch of tyre/wheel swapping yesterday. Oh man, my old tyres were absolutely buggered - no wonder I was struggling for grip at the last few rounds. 6 weekend rounds of racing plus 3 or 4 practice days is a lot of work for one set of tyres. I think I'll use 1.5-2 sets of tyres for this coming season. Just gotta load up on fuel and oil and I'm ready!
  6. Campbell said he'd prefer payment via online banking before the event, but will accept cash on the day. Why don't you fill out the Word doc and email it to him?
  7. Competing or spectating? Other than the potentially average weather forecast for Sunday, it should be an interesting day at Hampton Downs. There's an open track day on the circuit at the same time as the motorkhana, and hopefully a few rotary owners from Oldschool will be there too. I paid for the full series yesterday to make sure there are no easy excuses for missing rounds.
  8. I can bring it up from Hamilton in the van if your friend can't.
  9. Cool bike, and definitely worthy of an oldschool thread. I'd go there.
  10. I'd say the motorkhana is pretty casual as far as vehicle spec goes. I did one of the Fiat Club Waikato motorkhanas in my MX5 a couple of years ago, and that's just a shitty road registered car with no cage or anything. Pretty sure I did it with the hard top off and no helmet too.
  11. I'm bringing old smokey before I take the engine out for a rebuilt. Are you allowed to use different cars for different events?
  12. I just signed up for all 5 rounds. Shiitt, the motorkhana is next weekend! Need to sort out tyres and a trailer asap.
  13. Cool, I made it into the paper. This must have been a warm up lap, judging by the order of the cars.
  14. I'm not sure if I'm still sitting on the fence, so I guess that means I still am. I think the first round of the new season is on Labour weekend again (26th/27th Oct), so it's time to start doing something about it if I want to do all rounds. Driving it last week was quite motivating.
  15. Ha, I only just clicked on this thread as I thought the thread title was referring to some sort of rusty POS car. Nice work on the renovation so far.
  16. I haven't seen it in person, but it looks pretty tidy in the photos. Brand new paint job too. If I was getting involved in Pro7 racing, I'd probably just buy that car rather than building one, as you couldn't build something like that for the asking price of $11,000. The engine has Series 5 rotors which are technically illegal for the Pro7 class, but it was built before the rules changed so it's allowed to run until the engine needs a rebuild. Strange that the listing doesn't mention anything about Pro7. I'd almost be tempted in buying it just for the parts if I was allowed to swap the motor into my car.
  17. Someone should buy one of these cars and come racing with me: /\/\/\ Better pics would probably help to sell that one. Bargain:
  18. Yes, it was weighed with corner weights. I can't remember the figures off the top of my head, but from memory it was pretty well balanced. Not an even 25% at each corner, but a good cross weight that made the car nicely balanced overall. Dean McMillan (Pro7 champ for the last 2 years) took my car for a laps at Manfeild with me in the passenger seat, and he was quite impressed with the way the car felt. He said the only thing it lacked was power and straight line speed. I'll have a look through my notes to see if I wrote down the corner weights so you ladies can relax a bit.
  19. That includes my weight too though, so minus 87kg = 1063kg for the car. One time I weighed the car at Manfeild after a few test laps and it was 1132kg from memory. I then ran out of fuel as I was pulling into my pit area, so that gave me a good idea of what the car weighs with an empty tank. There are a few things I could do to drop the weight further if necessary - lose the extra seat, trim the door inners a bit, replace the windows with polycarbonate/lexan, and swap the heavy steel hatch for a fibreglass one.
  20. Nah, once the additional wiring is in, it'll stay in. My car is already pretty light as it is. I have to make sure I keep a bit of extra fuel in the car as it is, otherwise I drop below the minimum weight limit of 1150kg.
  21. Additional wiring for lights, indicators, etc, a set of road wheels and tyres, motorsport authority card ($66), then just your usual WOF/rego after that I think. I'd probably do it while the engine was out between seasons anyway. Better get onto it soon if I want it running again for Round 1 later in the year.
  22. Maybe $300-$400 for the bars and labour (just guessing). A couple of hundred dollars to have it professionally painted again. $82 to do the homologation again. So maybe $600 or so?
  23. It would be easy if I had been aware of this before my rollcage was built: (d) Removal of a Manufacturer Occupant Protection System (MOPS): from a vehicle (primarily used for motor sport competitions) may be authorised under the Authority Card system. The vehicle shall be fitted with and comply with the following: (ii) A minimum Safety Cage as per diagrams 8.3(6)(d) below incorporating forward reinforcements (terminating at a substantial structure such as the suspension strut tower) in full compliance with this Schedule. My rollcage doesn't extend to the strut towers.
