  1. you could chuck any straight 6 in you like really, but your more likely to get helpful people who know what they're talking about giving you advice if you "keep it in the family" join toymods, if you haven't already. there is a MS57 with a 2JZ-GE in it and there is some good info about the motor, theres also a guy called gianttomato who is very onto it with crown engine swaps, if you have a look at some of his projects you'll get a good idea of what motors to look out for (by that i mean what car they came out of) to get the right combo of sump, oil filter location, computer plug type and such. manual shouldn't be too much of a problem, it depends how much money you want to throw at it. if its less than 5k then buy a second hand 5M for 200$ and save some cash. my 2c. sheepers.
  2. do you want to go auto or manual? M series engines will bolt in but are just as fucked as the one your taking out, and more than likely have less power too. also, any M series engine you end up with that isn't going to be a complete pile of shit will need wiring and a computer of some sort so why not use a N/A 1J or 2J? they are both fairly easy to find and fairly cheap. the only part you might have a problem with is getting a mid sump one, but there not imposable to find. 1UZ will fit in a 80 series crown but you have to make allot of compromises and it ends up being a bit shit really.... I'm sure Gaz will tell you yo put a pinto in it soon so follow his advice sheepers.
  3. next meat will be on the 17th of feb, yes?? also, would be good to know that KD is all good, he left in a fucking big hurry. and cheers to 10speed for the carpark hookups, it a really good spot. going to wear a hat next time... and no ginga's allowed!! sheepers
  4. good days. def keen for next month. lots of choice dudes and dudesses turned up, except for sentra who is a poopy head.
  5. dude im keen as to go for a curse in the lexus, what time do you reckon youll be there, if at all?
  6. apparently according to a few different people (I'm going to do this and find out for myself) you can put heatshrink over the plug sleeves and shrink it right down. it cant get easier than this. ill let people know if it works but many people have said it works. sheepers.
  7. the lines are too small, your right. you could steel the feed line from the cressy, use the crown feed as you new return, will work fine. but the main problem is the actual outlet that is welded into the tank, its far to small. should be ok with a surge tank. sheepers.
  8. heres what i can remember from when i did this 11 years ago, the 5mge manifold looks the same as the 4m but the flange is a bit further back. you can bolt the stock crown zorst to the 5mge manifold but it will move your whole zorst system back, causing the diff to hit the zorst. fan wont fit in stock crown rad shroud (no biggie really) i can vaguely remember some problems with the outlets on the power steering pump and i had a problem with the alternator. oh, and change your thermostat. they don't like sitting around for some reason and there is nothing worse than doing an M conversion because of a blown headgasket only to watch the temp guage soar as soon as you get it running. oh, one other thing, the stock fuel outlet pipe from the tank is a bit small to feed the injection pump directly, it will work but it would be best to run a (large) surge tank so you don't get any fuel starve issues. cant think of anything else. do you reckon youll be at the meet on sat?? sheepers.
  9. ive never herd any toyota box refered to as a "5m/t" what box do you mean?? W50? or W55/58 style??
  10. i know nothing about rovers but i do know that 5M toyota engines are crap. is there a better engine you can use? or is there some quirk that demands you use a 5M toyota engine?? there aren't many rover people on this forum so it might take a bit of time for someone to give you some advice but please enlighten me as to why 5M? sheepers.
  11. if you put one of hose shit boat anchors in your TA23 i will personally kick you in the nuts. im doing a 1UZ into an RA28, fitting the motor and box is no biggie, there is plenty of wire info around if your prepared to look and im sure spencer could help you. the project thread is in my sig, click it, learn, do it. NO TO SHIT MOTORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sheepers.
  12. the sander was your typical air powered random orbital with adjustable speed (very important), round velcro pad and the 1200 paper i used was 3M hookit or something. standard panel shop kit. sheepers.
  13. so were set on every third tuesday of the month? suits me. see you all on the 20th. sheepers.
  14. i have finally got around to cutting and polishing the paint which has been un touched since it was painted. i used 1200 dry on a palm orbital, followed by 3000 diamond pads that are used wet on the orbital. then a cut with a standard foam pad/polisher and cutting/polishing compound. then finally a wax with mothers something or other step two stuff for the swurls. as per usual the pics dont show how good it looks in real life but these will give you an idea. sheepers.
  15. i have done this very swap,11 years ago, and i cant remember a single wire colour, or anything to look out for. lols me cauz im now an old fart who cant remember what i had for breakfast sheepers.
  16. links to the RR build please???????
  17. drove to Taupo on saturday, raced all day sunday, then drove back, a total round trip of about 750k's. Toyo R888's are my new beast friend, i had the best time and went quicker all day and there is heaps of inprovement i could make to go faster. (all with my driving, car was willing me to go faster) car couldn't have been better, brakes were excellent (i never had the balls to push them further than they would go) and the tyres!! i would marry them if i could, as i say, i drove about 750k's on them, got through a whole tank of gas on the track so plenty of track time was had, and they still look good, they look better than when i bought them! the new rear setup worked so well, could chose between over steer or under steer when i wanted, lost it a couple of times (it rained at one point) and was easily able to get it back on track. realistically this just means i wasn't going fast enough but that will come, im yet to drive the same track twice so plenty of learning to go. some pics, not the best but you get the idea. with some luck my friend has shot some video from his car (followed me for a bit) and it will be on you tube. ill link it if it comes about. i started to get a missfire at full load. fairly common for higher boosted 1JZ's so im going to look at plugs and coils first (they havent been out since i built the car 6 years ago) some vids, no in-car yet but heres hoping, the guy in the yellow starlet had the camera so hopefully some good footage.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IW5SGddaHU sheepers.
  18. i totally had the wrong end of the stick, im k33n as for ellerslie once a month. like the sound of the carpark thingy too, can we take some cool OS photos of heaps of cars there?? ive not had burger fuel in a million, million, million, million years.
  19. "Probably something central like Ellerslie/Botany/Sylvia park" thats not my idea of central dont some cunts live out west? if your gonna go "central " then hit up ponsonby or dom road id be keen but there is no fucking way im going to silvia park, or fucking botany for that matter.
  20. i have the JDM front for mine, it originally had the four round headlights like all the export 50 series. all JDM 50 series crowns had the two rectangular headlights.
  21. shamless vote getting attempt pics. these are the only pics i have with it clean, still not polished yet so the paint is straight off the gun. in other news, the car now has LN130 front calipers, new ball joints and pitman arm and a full black interior. its going really well and never misses a beat. i drive it to work every day. also, i have a set of semi slicks and im going to a track day on sunday at Taupo, track two. very cant wait for that!! will be big fun. sheepers.
  22. i have a few pics of that car, tis mean. never seen the engine bay though. it was pretty much the reason i decided i had to have a 51 at whatever cost. im thinking kind of the same for mine but with a roof chop too, maybe only a little bit, 50mm or so, subtle stile so you have to have a good hard think about it to decide if the roof has been chopped or not. someone with the photochop skilzz could do some chopping for me to see how megga cool it would look/make me do it. lots of love to whoever can do this for me. sheepers.
  23. im pretty sure i have a "Japanese classic car restorer" magazine that has a story about this car. i didn't read the whole thing but the car was imported then the guy died, and his widow didn't know what to do with the car. I'm away all this week but ill have a look next weekend when i get back home, if its the same car your more than welcome to have the magazine. sheepers.
