PBDRC DRAG DATE 15 th January Twilight Friday again - looks like it could be a good night to let loose me beast 5:30 til dark lets do it again when bart gets the text he can post it

I think I found the problem with mine, I am normally able to drop to 1500rpm in top and roll on the throtle and still out accelerate stock cars but I test drove it this morning and had a miss so thought I would check the compression and found number 6 had the porcelain broken on the plug, replaced and now its pulling clean again. Now to set the linkages up, check the rockers and I should be set again to run mid 13's I hope. I think the highlight of the night was the crowds reactions, the next time we do this though I think we need someone to arouse the crowd a bit more.... btw the vidz is coming along but I have been too busy today and am going out for dinner soon so may get a chance tonight otherwise it wil tomorrow now.

I went lousy..... When I pulled the motor apart last month I also had a go at tidying up the linkages and couldn't find the sweet-spot and could only manage low 14's, The old girl just didn't want to pull out of the hole and was sluggish right through the rev range, I am tempted to by a synchrometer unless someone has one I can borrow and actually test the set up. and start from there. I am also going to do something about the linkages as the middle linkage arm is loose which could be all it is. Bart came close to his PB On another note I have 28 minutes of video with about 25 minutes of skidz vidz and the crowd that was watching it I will process this today and post it on youtube today.

That was my initial thought as well but if it flat spots it sounds like fuel.... A dyno would help or a vane

Time to do what I have done, bought me another couple of rims for the drags and got me street tires on my other set. I could get mine handling better with 2 things, sway bars and better back tires. The ones on the rear are not what I would call grippy. Handling can be had without dropping your car on the deck as one of the fastest Torana XU-1s in the world usually gets the comment of "It sits pretty high, why don't you lower it" Check out this vid of it at the skope classic last year against cars that had slicks on and this with street tires (Same ones I have for my drag tires).

Nice meet people, loved the cars and the mix of OS stuff was cool... funniest was the little micro thing that did the lap in carpark then pulled up outside the bottleshop..... the poor seat-cover looked like she was a bit embarrassed lol I enjoyed meeting everyone and drive was the first time I have tested my supra diff head and brakes properly since I put them in.... I was told I left a trail of smoke at one stage as it let loose in 3rd around a corner in the hills but other than that all the bits behaved and I will go and check it all today. The tunnel had some cool sounds from the different cars and watching barts datto moving around on way down the hill was fun, and I was suprised by the way the cvette was able to keep pace, nice balance in that car and N/A so sounds good to. Check for loose connections from the starter to the battery as well... did the leads from the battery come off? as this is a common cause as well if they are loose. If that fails try a screwdriver directly across the starter motor contacts so it bypasses the solonoid in case it has shit itself but my quick guess if the battery has charge is loose connection somewhere.

Ahhhhh. Well I got a mate to set it up... he sets up race cars and reckons this one is is pretty sweet so I reckon its a goodun. The last one he did was a stock open holden one that did wonders and is what i did the 13.1 1/4 with so I reckon this thing will grip nicely

So my diff is coming together and the final test will be this week... I have Hiace brakes and 3.9 gears on a Turbo Supra 4-spider LSD head in a Hilux housing bolted into a 1970 Holden Torana It was more of a mission than expected but with a friends help I hope to have it running by Saturday.

The old saying ya can't beat cubes is even more relevant in a N/A car mate get the 1800 and mod it or throw a Lexus V8 in it like the one here in CHCH.

I actually have a full set of standard springs in my shed along with other bits of suspension pieces. I have a couple of slightly stiffer front springs than the ones I am using now but I will keep these until after I have track tested it... If I ever get it on a circuit.

Well further development of my little beast... The previous gearbox drama turned out to be nothing and the $80 box survives a bit longer The problem I have had lately is that I broke 2 valve springs about 1 month apart so I am replacing the lot with a better spring but the head needs to be recessed to allow a slightly longer spring. I will see how i go.

I believe theres more than one run mate and yes its all electronically recorded so you get an official readout.... maybe i should throw the spare torana engine that has a hot cam, borrow the head and bolt on the 465 Holley in my 5-speed VK as its a got a 3.23 diff Yea It was chance that I come across it as well, same day as the twilight drag meet.... i might have time to do both.

I reckon I am going to have a go for a bit of fun even tho I wont have high enough gearing I will try and scrounge some big tyres to squeeze under the torana..... but with a max rev of around 6300 and a 1:1 top gear into a 3.9 diff maybe I will only manage about 125mph or 200km/h although with better gearing it should run 140mph. I am going tune it for outright speed so will play with this a bit.

Yep excellent stuff.... This could be the start of something special.... It suited me at Tower Junction as well and as the amount of traffic going past it self advertises to others to come and have a look I really think this car park is 10/10 visibility and plenty of space. I will be back next 1st Fri of the month... Now to what I mentioned about the Drag racing. They are doing a setup and test on Sunday 5pm but I never got a response. I will try again and let you know.
