  1. Pretty much that exactly, Honda proudly advertised it as a "NON SLIP DIFF" though lol Cheers man! Doing the mount ride in a couple weeks? Pics stolen from @64vauxhall, chur boe! Just did a lap of town with Greg, @johnnyfive and Mr @Vintage Grumble ended up on the top of Kaiti hill, sooo slow and the rear wheels are soo out of balance haha!
  2. Met up with the Escapade riders, @64vauxhall and others hopefully have better pics etc that should surface eventually.
  3. Latest order of parts should be delivered in the morning (seriously close to overnight parts from Japan! Ordered yesterday lunch time, they arrived in Auckland this morning!) So it's time to give it a touch of go to match the show... On the left we have a late model Canopy engine with an absolutely fucked crank from sitting in the weather with an open intake. On the right we have a "mid term" Gyro X engine (TD01-200+ used the same engine as the Canopy), with no piston but otherwise good condition, just ugly as fuck with the outboard starter motor mounting position but it's got a crank that's play is in perfect spec, see where I'm going with this? Tonight I started tearing down the engines as the Canopy one needs to be bare to get bead blasted and ported etc and the X needs to give up it's crank. Quickly ran into and issue though, turns out the X is one that still ran a "NON SLIP DIFF" The LSD clutch pack sits outside the oil filled gear housing section But as is typical of these all the teeth are stripped out of the clutch plates, it's a common issue that sees a lot of 1wd Gyro's about, it's also why Honda did away with the LSD and also why clutch plates for them are horrendously expensive if you come across them on Yahoo. Canopy axle left, LSD right Now is where the differences between the engines really set me back, the oil pump drive gear on the crank is a different size and there is a couple other slight differences stopping me from using the mid term X crank in late the Canopy cases, the fact I don't have any good Canopy cranks besides the one in my current is a bit of a set back! And I have a very good reason for not just swapping the Malossi cylinder onto my current engine too. My mate in Japan is trying to sort out a stroker crank for me at the moment, so all hope isn't lost yet at least, question is can we get it to NZ, machine the cases to take the bigger crank and then assemble, run in and tune the engine before the mount ride early next month?!?! Couple schematics to try and make the diff clearer Notice there is no differential in there? Part 8 is the right hand drive axle, between it and part 6/the left axle is this LSD unit The later Canopy uses this set up No locking function, but MUCH stronger and won't turn 1 wheel drive at the first bit of abuse.
  4. That's a tyre in the background lol, they came under "etc"
  5. They came in my very first package from Japan, I was amazed no one picked up on the huge box with just a belt and variator haha
  6. Stoped in at the painters just before and showed him, he's fucked off it's happened and wants me to bring the part that's gone to shit in and he said he will make 100% sure it's fixed for me! Says that it's possible Honda used some kinda wax when molding the plastic that's absorbed into it, has a few ideas for a solution though, so that's good! Rode through town earlier on the way to the paint shop, so so many people turning their heads trying to check it out, courier driver just about crashed as he was too focused on the Gyro haha
  7. Cheers mate! And that by my count brings us to a new page... Hopefully one of the Escapades riders will be getting some decent photos that I can share to do it justice!
  8. The gearbox/diff takes 400ml of 10w30 engine oil... Got 100ml-ish of this out... Think I might leave it at that for tonight... New page soon
  9. Also discovered that the primer hasn't adhered to the plastic, slightest knick and it will peel off in a sheet, thankfully the worst peeled off offcuts, but fuck it looks like it'll need to be repainted ASAP! Looking for advice on WTF to use to get primer to etch into/stick to the PVC (I think) plastic, one wash and this thing will be white again! That's a shanked bolt, the head barely contacts the paint at all, look close and you'll see the massive bubble
  10. That hurt! Ended up taking a bit more off too! Took a template from it once done and cut the other side too!
  11. Back to the plastics, I realized that option A was never going to be an option, so once I had all the wiring, controls (which I still want to replace one day) and cables tidied up and ready to cover and I'd run out of ways to put it of any longer I just had to go for it!
  12. Little bracket my old boss whip up on the mill for my speed sensor
  13. Now I knew how much had to be cut up to clear the forks, I had a fairly hard choice to make, do I A: go back to a stock leading link fork and save the AF35 shocks and disk brake for my Matty B hack build? Or B: bring myself to attack rather pricey brand new plastics coated in an equally expensive coat of paint?
  14. So out came the angle grinder and dremal... Almost clears...
  15. A quick test fit of the old plastics very quickly highlighted what was lost in translation! q Yeah that ain't going to cut it!
  16. Stepping back in time a week or so now. When I brought the AF35 fork and AF56 stem combo I was told by a couple different guys in Japan that I won't have much steering etc, thanks to the language issues we had I had taken it to mean that the fork hit the steering stop etc on the frame, which is part was right (I posted my mod to get around that a while back) Turns out there was more to it than that though!
  17. It's a lighter colour with less metallic, but I'm still pretty happy with it. The boss of the shop himself fitted the tyre with levers to avoid any risk of a tyre machine accident again!
  18. Bike shop came to the party though and offered to cover the cost of recoating and the new bearings I'd fitted etc. So another week later (today) I got it back again
  19. ... yeah they fucked it Padding out this page a bit...
  20. Took it in to a local shop to have the tyre fitted, didn't want to risk scratching it with my levers...
  21. Had the front wheel powder coated the other day, originally took it to be polished but the only polisher in town laughed and said fuck trying to polish that! So yeah he coated it in a metallic silver powder with a metal fleck clear coat. I dug it!
  22. Just saw this in the local paper http://gisborneherald.co.nz/localnews/3100813-135/classic-motorcycle-club-heads-around-cape “We will also have some people in cars to carry our supplies. I mean, we could not go without a cup of tea now could we?”
  23. I'm pretty confident my airbox that's meant to be coming down with @GuyWithAviators will pretty much sort Greg's Gyro out, basically they hate not having any restriction before the carb.
  24. All sunny summer spec here ATM, meant to be possible cloud on Sunday though.
  25. Accommodation booked, now can I turn a pile of alloy parts from 3 different scooters, that look like they've been under the sea for 20 years into a fresh engine in time?
