  1. Found 5 mins to have a play in the garage today, also found my spare cross member so i could line things up on the bench. Will get some thinner heavy duty urethane cortina mounts, which will get the motor a little closer to the crossmember, but when i cut the metal mounts to get the right angle on them i can set the height exactly where i want it. Will definately have to make a sump and modify the oil pickup though, as there are no rear bowl versions of these motors... Might see if a sump from a later model where they flipped the motors could work, but i dont think i'll be that lucky. Will get some pipe tomorrow and get to mocking up the oil pickup. Anyone got a good way of bending 19mm pipe? I might rey welding pie sections together and see if it'll work. Fun and games.
  2. 4g54 = wideblock, 4g52 = narrowblock, in my experience, no one knows what the fuck mitsy were up to sometimes though. I put a 5 speed from a 4g63 l200 into my 4g52 l200 with no issues whatsoever.
  3. Holy shit. Well, i finally have a nice place, and have sorted the garage, so its back in town, and back with this project. There was no luck finding decent gemini guards, and then a chevette front end in tip-top shape came up for a fifty, so its going to be a chevanne again. Definately going with a twin cam 4g63 NA though, should be good. Pics follow: With a bit of cutting and welding and spacing i should be able to use the original RWD 4g63 metal mounts. Puts the motor in a nice place, should have a bit of clearance, but not too far foward. Speaking of welding, sale of the fucking century was this. Im a repco slut, and this was bought in for a trade customer, but the sale fell through. It then appeared on a clearance list, with 'make an offer' on it... I made a stupid low offer and the powers that be said 'choice!'. Less than half the wholesale price, and a quarter of the retail, im well stoked.
  4. You'd be surprised, indulge us, spill!
  5. I think with the balljoints bolted on they end up being slightly longer. edit: ahhhh, now i get where you sig comes from. Nice hoodie .
  6. Hey man. I need to clear out my garage of old parts, so you can have the set of rear lights if you want em, good to have a spare set. PM me with your address and we'll sort it?
  7. I tried this on a 1600 ex lancer, putting the starion 2 bolt lower knuckles on the factory lancer arms. Put the lancer top hats on the starion struts, and it all bolted together sweet, except that the wider starion rotors fouled on the lip at the end of the lancer arm. Sigma's and starions get around this by using a bolt on balljoint, not a press in one.
  8. oh so your that guy could have put a new gearbox seal, in ive got a nice wee puddle under my car now haha just kiddin its coming out to be steamed and sealed anyway and have the push for 5th shit removed Oops, your damn right i should have, i even have one here for it. edit: I never figured out why it had to be pushed for 5th, coz standard boxes dont.. I had 2 other boxes with similar shifters sitting around at the time, so its likely one of them got a little muddled up. Hope it doesnt cause you any dramas.
  9. Hey... that car looks familiar Oh, yeah, it arrived at my garage with a fucked 1200 and left with a not so shit EX 1600 and 5 speed. Love that car man, take good care of it.
  10. Have you tried wiping the panel with wax and grease remover? Should get rid of whats plaguing you if its just old wax. Then put on a decent coat of wax yourself, and stay away from the car wash!
  11. Love your work, kickass.
  12. Undertaking some fiberglassing atm, just playing around to get some experience before i tackle the guards for my gemini wagon. Anyone have any decent links to forums i can browse etc? My old boss put me onto a kickass one, but im about 3 format and reinstalls down the road since them, and i cant for the life of me find it again... : /. Cheers.
  13. GIVE ME YOUR FRONT GUARDS! Awesome car man. Want a spare set of tail lights?
  14. No motor build shots alas, needless to say I'm a lazy bastard and took way longer to do it than I should have. Had exams at the time tho, and then lots of work afterwards... Excuses excuses... Anyway, it's all back together. Fired it up for the first time yesterday. Had the dizzy one tooth out (as usual), once I sorted that it started right up and ran on 3, like any good mitsy . After checking the oil pressure was up (it was, I'd primed the oil pump before starting), i gave it a few rev's... cleaned up and ran on 4, nice. Smoked like a train tho, but this stopped after a while. Pumped up the tires and threw some gas in it today, and it seems to be running okay. Have just given it back to my mate, so I really hope the motor doesn't fly to pieces, as I'm by no means an expert! Didn't smoke when he drove off down the road tho, so that much be a good sign. Enough of this rambling bullshit, pics of oldschool mitsy awesomeness follow: Man im glad those gauges still work, i spent way to much time installing those, hah! Kinda makes me want a starion again, but man, i like steering racks to much, and love my chevette/gemini project to much... Plus i have my L200 parts hauler to satisfy my mitsy needs, which has all the bits for its tadty new motor sitting in the corner waiting to be built Chur.
  15. I sent her down the road to another workshop, where they told her that they could only supply a 12 inch, alas. Hilarious.
  16. Fuck man, dont listen to the drongo's on here telling you its not worth it... Did you have fun? Did you learn something? Fucking worthwhile then wasen't it. Thrash the shit out of that motor and do your best to keep it running, it'll teach you heaps, hah. Asking for a can of compression, hehehehe, fuck thats funny. You should also see if you can find some striped paint, a left handed screwdriver, and a long weight. Had a girl sent in for a six inch populating tool the other day, now thats some funny shit.
  17. No worries dude, I understand. The auto choke on my carb looks to be okay, so all i really need are the choke flaps .
  18. Good shit man, wish i had the cash to buy a new carb aswell! Im building a decent one out of the 3 i have, so hopefully is should go alright. Would you parts with the choke flaps from one of your old carbs? And a manual choke linkage if either of them had one? Cheers man
  19. Been tinkering away when not studying for exams. Motor is out and disassembled. Everything still looked mint inside, bearings dont have a mark on them, etc... Block has been honed, so its all ready to go back together, bar givinging everything a good clean and blow out.
  20. soz dude, its a 5 speed sigma box, the 5 speed l200 box is in my........ l200 But im gonna hang onto it for my chevette sorry.
  21. Yeah, said he'd pay me something, havent talked money yet. But he's a good mate, and i'm up to fuck-all else. Plus mitsies are like lego, none of it is particularly hard . Loving your car by the way man, really looking awesome on those coil overs and meshies. I'd think about buying it back, but with my l200 and chevette wags on the go i have to many projects already. I need to get the l200 going as thats my daily parts hauler. Everything is cleaned and ready to go, just waiting on the machine work to be done on the block. Should be a good little motor though, the machine shop did a whole lot of extra work they didnt have to for me, coz i hook them up with good prices at repco for their own cars, and i bought them some beer, what bloody GC's .
  22. True dat. Due to CUL8R and Brock-Lee being fucking GC's, ive scored from Piazza vented front brakes, and the disc brake diff (not LSD alas). Ive got a sigma 5 speed to go behind an NA DOHC 4g63. Just have to get all these other projects out of the way so i can get the thing back into town and get it sorted! This sapporo would make a mean race car i rekon, stripped, widened and caged... fuck yeah . I'd better go and get to work on it i suppose, wont sort itself out!
  23. I'd like your motor more, but japanese twing cam 16v motors are just way to plentiful and easy to ignore.
