    4age question

supaminx: there's a hillman minx at takanini pick a part at the moment. i don't know enough about them to say if its the same as your car (couldn't find what year it was, rego's gone) but it might be worth a look for you. cheers Matt

    Mitsi driveshafts

english lancer website with an EX2000 (stock 2 litre turbo EX lancer)specific forum http://www.lancerregister.com/forumdisp ... forumid=31 heaps of good info on there for EX lancer owners, not too much about other stuff although starion stuff comes up every now and then cheers Matt

    4age question

2T's are crap compared to 4AGE's, i should know, i've got one in my celica (i had a sohc with twin carbs, now got a fuel injected dohc. only temporarily though). they're heaps heavier and nowhere near as many parts available. that said if you want to spend some serious money on one then the 2T's and 3T's are quite strong and they heavily modify them in mexico to run 8's and 9's. if you can find a 3TGTEU it would be worth it, stock fuel injected turbo'd 1800, and plenty you can do cheaply to get more power (swap from 3T twinspark head to 2TGTEU for a start).
  4. i priced up bushes for the EX a while back, just the rear end, and just the ones on the lower arms (6 in total). i got quoted $150 from mitsi and that was HEAVILY discounted. one of them was meant to be $54 per bush...... i ended up getting the whole arm with 3 decent condition bushes from pick a part for about $8 cheers Matt

    4age question

TIMID has a 20V head on it.......... but the general opinion is that they're not worth the extra hassle. quad throttle bodies are pretty cool though if you want injection. http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/phil.bradshaw/INDEX.HTM have a read through the above website for some info on RWD 4age conversions, i know the guy who made the website and he reckons the EFI is worth the trouble, and not that hard to set up. that said i drove an SR coupe a few years back with twin dellorto's on a 4AGE and it was fucking quick and sounded mean. brakes were a bit scary though........... cheers Matt
  6. is a 74 a Ke20/KE25??? i think there stud pattern was different to most other toyota's, 4*110 i think. also check the inside diameter of the wheel centre is bigger than the bit sticking out of the hub, that might be holding the wheels out further than they're meant to be. you can change wheel studs, its a bit of a mission though. most people who want longer studs seem to use hilux ones cause they are cheap, common, and usually heaps long enough. you would have to check they had the same diameter of the bit that gets pressed in to the hub first though. cheers Matt
  7. nzmmc have got temporary forums up, there's a link to them on performance car forums somewhere. and if those tensioners are anything like the 4 cylinder VR4 one's then they're a bitch to set up, a mate of mine messed it up and fucked the head on his VR4 a while back. we ended up getting a mate who worked for Dallas motors in Hamilton to do it when we put the rebuilt motor in.

    changing shocks

it took a pipe wrench and a 4 foot bar to get my old struts out of the lancer, and thats after 3 other suspension places gave up (with red faces) and sent me onwards. mitsi did use some crappy 1mm thick heads on the strut retaining nuts back then though, stupid idea, 24" crescent just bent the edges up.
  9. oldschoolGTO: same offer on a complete carb from a 4g32 if you want???? assuming i can find one but there's usually a couple around, and i'd prefer a pic or some sort of id number cause there's a few different carb setups i've seen on 4g32's (including double carbs but i'm pretty sure i won't find those) 78lancer: if you're in Auckland i'm going to have 1 upper and 2 lower hoses spare from my front strut conversion. not new but good condition, if you want them they're yours to pickup. that is of course assuming that the older lancers used the same brake hoses????? they're free anyway so it won't hurt to check cheers Matt

    changing shocks

you should get a spare nut when you buy your new shocks, if not then try a proper shock place to get it removed. the shock shop? did it for me for free when i couldn't get mine off cheers Matt
  11. i think he means an actual physical fuel cutoff, not just a power cut to his pump in which case it would have to be on the fuel line or on the carb somewhere, the closer to the carb itself the better so there would only be a small amount of fuel that could drain/siphon into the carb once the engine and pump had stopped running. oldschoolGTO: have you thought about either moving your electric fuel pump to the engine bay or reinstalling a mechanical pump (depending on whats been done to your engine)? might be a way to get around your problem. cheers Matt
  12. just thinking about it, the stock 4G32's might not have a fuel cut solenoid because the mechanical pump would be so close to the carb which would prevent it siphoning?
  13. there's a 4G32 in an EX lancer out at pick a part avondale at the moment, send me a pic showing exactly what this fuel cut solenoid looks like and i'll grab it and send it down for cost plus postage plus $10 for a couple of beers postage should be fuck all too, i just sent the rear callipers off my lancer to hamilton today and it only cost ten bucks and they're about 6.5kg for the pair. email pics to str_ng_r@hotmail.com if you're keen cheers Matt
  14. it will definitly need a cert. i don't know the exact wording (it should be on the LTSA website somewhere) but if the car (your actual car, not just the type of car) didn't receive that particular engine block or if the power output has been increased by more than 25% (pretty sure its 25%) or induction has been changed then you need a cert. since i'm pretty sure that colts never came with 2 litre fuel injected motors you'll pretty much need one to be legal. that said you might be able to get a wof without one but you'd probably find it would void your insurance. what are your plans for the gearbox? and i'll give you a call some time tomorrow regarding my mates ute cheers Matt
  15. don't know for sure sorry. from my experience the 2 litre gearboxes are longer than the 1600 one's (sorry, don't know whats in your celeste) but use the same mounts. when i swapped my gearbox i used the same gearbox crossmember but had to swap driveshaft. i'm guessing you'd need to modify your driveshaft, and i'm not even sure if the gearbox would bolt up to your engine if its a 1600. wish i hadn't have scrapped my old motor and gearbox at times like this, would have been handy for measuring and comparing. cheers Matt
  16. some 4G63's are different, not very however. the bellhousing pattern between the older one's and newer ones is different so gearboxes won't swap over and evo motor's don't have the mounts for rwd configurations, the rest of the dohc motor's seem to however including the vr4 motor. if you want to go dohc you can use an old L200 gearbox (the 4g63 L200's obviously) but i'm not sure on the exact year you should be looking at(although i know an 85 one thats being used). that would probably be cable clutch as well which would make things easier (i'm assuming that the old colts are cable clutch). i swapped from the 1600 in my EX lancer (4G31????) to a sohc 4G63BT and the mounts were exactly the same, except for a locating pin. i just used starion mounts cause i had some handy but it would be pretty easy to either grind the pin off or drill a hole to suit. carby would be the easiest to do of course cause there'd be no change in wiring but then you'd be looking at reasonably old engines. some sohc and dohc 4g63 inlet manifolds are interchangable (apparently) but i've never done it myself and the dohc manifold will be facing the wrong way for your engine, not a hard thing to fix though. if you're in Auckland (is yours the colt i used to see in Devonport???) i might be able to organise for you to have a look at my mates 85 L200 ute, its running a vr4 turbo motor but should give you some idea of the stuff you'll have to do (north/south to east/west engine swap, move thermostat away from firewall, custom pipework for water from rear of engine to radiator, etc) and there's a guy on nzmmc who just swapped a sigma 4g63 carby into his EX lancer: http://forums.nzmmc.co.nz/viewtopic.php?t=27751 cheers Matt

    Sigma lsd

i'm not 100% sure that sigma's are the same but they'd be pretty close. this is the info i've put together trying to find an lsd for my EX lancer which is running a disc brake diff from an EX1800, i've heard these are the same as sigma rear disc brake diffs (sedan's, i think the wagons are leaf spring but the centre's might be the same) but can't confirm. not all of these cars have lsd's but 'apparently' all the nz new starions did the very early starions (81ish) that have a live rear axle have an lsd centre that will bolt straight in. the later starion lsd centre's (IRS) can be fitted but some machining needs to be done (don't ask me what, i haven't done it............... yet, still looking for a diff) some of the 4WD L300's have rear lsd centre's that 'apparently' fit, i've been trying to find one but they don't seem to be that common. i've also heard rumours of pajero centre's being machined to fit, there's a conversation in the tech section of Austarion at the moment but nothing confirmed yet. thats about it, occasionally they come up for sale but they are rare and the rally guys are generally willing to pay a decent price for them so if you find one snap it up. the last one's (proper 2nd hand EX2000 lancer one's imported from japan) i heard of for sale went for about $800 so if you find a cheap one you're lucky, that said there was an EX1800 full rear diff on trademe a while back that i think sold for about $350. i think the best thing to do is to take your centre along to a friendly mitsi wreckers and see what you can find that matches, hopefully you'll get lucky. cheers Matt

    bugger

you done that turbo upgrade yet starionpwr???? and what did you run? cheers Matt
  19. lol, you hop in first smithers, I SAID GET IN!
  20. carby engines should wire up easy as anyway, no matter what sort they are. off the top of my head the only wires should be 3 to the starter motor, an earth from the engine to the chassis, the lead from the coil to the distributor, maybe a couple of wires from the distributor depending on whether its got an internal or external ignitor, and sensor's: water temp, oil pressure (maybe). shouldn't be much more than that, anybody who'd done some basic engine maintenance should be able to hook all that stuff up easy as. all old mitsi's have this shit pretty much the same so yeah, it'll go straight in. computer type shit is where it starts getting hard, believe me. cheers Matt

    My 15's wont fit.

its not exactly uncommon for old cars to have bends in their struts, could be that. i've actually heard of people bending them to add camber but its pretty imprecise and you wouldn't want to go too far because it could affect the movement of your strut insert.
  22. that car has been up for sale a few times in the last year or so and doesn't seem to have come along far. there's some photo's and info of it on nzmmc forums, Pelo was selling it back then but he's no longer the owner. cheers Matt ps: just found out that a sigma diff will bolt in but is wider so you'd have to switch to fwd offset rims on the back, probably not worth the hassle
  23. fukd50 - just found this on trademe, easiest way to get all the bits you need and looks like it could be damn cheap (a gearbox is $70 from pick a part so this would probably work out cheaper depending on what the reserve is) http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 413501.htm just deregister it and flick off any parts you don't want, i'll give you $20 for the front bumper if its straight cheers Matt
  24. i think you need the sigma diff as well, i'm using a EX1800 gearbox/driveshaft/diff, i've been told its the same as the sigma's (except stronger gearbox, and the shifter position might be different so you might need to cut a hole in your gearbox tunnel) and i know with mine i needed to swap all 3. the driveshaft should be two piece but there are mounting holes on your lancer for it. i can't guarantee all this, i only heard it over the net. should be easy enough to measure it up though. cheers Matt
  25. not sure about 4g5*'s, i thought they were Astron engine's and if you're going to go that way you may as well use the 2.6, apparently there's one around auckland somewhere with one thats pretty quick but i've never seen it, only heard about it. there are carby 4g63's (2 litre's) out there in sigma's and galants and they'd be a bolt in fit. i don't know much about astron engine mounts but it wouldn't be hard to fabricate something if they weren't a direct bolt in i haven't got a spare 5 speed gearbox but there are 2 EX lancer's and one of the earlier one's (A73?) out at avondale pick a part at the moment, all manuals. not sure if they're 4 or 5 speed but at least one of them is a 1600 so it should be 5. cheers Matt
