  1. yeah I reckon, my first thought was 'fuck I was drunk but did I actually put an egg in there?'
  2. anyone ever seen this before? waterpump is new and has only done ~4000km. I havent seen anything similar pulling the engine bay apart. Its kind of hard but crushes easily. The motor did have green coolant in it
  3. after the rather long south island drive, I decided to check out the compression, I have ~ #1 105 psi #2 105 psi #3 50 psi #4 100 psi so I decided to take the head off. It appears that I am getting some leakage from between a couple of cylinders. I think I will take the motor out and get some new rings/hone and new bearings as well as decking the block slightly. The head has already been reco'd about 7000k ago so should still be sweet. I had not touched anything in these pics. #3 cylinder has quite alot of dusty/sandy type bits in it compared to the other cylinders. Also not quite sure what was happening with valve 3 being a bit oily as the head was taken apart
  4. another way to basically compare carbs would be to look at how much power the bike made vs what you are expecting. R1's for example made around 150hp at the flywheel so is OK for up to around 2 litres generally
  5. what size is the existing port/s on the engine?
  6. oh lol at carbs falling off. that was my exact problem, drove the last 20k's to fox glacier with only 2 runners attached. You have to be real gentle tightening up the clamps. Make sure that the silicone doesnt get squished off as you do up the clamps and make sure that none of them are jumping the teeth, approximately half of mine are now jumping teeth and they are supposed to be the fancy ones also mine are now cable tied in place, but im sure you said you had braced yours, so maybe more/better bracing also, I really like the air fittings for vacuum lines, I think I may employ that feature myself at some point
  7. sweet guys I'll call them tomorrow, we will be coming down the west coast. I imagine we will be in town around 1130
  8. hey my new master cylinder in my escort has decided to start leaking after like 100km, anyone know a shop in wellington that would be able to supply a willwood mastercylinder tomorrow. part number is 260-6089
  9. I know you're right, but I want to find other suppliers and for cheaper. I just got some reasonably flexible epdm lined hose from Hose Technologies $25 for 2m, I'll give that a go then onto Teflon if that doesnt work still, I can get teflon with stainless braid for about $30/m
  10. well this stuff has not worked, been filled with fluid for 6 days and its permeating through the hose like dew, I will get some new stuff at lunch time and fit it tonight
  11. I have the pedal box finally fitted up and running, took it for a drive today. I had adjusted the bias to the rear so thought the braking was worse than the old land rover cylinder, adjusted it the right way and it brakes awesome, can finally lock up the fronts !!! Also fitted some sock filters for the nats drive, didnt notice a major difference in power loss before filters with filters pedal box with relocated throttle cable showing the cover plate for the heater intake and mildly upgraded wiring haha mock up of the hall effect sensor and trigger wheel with laser cut bracket
  12. have you checked the quality of your multimeter? also, one last thing on the filters. I really like the idea of not fitting filters to my motor for max power and noise, but after 3 years having dropped 40+ psi on a couple cylinders has changed my mind somewhat as to what is important
  13. I would also like to know the only thing I really know about condensors is that if the spark is yellow instead of blue, then your condensor might have crapped itself, and that they are there to stop electrical noise or something
  14. I'll take the hit for the benefit of a longer lasting engine, im already at 105psi on cyl 1 and probably down on power as it is
  15. yeah I saw it, I asked because I have actually seen plenty of them on race cars, but never those tiny pod filters also, I dont have many ponies to begin with, so probably cant lose much? /im just gonna buy them and see what happens
  16. I know/have actually seen lots of race cars use them compared to the small pod filters and I can fit the 'longer' 150mm filters
  17. just because I saw it being talked about here, what do you guys reckon about unifilters being used on individual throttles/carbs. I would like to fit them for the south island trip http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/air-filters/auction-696870614.htm
  18. how do slides seal around the ports?
  19. lol get out of here dave, they look way better than most. You gotta spend the big bucks if you want a flash looking set like jenveys or omex etc
  20. I have bought some from alert motorsport at this stage, got a deal because of OS, will give it a go. If nothing else, I hope it holds till after nats
  21. Alert motorsport have just told me that I can use this stuff http://www.alertmotorsport.com/Product/Vacuum+Tubing/1688 $23+gst / metre I'm sure fitting another fuel tank will be fine as long as everything bolts up and you refit all the hoses properly, not sure on legalities though
  22. what was the type of hose you got? is is reasonably flexible?
