  1. I feel this car is over priced. It sold very recently after sitting for a while and now it’s reappeared further north. It’s weird it’s auto. But it’s the second turbo auto pillared one I’ve seen in 6 months. beware the rego cause the seller couldn’t remember if it was live anymore. theres def a market for them. A Manual and a tidy up might double the value. Off a friend I recently got a lapsed but quite tidy, functional complete SSS hardtop sedan Z18et manual IRS electric everything with loads of parts and better additions for much less.
  2. I got these from a guy who was looking to buy it in a previous life. sheesh
  3. Yeah, so It sprayed out nicely but I ran out of paint this time. it would have been ok if it wasn’t so goddamn thin and pissweak. The colour is too orange for my liking anyway. I’ll get some paint from someone other than spraystore after lockdown. Fuck everything.
  4. Got some hardener and sanding discs last nite so let’s try again.
  5. A comedy of errors yesterday resulted in a shit job all round. the main one being running out of hardener, didn’t even get two coats on. I’ll flat it back again, get more supplies and try again. sigh.
  6. Repairs went well, two lazy days blocking and sanding with really limited supplies, I’m Stoked to report that it’s all rubbed back and paint will fly this weekend! Sorry the photos are so random
  7. some time later... So much for a new roof being decent. about the time I went to filler prime the roof around a hot day, my spray gun fucked out. Borrowed another and off we went. I primed my mrs enginebay too. then today I see the next few days weather is a bit pooze for this sort of thing so I pushed on and then primed in 2K black primer. I had a spare tin and needed cheering up, hence black. Pretty happy with it, still some repairs to go however
  8. We needed a Family car since ive got a kitset family and dogs and small motorbikes, and everyone loves CC, so we never sold it and it sees alot of use. It CHONGS gas and has no performance to make it worthwhile. Needed new boots ASAP. I had my heart set on Hustlers but they got sold out from under me. Tridens look ham on Wagons but great on all other models, i wasnt allowed Cragar SS so it was to be 12 slots! 7in are common but pooze, these things need 8's and attitude. Que overpriced mags. What happened? Gotta pay the cost to be the boss. Im such a jew but made the effort to 'make' the look complete. The roof and door shuts are factory, someone has hit the sides and engine bay with CAT yellow, horribly. They missed most of the sills, sprayed over silicone on the bumper and then flatted off the sides but never polished it.. Its in pretty good shape. Theres a split in the bonnet skin, lumps on some doors but ultimately a good one. I already have a tin of 2K paint to respray it..Its a richer, slightly orange shade.Think NYC cab. Eagle eyed will notice we blacked out the trim around windows. Im not sold on it but its certainly not a bad move. The carb gave some trouble so was pulled down and cleaned, new accelerator pump. Gave it the usual, new fluids, rocker cover gasket, filters, plugs, leads, cap, rotor, points, vac hoses, heater hoses, heater tap, water pump, belt, washer etc. Its been on the road for almost a year now. Ill drag out some more photos in the coming days
  9. I hate missing interior trim so i went hunting to get that sorted. It has had a carpet set but the spare paint leaked in transit. It took AGES to clean it up. It was bone dry and dusty, there was that rank sticky window sweat and overspray on the glass, the demister on the hatch was cooked so i razor bladed it all off and breathed it in. The Vacuum operated heater etc didnt work, rearview needed glued on, there was a firewall/screen leak that soaked the underfelt and smelled.. It had a shit-ugly wooden steering wheel which made life suck as its a non-power steering model. It came with the original wheel but had chunks missing. Used the wooden one for warrant then swapped. After an exhaustive search and several other wheels from XC and XE which dont fit i found XD to have its own damn wheel. We scored a really decent one in the end. I tracked down and fixed missing knobs and things which was choice, added a wee bluetooth stereo that matches the finned vent cover on the dash. Put 4in speakers in the factory spots, one where the Base model central speaker goes and my old-school Pioneer sub from my first car setup in 2004. Pinched a Fusion amp from my mate whos not using it.
  10. Its been off the road for over 10 years and had a VTNZ wof fail sheet saying the seatbelts were toasted (whole interior very dried out!) lower balljoint, lenses sunbleached, no reverse lamps. I fixed all these with some ease. Got the whole front lenses from Rare spares, fucked around with the inhibitor switch for ages and it was shagged so got a new one which wasnt identical but worked with some mods. There was mad rust holes behind the bumper/under tail lights that VTNZ totally missed. This was a pure cunt to get to underneath with leaves in the way too. It typically blew out more than expected and resulted in a repair on the rear quarter. I didnt bog and paint that as it wasnt my usual WOF guy. Its also had a hit on the chassis outrigger where the seat mounts on passengers side so i pulled that out a bit better and added some strength. The Tail lights are almost impossible to get in good shape. Someone had split these one piece units and painted the red with normal paint. This looked like ass and the seal job allowed moisture in and moss was growing. I split them again, cleaned the piss out of them and hit them with VHT NightShade Red, so very stoked how well it worked! I reassembled with clear RTV and they are good to go. Will always be keeping an eye out for spares! Its on farm rego with new plates, I was a little concerned but worst case its a re-reg..Well it must be some loophole to reintroduce an old car to the road? Its real virgin and bog standard, all numbers match. 4.1 BW35 auto Column change. Someone has treated it to new shocks in the front, Air shocks in rear. It went back onto the road no sweat thank god! Didnt need to go back to VTNZ either.
  11. Sorry chaps, life got in the way of reporting my oldschool actions, and ive neglected to tell you about this beast. My mrs is besotted with old square cars. When we spotted this on marketplace for what we reckoned was cheap, we decided it was a good deal and we should grab it to tidy up and flick to fund a house deposit. sight unseen from Dunedin.
  12. Finished the welding last weekend, it fought me the whole way and looked like shit so I didn’t even bother to document it. Here’s some of the bits I cut out. all the repairs got 2k etch primed, body flatted back and yesterday I started throwing bog on. Fuck I detest sanding bog. made good progress but so much left to go
  13. Just CRC rust converter. I put some on the underside of the roof skin in some places And it’s left a brown powdery residue on top of its purple ‘conversion’ stain.. So I’m not hugely confident in it in thin applications? Maybe I didn’t shake it enough, maybe it was humidity, maybe it wasn’t made to Be left exposed. i usually use it for cavity’s or smash some black zinc over the top after it’s dried for for a day.
  14. All very painless. Lots of rust converter poured down the pillars and copper sprays for days Soz I remembered about pictures as I finished with the black zinc Fluked the rail, even the chrome clips on
  15. Still on daily duties. The datsun club had a meet at Levels in Timaru last weekend and we did a few laps of the track during lunch break. Didnt miss a beat. then on Saturday night I was thinking of excuses to avoid this respray, and essentially had nothing so on Sunday I stripped it and started undrilling the roof. Not too many nasties, really stoked the side rails are mint considering. It has bust out on both front corners, prefect time to slice this out! The new roof skin weighs 8kg. The red one was 15kg. The amount of bog truely is astounding, and I gave it a layer of rhino-liner on the inside to assist in strength.. and a full size piece of dense underlay because I didn’t know if it would drum. Gonna be so good to not have to drag that around! Won’t be running the towbar next time, so minus another 12kg easy. the bootlid is from the old nickM race car, it’s really really fucking tidy. No rust, one small ‘depression’ near the lock, and came with nice bolts and a nicer-than-my-current lock mechanism. Big thanks again to nick for that, the red one had a lot of time, rust repair and bog in it, and wasn’t in nice shape. I have a fair few areas I’m going to re-do but I’m not going to let this drag out. Will be done before the weather cools down again
  16. Well I ignored it for 6 months, but the ‘rust forming in rad support’ that was commented on the last WOF sheet, failed to fix itself. I bashed the support out today and reassembled, the under-bonnet was a month back. i was trying to hold out to do the roof and all other repairs and paint it again before it’s next warrant.. But life got in the way and it’s been non-stop. I decided I needed it back in daily use ASAP. The datsun club nationals took place on labour weekend so the Mrs and I raced up and had a thrash round the private Rodin track with about 40 other cas. Went real well but brakes faded. i had a Frankenstein speedway A15 carb on I borrowed from Brendan. it was great fun on cam but temperamental around town and flat-spotted before climbing to the moon. Now I’ve got the twins back on but seems flat. I snapped a throttle cable and had another made.. it has a totally different feel and probably needs investigating. I put a brand new set of tyres on it too. They are nice, same Nankang AS1 as before but not shot and cracked!
  17. I had to do a wheel bearing for my warrant. Otherwise good!
  18. the PV skyline ones are big compared eh. unfortunately I found another car on Facebook that’s very similar in colour to what I had in mind for all these years. Essentially, I’ll have more stripes and gold pearl.. so will press on with plan, lol.
  19. Also a place called Dawson’s springs and wireform in Chch?
  20. Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet, been busy with mrs car, change of work, wee motorbikes and then lazy. i did do the H165 diff swap! My boss went away for 3 weeks and left me his car so I took the opportunity to sort it then. No great pics but after I cleaned it up I hit it with some black zinc and then spare 2k black my flat mate was using. black zinced the springs and bolts and brackets and shit, swapped the shoes and cylinders etc over, cut the old shock mounts off and welded to new diff, swapped the hose mount to opposite side, tidied and swapped hard lines and handbrake cables and made a small bracket to move the cable mount about 50mm across. Cbf cutting it off and rewelding and painting again. had to shorten and balance driveshaft using the larger rear flange off Ute to suit the new diff. Also scored a factory style output seal for the box with the the steel shell through a supplier at work. i don’t like the new ratio ill keep an eye out for a different head I guess. Have spent ages adjusting the brakes and starting to get somewhere. Then a yarn cam up of a NOS roof skin in a blokes shed roof. calls were made and it showed up a few weeks later. Was damaged in transit yonks ago and the guy tucked it away for a rainy day. well everyone knows my roof is fucked from a fire way before bart and I had this so it’s forever changing shape and now the bog has cracked. Time to re-roof it. Now because it’s a datsun, of course the cunt was rusty despite never touching a car and being dry its entire life.. It had a few dings and scrapes but most hammered out well, the rest will be done when it’s stuck to the car so I have some rigidity. i buzzed it All back and wire wheeled the Deep bits and hit it with 2K epoxy etch to seal away the baddies. The inside was much better so just got rust converted after wheeling. sorry to the neighbourhood for 90 minutes of this bitch singing on the panel stand, very harmonious for a Good Friday. so yeah, dunno when I’ll attach it now. Means I should do new rubbers and change to a better screen, a real headlining at the same time too. $
  21. Not sure what bit’s you need, but I replaced the main one with some generic rubber From basis, I can get the part number. The rest could be found at para rubber with some patient searching. Ute stuff will be available new genuine but may need modification/trimming to suit sedan
  22. Cool, done! Just waiting for x member and some 2pot calipers from an NA 4 stud stagea, skyline etc to start mounting, mod tunnel and front panel, maybe area above diff.
