engine pretty much where it sits. will need to move half inch or little more to the passenger side to clear steering on the drivers side. Still fouls on the steering arm tho, will need some help with that one for sure.
main issue for now:
doing the gearbox by myself gave me the shits, especially with blocks and 2-3 jacks. Looked at getting transmission jacks, saw the price and decided to make oneup, actually works mint. stable, swivels, generally loltastic
that car done right will get all the right bystander reactions. no need to ruin it with a tryhard plate or shitty accessories. no accounting for taste tho, just saw a genuine evo kermit green on chromes. some people
i think the main concern with converting a fulltime 4x4 type vehicle was the possibility of messing up how the car drives, so something that is designed to drive in 2 or 4 wheel drive wouldnt be an issue i would think
hi Clint,
just further on this, I am essentially looking at something like this setup (just different engine/box of similar configuration)
http://www.turbo124.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7342
what he has done there is bin the front diff and CVs. full time 4wd vehicle. Crossmember, steering and suspension will stay more or less as it was. Do you see any imediate issues just from looking at it?
Also what do you suggest for sealing off the hubs where the CV went in?
thanks heaps
will be finishing pulling the lot out this weekend and suss the feasibility of that.
Also researching adopting a CAS and coils to replace the dizzy setup, there are some options online with maybe using an aftermarket controller of some sort and/or going for a south african brand ECUs which are cheap cheap online, will see distributors today for prices here vs. ordering online
not entirely sure what a divorced case is?
the issue is that my box will be longer than the std Lada box. the way it works on a Niva is that the rear of gbox is pretty much straigh into the transfer case with a short coupling between. longer box means having to re-mount the TC further back and shorten rear shaft AND lengten fornt shaft (which I wouldnt enjoy per se) OR get rid of it. getting a different TC adapted would be as much hassle I think.
oh yup cheers fullas.
SP - cant really do that as if I dont keep 4wd I will be getting rid of the transfer case so there's nowhere to run the front shaft from. Cant lose the front dif as that will fuck over the steering and suspension a wee bit unless something else Lada bolts up front.
Brock-Lee - I thought this also, must investigate
correct, Niva. it would be quite hard to get rid of the front setup but i dont see an issue with it being there with no shaft going to the diff really, unless someone knows better? This is only if I dont manage to keep it 4wd which I hope to.
@ keltic, because BPT engine has a sticky outy dizzy setup
a couple questions i was hoping someone can halp with.
1 - whats the dealio with cutting a hole in the firewall to fit a dizzy? I assume it would need to be boxed in on the inside of car?
2 - is it all good to convert 4wd to RWD and leave front diff and cvs in place?
Lame pictureless update. New motor and box sourced for a repower, as well as a heap of shit from a donor car including guages, sensors, dash, cables, looms, pumps etc.
Seems the car is now dubbed the Lazda
