  1. Shit sorry! From what I've seen they seem to range from about $80 - $120 each, probably pay to ask them first!! My Shitty Primera ones were cheaper than my boss' Anglia ones for some reason! Thought mine would have cost more cause they are way bigger!
  2. It seems like exactly the same stuff to me... BUT... They do cut little gaps in them so it isn't TOTALLY solid! My Bosses Anglia went through for Cert with those engine mounts in there too. Is mint to drive, just notice a small vibration into the body when starting, but otherwise isn't harsh at all. If you are all too scared to use them then no point bitchin about it!
  3. Yeah just look up BNT in the phone book, is one on pretty much every decent sized town! Will have the prices tomorrow for ya...
  4. If any of your old Engine Mounts are stuffed, take them to your nearest branch of BNT and they will send them away to be remade with stuff like what the Nolathane bushes are made of! This is WAY stronger than normal rubber so perfect for when thrashin your oldschool ride. They can do pretty much any kind of mounts - I sent my two mounts on my North South beam in the Primera away to get done, just fitted it today and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Hardly any flex in the mounts at all! They did put a couple of cutouts in the mounts - even though I asked for SOLID mounts But it doesn't seem too bad as it is. I'll be sending my old 1600 mounts away soon so they are all ready for the extra power of the SR20. My Boss has had his old Anglia ones done too after his 1600 engine kept breaking the original ones. Will update when I find out how much it actually cost me...

    LSD diffs

Nah they come in a 4.1 too, my mate has one in his GT wagon.
  6. Yeah man, I've seen that too aye. Seen the bearings from a 253 A Grade stockcar engine after a few meetings with Motor Up in the oil - wasn't much left of them!!
  7. Yeah man, next thing they'll be telling us that Motor Up actually DOES work! "It gave me SOOO much more power! My engine was worn out till I added this stuff to my oil!" YEAH RIGHT!
  8. About time somebody actually believes the mechanic!!

    tyres rubbing

Sweet man. Small price to pay to get the wheels you want on your car!
  10. But you can't dissolve dirt! All I can see it doing is breaking the dirt up and send it through the filter - blocking that up!

    tyres rubbing

Hey did you end up sorting out your problem?? Sometimes reducing the steering lock can be an easy job, but there are the odd vehicles out there that just makes things difficult! If you are still having problems I might be able to have a quick look at it for you - since you are a local and all!

    long wheel studs

All wheel spacers now have to be bolted to the hubs, so you legally can't just throw a set of spacers and longer studs on anymore. But of course that is only if they notice them! I have 3mm spacers on the rear of the Primera and the testing station hasn't even noticed yet
  13. Ummm, how is some additive going to remove dirt and shit from your tank?!? What a rip off! From a mechanics point of view, the ONLY way you can remove the dirt is by sucking it through the fuel system when the tank runs low (NOT RECOMMENDED!) or by removing the tank and cleaning it out.
  14. Yeah there are a few 1600's that have different types of chassis number positions. My wagon has one on the usual left strut tower position, one inside drivers door and another that you can see through the windscreen and small hole in dash on Left side like the late Holdens have!
  15. Yeah man, 1342 is right. 4 Cylinder engines are easy - can only be either 1342 or 1243, which is just reversed. Have only EVER seen 1342 though! Number 1 should always be at the front of the engine, although some Euro engines are backwards!! Have ony ever seen that once. Let me know what the engine code is and I'll find out what the timing should be set to at work on mon. Probably just an E5.
  16. They LOOK very much like late 80's Prelude seats, from the old square 2000cc DOHC non vtec beasts??

    Leaf Springs

Shit you must've had a pretty blind dude there! One of my workmates took his Mk2 Escort van through and they told him to get his springs re-set! They didn't like the flipped leaves. Dunno how many of you saw the Dark Blue Anglia in the show at the Auck Nats, but that had a couple of leaves removed, he flattened all the leaves flat with a hammer and anvil, used some slightly thicker flat steel to make stronger leaves(only about 2 per side) then assembled the spring packs and took them to get heat treated. Worked a treat, doesn't sag when on the road - real firm ride, also no spring flex or horrible tramp when on power or when wheel spin occurs
  18. I'd stick with trying to find a 1600 and spend the extra working the hell out of it! Go with NA power!!

    Locking Diffs

Hey this shouldn't really be in Tech Talk! Should start up a Dodgy section!!

    Locking Diffs

Or you could be fancy and use a line lock valve, then all you have to do is flick a switch - instant lack of rear brakes!

    Locking Diffs

Yeah you've got the idea, just a matter of welding up the gears inside the Differential carrier. Have to make a good job of it though or it will just break the weld, there is alot of force trying to hold the gears together! Yip it's illegal alright! Will allow you to do better burnouts if you can spin both wheels and will give you a mean ride!!

    kill kill kill

I've seen a car come in to work which had the lighter hooked up somehow! Had to push the lighter in to allow the engine to start. Who'd think of cheacking that?!? Can find out how if anyone wants to know...
