i have decided to just put this 1600 i have into my car.. but to save time and money i am going to get the cam reground and maybe change the pistons to 1300 ones to up the compression... but i h ave a few questions.. The mechanic that is helping me do the work suggested maybe a GT cam grind... but i thought i might want a bit more than that.. i am planning onrunning it with the cam and pistons then later removing the head and getting it ported polished etc to get the most out of the cam and stuff but i am waiting till ican afford it.. can anyone reccomend some cam grinds or something? i have heard of BCF3, 234 and mild race, etc cams.. and what do you ask for when you go into the machinist? that you want a bcf3 grind..... secondly... the 1300 pistons i am getting from repco.... and i only need the standard 1300 XFlow pistons right? not rods right? Cheers Jerm

I have been told that some 1600s have big valves some don't... didn't 1600s only come in the sports(mk2)/GTs (mk1) and the ghias? ... i am told the ghias and the gts have big valve heads, so which don't? and how can you tell? i'm looking at geting a 1600 built for my car.... chances are the bores will be worn out so the guy who will be doing it said, if it needs boring usually they just go straight to 60though... also will be getting porting, cam grind etc.

yeha i checked the leads .. that was the first thing i did ... and when he bought it the dizzy was off.. but i installed it according to the haynes manual.... pointed the vacuum advance thing to the back of the car and pointing te rotor at number 2 inlet.. then when you push it down the rotor moves and points perpindicular to the block.... i thought that was sweet...... maybe the actual contents of the dizzy has been put together wrong? it looked ok to me though...
-
yeah i thought that to but i tried it... briefly... because the dizzy only turns a max of less than 180 degrees i think and i tried it at almost both extremities and aroudn the middle i thought that should be ok shouldn't it?
-
yeah its fucked aye.. he reckons he isn't getting good comp in the cylinders... but i'm sure at least one of them would fire aye.... i htink maybe its just mega flooded

My mate recently bought a wagon that is in nice tidy condition... Won't start though.... Turns over sweet... its getting fuel...and sparks all the ignition seems to be sweet... but we get nothing.. it wierd should at least hear at least one of the cylinders igniting? Probably easier just to drop an engine in cos this one looks a mess... looking for a 1300 Xflow which runs well.. Any thoughts? Cheers Jerm

sure its just on tthat yor throttle cable is getting stuck somewhere along the line?
-
no you should be able to use any throttle linkage off an escort with a weber carb.... eg a ghia.. which is pretty easy to come buy
-
i have never driven a 1100 but i have a 1300 and its barely enough.... and the pistons are actuall all diffferent... that why you here people talk of putting 1100 pistons in a 1300 and 1300 pistons into a 1600....to get a higher CR.. i think it is the other way round and the cranks are all the same? and the rods and piston heads are all different between all the Xflows... why not just put a 1300 with a weber and extractors... that should go ok... and be cheap as chips Jerm

nah mine doesn't rev to 5800 i don't think... and its hust under 4000 at 100kmph
-
does it have a switch on it that says 4/6/8 ? put it on 4 which is for 4 bangers...
-
locknuts are not all unique, there are only a certain number of key shapes... so take it to a tyre place and see if they can match it..?
-
bets to take it somewhere... i have heard of a mechanics tool called a stilsons wrench or some shit that can grip round things... they use it to remove bolts that are rounded and munted
-
are compressed springs illegal? i reckon it depends cos i have ridden in leons car and it rides pretty shit.. but on the other hand i rode in mk1 eskys car the otehr day which had 1.5 inch lowering blocks and compressed fronts and it rode like a dream....

heres one for $30 http://www.trade-exchange.co.nz/TEProje ... ID=6157770 might be a bit far away though
-
look in the trade and exchange website.. you can pick up a 1600 head for liek nothing i think... crossflow as above means the inlet is on one side and the exhaust onthe other side of the engine... alot of old engines are not crossflow like the k series toyota engines where the exhaust and inlet are on the same side of the engine...i'm pretty sure
-
no with a set of extractors the exhaust will make a difference with other mods also as you can read above... Leave him alone he can do what he wants... the 2 litre probably needs certifying to...which is money...
-
look on trademe there is a single 45mm sidedraught DELORTO with manifold to fit a 1600 crossflow... for like $400 looks mean...
-
i can get my hands on two 3.54s then and two 1600s so when i put the 1600 in my 1300l i should put the diff in too? the 1600 is out of a 1600 auto ghia
-
what do the 3.54 come in? what comes in the 1300 L and the 1600 auto and manual ghia?
-
i have heard of it, it gives you the mean compression... i think mk1 esky has done it in his mark one.. i don't know if he comes on here much though... CRAIG you there?...he told me it goes hard
-
i tihnk thats a question for big dave
-
yeha i tink you might have to get a manual driveshaft and gearbox mount... unless you want to make an adaptor to fit the 4 speed. and you will have to set up some mounts similar to the manual ones to get the clutch cable through to the clutch fork
-
yeah.. its still int here! its taking ages...i think he will do a real good job but he is taking ages and isn't that reliable aye...
-
fuck yeah that would be much easier than turbo... did it go alot harder? i see that is on a 2L pinto.. what car was it in?.. did he just run a pipe into the top of the carb?
