  1. I considered that but no, angles are nice and nothing has changed since the previous engine was in there and driving
  2. Yup, diff is free as, can roll the car around easy, spin the pinion flange by hand and cycle it through a one wheel peel by holding each wheel. no clunks or dragging. has to be something in the flywheel/clutch situation. But I don’t understand what it could be. the old box shifts through all gears nicely still . dumb
  3. Replaced the gearbox. got it all back together. done a tune on the engine. go to chuck it in gear to see if it’ll play ball. Nope, same bloody issue. wtaf
  4. Yeah correct, my days are all farged up lately. jacks ridge/Whitfield forest Sunday
  5. Got the domain SS on Friday, then down raglan way on Saturday, Puhoi/Kaipara on Sunday. should be a bit of fun.
  6. Picked up the new mystery gearbox. chucked it all back together this morning. then got a call from Chris @suspension tech, struts are ready. they look pretty swanky. only thing left to do now is do all the fluids and test the box out. And tune it
  7. Hey guys, im doing some work for rally nz in 2 weeks. is there any of you who could be keen to jump in the passenger seat of the sweeper vehicle? tasks are to check and collect paperwork, maintain comms (radio network and rally safe unit), refrain from vomiting as we drive through stages clearing each one, assisting competitors if required.
  8. Out with the engine to unfuck the gearbag. mozzle give it a clean. waterblasted the engine bay then biffed it in the naughty corner for it to think why it’s being such a c@@t im off to pick up another bag of gears after lunch, only costing 2 arms this time. atleast she still shines like a diamond in a goats arse
  9. Right so I chucked in reverse and wound it over on the key, it operates normally. same if put in first. I’ll try it again later tonight after the whinging Pom next door goes home
  10. Yes you can. clearly gearbox internals. been trying to find any helpful diagrams etc for hours now clutch operates as it should (can’t be pilot bearing issue) diff is fine brakes don’t drag engine still runs with clutch in and in gear.
  11. Definitely not brake related, that’s what I suspected first off. But spins fine when jacked up.
  12. Might have to be cancelling that cert there mr @cletus if it can’t be driven fml
  13. no fiddlers been in there, just been hanging out waiting for the engine. Operated sweet before. it’s rotates about a foot or so
  14. Righto geezers, I installed engine. Check got it running. Check put it in gear. Check drive. Fail something between the flywheel and driveshaft is locking up. I’ve lifted it off the ground, ran forward a few seconds then locked, same for reverse. any ideas oh wise folk??
  15. Engine is back in the hole. oil pressure achieved. battery said nope, it’s Monday
  16. Omg omg omg it’s baaaaack. this has some epic compression. need to get hold of some 20mm frost plugs to fill the coolant passages at the intake, torque the flywheel bolts then bang it back in.
  17. I once took a ht18 rx7 turbo on carryon to chch. Clearly over the 7kg carry on in that bag , no excuses
  18. Out with the old, in with the newer. fitted some adjustable Cusco shocks. may end up ordering some GAZ adjustable shocks for it at some point. also a direct bolt in jobbie. have Chris at suspension tech building my coilovers at the moment along with camber top mounts.
  19. Just been sorting through old junk. half a step closer
  20. Ugh … she’s gone. but in other news I have plenty of gtx bits to get rid of now. engine with gated manifold and td04, 4 puk clutch. 2 bare blocks 3 heads (1 known runner) sumps, starters, ps pump, alt, intake manifold, hatch fuel tank, bonnet, front guards, loom, ecu, afm, standard turbo manifold
  21. Soooooooo I just got a decent offer on this thing that I just couldn’t refuse. will sell it on to focus on the Grunter, then move onto the second Grunter after that. as awesome as this car is, it’s fragile, hard to get running gear for it and it’s not rwd. Will regret it, but I’m guessing it’ll become more of a headache than it’s worth. I’ll get my sideways fix with the second Grunter soon enough. wont take an extreme amount of time.
  22. Are these yours to sell? by centre bore is around that measurement
  23. Makita hand lathe. chuck the driveshaft into the box, slap it in gear and get someone to spin it while you expertly lathe it down with a flap disc. I have personally used this method before and that particular setup is still ticking along 18 years later. Or take the bearing into your local bearing shop and try and get one matched up
