  1. This has been my working environment for the last few days: It's much tidier now though, wiring is almost done. Just need to connect the DBW pedal and a few other wires. The main parts are done. Once my new engine mount arrives the motor and gearbox will be going in. Need to install the shifter box as well.
  2. I would estimate around 140 hp, possibly more. Only way I can judge is that I lined up with 2 ABF Mk2s (2L 16v with 150hp) when the car was running rich and had the longer ratio gear box and it was just slower, I was on their bumpers. Never had it properly on a dyno unfortunately. The cam was a 276 degree, I had that in my old motor as well and to be honest it went perfect fine on the road. With the carb motor you have to get used to driving as the throttle was very quick to respond so was very easy to either stall or over rev while taking off, but you get used to it and then it's easy. It also wasn't the smoothest but I drove it regularly without a problem, it just depends how fussy you are and how smooth you expect I suppose.
  3. I like what you've done. I'm sure I've seen this car before as well somewhere. Sorry to see the accident damage but at least it happened because you were using it properly.
  4. Just have a quick read through your build thread. Very cool, looking forward to more progress. Also I agree with you about the single headlights.
  5. By the way, who's was that silver 240z that was there? That car was very nice.
  6. Thanks. Yes saw that Mk1, I actually also own a mk1 in that exact same spec, year and color but it's just a standard 1.5 diesel (for now). I'd say that Mk1 is a very good price for what it is. Yeah I did, sorry man. Could put another one together though. What are you building?
  7. I do still have the one that was in the mk2 but I don't really want to sell it, I know how hard they are to find. I know I'll always regret it, sorry man.
  8. Almost forgot the most important feature:
  9. Just realised it's this Sunday. Will be there in the E28.
  10. Hahaha. Thanks man. This won't help either but they are so easy to work on and pretty much everything Golf fits all other Golfs so you can do so many things with them.
  11. The wheels on there are widended Mk3 Golf steelies which I polished the lips on and clear coated them. Eventually it started to chip though and rust spots started forming. Those wheels are gone now. At this point I did a motor swap (this was about a 15 months ago). I started out wanting to just do a 2L block swap, but, as I always tend to do, I, got carried away, went large and did a 2L crossflow with bike carbs. This involved a mk4 8v cylinder head on a mk3 2E block plus a bunch of other stuff. I also cleaned up the bay, hid most of the wiring, used an e36 radiator with built in bottle, moved battery to the trunk and painted the bay black. Full specs: A 2E 2L block AKL mk4 8v crossflow cylinder head Cylinder head polished on intake ports and port matched and polished on exhaust ports (all by myself) 276 Techtonics tuning camshaft (that I was using in my old engine) Original 020 gearbox Short shift kit Yamaha R1 Bike Carbs (40mm) and custom made intake manifold Early mk2 distributor with vacuum advance Port matched dual outlet exhaust manifold with ABF downpipe 2.25" exhaust Lightened flywheel Block, cylinder head and gearbox painted black Mk3 Valve cover mirror polished Holley fuel pressure regulator and Summit Racing gauge Serpentine belt setup including waterpump BMW e36 Radiator with built in overflow bottle Depowered power steering rack. A few months ago I swapped the gearbox for a short ratio GTI box and put the standard flywheel back in. I was actually pretty quick for what it was, kept up with ABF mk2s on the old gearbox while running rich. I had some good fun with this motor, loved the fact that I could just swap jets and make little adjustments on the carbs to tune it and it sounded amazing. After that I sold the widened steelies, put widetrack front and rear with 256mm front brakes and put my original wheels back on. Recently I got given a leather GTI steering wheel from my good friend, installed Mk3 Recaro front seats (running no back seats as I have been since forever - no friends and because racecar) and got hold of a 7 slat early front grill This is what it looked like 2 weeks ago: After about a year of driving the bike carb 8v I just felt that I reached the end of what I could do with that set up. So I put the whole setup for sale and bought a 1.8 20v turbo motor and 02a cable shift gear box. So I'm in the process of installing that, which involves installing a hydro clutch, drive by wire (the DBW ones can be tuned over the OBD port which is why I chose it) and some of things. At the moment there is no motor in it, dash is removed and wires are everywhere. Will post a photo tomorrow. I hope to have it done in a couple weeks and if all goes well I'll be coming to the next wednesday night meet in it.
  12. Thanks. I found that wheel (and a second one the same at the same time) on trademe. Score of the century if you ask me. But it's not in this car anymore.

  14. This Mk2 was my first car and I've owned it for close to 5 years now. Bought it as a standard 1.8L 8v Digifant Mk2 that hadn't been messed with, so the perfect base. And then I messed with it. All work on this car was done by me with the help of a couple of good friends. Link to discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48069-m-ms-1989-vw-golf-mk2/ How I got it: Then I did many things, so I will just post photos. Sorry but I can't be bothered typing it all. More to come later/tomorrow (the best bits are yet to come).
  15. Decided the low life wasn't for me, would rather drive my car hard. So I raised it and got some decent sized tyres. Found an Mtech 1 steering wheel and got offered a full set of Mtech vinyl seats and door cards at a price I couldn't refuse, so got those and put them in. Now it's like this: Plans for now are to just drive it. Using it at the moment while I do yet another engine swap on my mk2 Golf (with make a thread shortly). Eventually I want to do either an m30 or m50 turbo with manual gearbox of course, but that will be long term. If I'm fortunate enough I might be able to do an S motor or M88, we'll see what life has in store. Right now I need to fix the fact that it's using way too much fuel, around 15-16 liters per 100km. I've checked everything and reset the throttle cable, tps, idle mixture screw etc as someone had messed with all that but it hasn't improved it. Need to see what's going on there. But it's been going reliably for the 2 years I've owned it and for how much I paid for it, it's far outlived it's cost so I hope I can do something cool with it.
  16. Let me have it, comment away. Link to build thread: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48066-m-ms-bmw-e28-525e/
  17. Fixed it up and got it road legal, then sold the wheels as they weren't my style and bought some 16x8 BBS Style 5s. I polished the lips and painted the centers antrachite grey: Put them on, lowered the car a lot and drove around like this for a while:
  18. After going to the meet last night and being told I should post a thread on my cars I figured I may as well. So here goes. Link to discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48067-m-ms-1985-bmw-e28-525e/ This is my BMW e28 525e that I picked up 2 years ago. It's auto last owner had if for around 7 years and took decent care of it. Registration was on hold and no WOF, needed a few things but no big deal, just stuff like new rear shock mount and some rust holes in the drivers floor to be fixed. This is how it was when I just got it and cleaned it up:
  19. Was my first meet, had a good time. 10/10, would do again.
