  1. What reissue KT66's have you tried? Tung Sol any good? I should give up this Valve stuff and stick to vinyl, tapes, speakers and transistor amps.
  2. yea just wondered about the photo caps, thought that wasn't right only have two KTs from one of them. First thing I need to do is strip, fill, primer, paint and polish them
  3. What kind? I've heard of people using several 600v 2200mf photo flash caps with good results?
  4. One had EL37s written on it the other had KT-63s or 66s in it. I thought EL37s were quite hard to get these days?
  5. I was hoping for 20 or 25 watts from each mono block which is easily half of what you can get out of a pair. Something sort of like the Leak TL-50
  6. Thanks JVC's I find are one of the easier ones to fix and are surprisingly good sounding but I'm probably going to run them as rears with my SK-1000s or SK-600s The plan so far is to run the kt-88s in push pull like the original El37s were except it'll be using the center tap of the output transformer to feedback for a form ultalinear like some Leak and quad amps used. Yes it seems a waste of good tubes but because they are being run so quietly they'll last a long time
  7. Haven't had much time lately to do up things because I work 6 days a week, just been enjoying listening to my set up. But this is what I have managed to do. First is a pair of JVC SK-50's I got dirt cheap off TM. Like all good old speakers the rubber had deteriorated but this is easy to fix. Before After I have also got two mono valve amp chassis that I am going to rebuild for HiFi use, I was thinking twin KT-88 on the output
  8. http://www.palmside.co.nz/product_pcid_14881.html Could be an option
  9. Akai's Ive got GXC-570D mk1 GXC-760D 2 of GXC-75D 3 or 4 of GXC-709D and a couple of CS decks And They All Work!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Yip what he said. My Akai, Teac and Technics decks work really well on chrome and metal tapes. and once again it comes down to your machine and other equipment your using whether chrome or metal is better. I would be happy if i could get either.
  11. Yes please let me know. I need some decent tapes. I know that there's a place locally selling cheap maxell tapes.
  12. Where can you buy chrome cassettes from?
  13. Thanks, it's almost finished. Could do with making up some new wooden panels for the sides, I like the idea of a red ish wood but would have to do it in veneer over ply because of the shape and wanting grain on top, side and front.also need to paint the top but don't know what with yet Kenwood-9340 40watt RMS on Four channels has discrete decoding for quadradiscs and RM or SQ processing for awesome effect. It's so much better than home theater and could be cheaper
  14. Thanks so much for the offer but I have already borrowed one and thought I really need one so I am after one to buy
  15. Well its one of the best decks I've come across. I need a nice big reel to reel
  16. Its been awhile since the last up date but this is what I've been up to 14Kgs of Akai Gxc-570d, Easy restoration just replace the belt, power cable, faulty components, clean pots, strip and clean entire unit and re-lube mechanism and its ok but as its a tape deck and I am a perfectionist(OCD?) over these Akai's I spend many hours tweaking all the internal adjustments till it can Record and plays back the tape and have it sound exactly like the record it was recorded from. No one believes I can get CD quality sound out of a cassette until they hear one of these but what do you expect when it cost about $950us in 1975. I hoard Cassette decks
  17. Display dead ic 901 or something has died. Anyway more important things. i found another Technics amp to play with. This time its rather more dead because rust has dissolved a lot of the components on the power amp board. Technics SU-V9, 120 Watts per channel when both are driven at 20-20K Hz, 850 Watts power consumption, 15Kgs, New Class A and hopefully sound fantastic
  18. Thanks for that It turns out that yea i was doing something like that. traced some wires and tried it again, the display is totally dead but everything else works. It played a tape. Might try and trace fault but it has so many IC's, probably isn't worth the bother
