  1. Wonder why i never thought to ask that question.
  2. I do agree but if funds lack the Honda option is just as good
  3. Thanks guys, feel like a muppet now. Roman cheers for the flow chart. seen the error in my ways. Only reason i was going to disable is the set of cams i have my eye on say they can't be used with vvt. Going to have to rethink the usage of them. Maybe stick with kelford 193b or similar.
  4. Any obd1 ecu such as a p72 will work. Vtec once for 20v non Vtec for 16 and gze. Its really not that hard at all. Its not hard, need to make an adaptor for the loom, run the Honda distributor (bonus upgrade). Use crome or hondata to tune it and its a poor mans motec.
  5. Was asking for me. A little bit of a thread hack.yes the vvt system isn't on the camshaft but am talking about ones where you can't run the vvt pully
  6. Cams that you can't run vvt. Rally camshafts. designed for high rpm over low/mid range disability.
  7. Details of the chip?? Do you have any vvt killer cams and a light weight flywheel??
  8. Basic rule of thumb with the 4age is any major mod that doesn't require a new ecu won't make much power. Depends on your budget but a Honda ecu would make a cheap upgrade which you can change depending on what you want to do. I had a 4agte with a Honda ecu. Cost about 1/2 what an aftermarket one would do. But how often do you hunt hondahs??
  9. You have a few options, 1) Aftermarket 2) Honda ECU You cant chip the Toyota ECU's. ITB, use Honda OBD-1 ECU, I am building a harness over the next few weeks for a 4age 16v in an ae92. As the Honda ECU is tunable its a cheap mans aftermarket ecu. Plus its not that hard to do. Plenty of room for ITB's. Why not just swap in a 20v? All that high RPM goodness. May i ask what car cause the engine bay doesnt look like an 86?
  10. I do understand his idea tho. 6am start and lack of sleep night before makes the 18km drive to work seem like a wrc stage.
  11. Cause you enjoy how the firmer setup effects the mass of your partners chest?
  12. Have you replaced the stock suspenion rubber with UT? That firms it up too.
  13. Well thats going to make a difference. Going from the stock bar to a fixed whiteline makes a big difference I have found.
  14. My 82 is running MRP Coil overs with 8k front 6kg rear, Found the car handled OK it wasnt until i got the rest of the suspension upgraded with the sway bars, camber toe etc done that it brought out the best in the setup. I was also looking at heavier springs but didnt realize how much the rest of the setup helps the package. I dont mind the harshness of the ride, sort of enjoy it. I have been told that 6/4 is a much better street setup with the ability to put it on the track every once and a while. I know that doesnt help too much as i only have the FWD version but it may help you a little.
  15. Have bitten the bullet and purchased a set of 70mm Trumpets from T3, good deal inc shipping $220nzd.
  16. I will be running trumpets. At this stage just finding the ones I want and what length. The current setup is running the stock airbox just no plastic trumpets. When i go for my idea i am going to use trumpets. As far as ecu goes looking at a set of cams from Japan which come with a tuned ecu. Read some good reviews on it and it comes out to about $400nz plus shipping. this is the current airbox (have removed top cover) Uploaded with ImageShack.com
  17. The engine was dyno'd by the previous owner. It came from an ae101 gt apex which I purchased as a parts car after a nasty rear accident. He did show me the results as part of the deal. The guy lived in howick up in Auckland. I was hoping the airbox would give some positive effects. I have a spare bonnett so was going to give it a try this week. When i did the swap i removed the plastic trumpets and it seems to have improved topend a fair bit.
  18. Have yet to buy them and decide on a length. will run trumpets when i build the new airbox. 100KW is with the new headgasket, bt cam, exhaust and ecu. Looking at a set of kelford cams. Goal is 120kw.
  19. I am running a mandrel bent 2.5inch system with a resenator where the cat once was and a trd style sports muffler. Got it built by a guy called clint. Sounds amazing. Not ricey like other systems. A nice sports sound until 3/4 throttle then all hell brakes loose and it sounds much deeper. By 7,000rpm its a bit loud inside the car and a little annoying at 8,000 but around town it doesn't draw police attention. Originally was going to put an rps fart cannon on it but am glad i didn't
  20. The st currently runs a the stock airbox with the plastic trumpets removed and a pod filter bolted up to it. Made a tad over 100KW which is disappointing. Why would it loose power? Would it not work the same as a ram air intake as its breathing cold air not warm engine bay air?
  21. Good point RE water, maybe a few little holes in the bottom then.
  22. So the AE82 lives again after a small issue with the fuel system, but time to move on. The idea I have with the air box is take the top half of the stock ST box off, build a custom top half that mates with the bonnet using a rubber sealer (??) so it seals tight. Have a STI style vent directly above it feeding it cool air. Have a filter mesh on the vent and run open trumpets of between 70mm and 100mm. Would that work? Any potential downfalls of this plan?
  23. How do i remove the fuzz from the roof after I removed the liner.
