It definitely wasn't a Honda alternator, I can't remember what it was from, pretty sure Cressida or Corolla from my stash, but the alternator itself worked mint. The problem we had was the pulley, it was supposed to run dual V belts but we boogied up a single Lucas pulley coz it's all we had and it suffered constant belt slip and totally sucked. I had thought Keegan had solved it but I guess not.

Unless of course he replaced the alternator again later, in which case never mind.

I can't remember the details exactly, but I do remember Keegan saying the alternator had been pulled out a of a Cressida. It had a good voltage reading across it at idle but it wasn't cooling and couldn't output under load. I did a lot of dicking around with belts back when I got it before coming to the conclusion that it wasn't belt slip. It died about 3 times on the drive up from Te Awamutu on the day I got it. I wound up driving back to Auckland and borrowing the biggest battery I could find to get it home.

Edit:  Found your original thread here.

It seems to have a handful of electrical gremlins which I'm hoping to straighten out with the 1UZ install.

  2. Thread dredge.

After sitting in the garage for two years, I just got this sorted.

The alternator was a Honda one - and Hondas spin the opposite way to Toyotas. The new regulator had accounted for this, but not for the fact that the internal fan blades were orientated the wrong way around and so not cooling the alternator. Was cooking it.

New alternator and I've put about 500km of round town driving in without an issue.

  3. Whoops - Haven't done this yet...

    Name (first is sweet): Beau
    Location: Auckland
    Cars you own: Crown MS110
Mods to them (can be brief or detailed): See Japawagon's build thread...
How you found out about oldschool: Friends
Anything else you want to add: Pretty noob, but I'm starting to figure shit out.

  4. Does anyone happen to know if the M Series engines have compatible headers within the series or possibly out?

I'm looking at upgrading on my M-EU but it is proving pretty hard to find much info. I know Celicas and Mark IIs used them for a minute but I can't seem to get much depth of knowledge.

  5. Do you mean when it was turned into a hearse or when they took the madness off the back?

Standard, hearsed or utererised, it isn't a desirable car so why the murder?

The American town car was modified in Japan to be used as a Buddhist Shinto hearse in royal family members’ and government official’s funerals. - See more at: http://sunlive.co.nz/news/33842-dragonaround-town.html#sthash.j0T8szKL.dpuf

That hearse was the real deal, and now that it has been shredded in can never be put back together without losing that magic. You could chop any Lincoln you like into a pick-up. It'd be like turning a mint 2000GT into a camo painted drift hack with a skyline body kit.

  6. Did you buy Keegans Crown?

If so, it actually has the wrong pulley on it. It was missing the alternator when I got it so we attached a MX73 alternator and lathed down a random pulley to fit. It should be running dual V belts, but it only has a single on it now, which may or may not be running 100% true. Never had an issue with it though and it clicked up a fair few KM

Yup that was me, been lurking here a while now haha.

Had some dramas with the belt on the drive from T.A. and replaced it once I got home. Tension seems good and I've run her around town quite a bit, but after more than 30 minutes on the road the dash warning signs go on and the lights all go dim. Hasn't gone out on me yet but makes me nervous to go beyond the Bombays.

    Really oughta make a thread...
