Is it just me or doesnt that sound massive for an NA 1600,  2 5/8" or 3" ?

Are you doing mandrel bent or normal rolled bends?

Ideally I’d be doing a single 2.5” but that would hang too low for my liking. I also want to make it from stainless tube with mandrel bends so that slightly limits the sizes available as well.
A dual 1.5” system would be too small I think. Next size up would be 2”, which would be too small as a single system.
Having it set up for a built engine sounds good as well, if that route ever happens

  2. Would a dual 2" exhaust on a fairly standard 4age blacktop be alright? From my calculations the area should be somewhere right between having either a single 2 5/8" or 3" exhaust.
Trying for max ground clearance and anything bigger than 2" will require a lot more of the floor to be cut up. Will have 1.5" 4-1 hi-rise headers.

    @kpr?

Im liking the progress and where this project is heading.

when you swap the lsd diff centre over could you do a bit of a story on that as interested to see how that goes

    Cheers!

It’s most likely going to be done at a diff shop, but I’ll try and get as much info as I can

  4. The VH41de in my pickup has had an issue for a little while, where it will idle somewhere around 1000-1200rpm, it’s like it stays on cold start or the throttle is sticky. Seems to do it more often if doing lots of shorter trips. It doesn’t drop down until you turn it off and back on, then sits somewhere around 5-600 rpm. I don’t think it’s transmission related as it’s on it’s third trans and has done it for all of them. That’s another issue that need sorting.
I have checked most of the sensors and the voltage readings seem about right to the manual. Anything else I could check?

So good to see it out getting used.

Do those transmissions have a kick down cable or is it all electronic?

All electronic. Have tested the readings on all the sensors and everything seems to be reading right as per the manual. When checking the engine codes it comes up with secondary throttle sensor, but I’m pretty certain that’s what controls the traction control, and it doesn’t have anything to do with the trans, so should be fine being de-pinned from the ecu.

Its possible it’s just been two bad transmissions to start with!

Is performance important? I think a single 3" is far too small for an LS1, but it'll be OK if it's just a cruiser. AdrenalinR make the best mufflers, but if you can wait for USA shipping, Vibrant is a good option.

I don’t think performance is that important. He did say it was somewhere around 150kw or something haha

Have looked at a few mufflers but they’re all really expensive for something that looks alright or just looks terrible for cheaper. So really contemplating making my own like I usually do!

  7. Hey guys, I have an exhaust that I need to  build for a early LS1 5.0 I think it is. It needs to have a y-pipe off the headers for it to go into to a single exhaust. What size should it be after the y-pipe? 3” plenty big enough? I assume a single resonator and then a straight through styled muffler at the back would be best. Any recommendations on a decent resonator and muffler to use? Don’t want it too loud but can still be a bit noisy.

    Cheers
