Has anyone in Auckland got a flat puller that would be suitable to get the flywheel off this? Need it asap! Can pick up tonight and compensate. Cheers, Andrew edit: Like this -

Will have a chat to Mini Bitz about a straight cut set tomorrow, would be a good way to go though! -

Yeah Repco and Supercheap have a surprising amount of parts for these. Remember the engine is the same as a Mini so ask for parts for one of them too. Repco had 4 different kinds of head gaskets ranging from $80 to $25 Also not sure what there is here but in Chch there was a place called Butler Automart which had an old bloke there who knew the part number for A Series engine mounts etc without looking it up and had heaps of new old stock. -

Had another go at this today with Dad who's in Auckland for 'work' for a few days. Carbs were a bit funny, they're better now just need a good tune. Loosely corrected the gaps on the tappets which bought the compression up a bit to a better (still slightly low) level. Now the engine runs good, we even drove it down the street. Has low oil pressure and the idler gears/something are very rattly. We're thinking that something has worn through where it shouldn't and because these share oil with gearbox and engine it's bringing the whole pressure down. Tomorrow I'm going to try and whip the idler gear casing off in the car. Has anyone done this? Not much room but should be doable. Then go on a mission to Mini Bitz and Zebra to raid their Minis for parts. -
Need to borrow one of these to check some things.. Next week on Thursday for a couple of days. Has anyone got something that would work? Will compensate accordingly. Cheers, Andrew

Following on from this has anyone got a flywheel puller for a mini (a series engine) that I could borrow on the 12th/13th of February? Cheers -
Haha this car. You bought it off my mate. Here's a video of it at MCM last year. http://instagram.com/p/jlENcGh-Y6/?modal=true Good luck man.

Anyway... I'm stuck. Swapped head gasket. Started up great, idled fine, went to rev it and.. it just bogged down and wouldn't pick up again. Started it again, just and it died straight away. Nothing after that, won't start well and if it does won't idle. It has spark from the coil, has fuel in the carbs and flowing from the pump. I have no idea what's wrong. I do only have a limited amount of knowledge though so could be something simple! So, any BMC weirdos in Auckland want to give me a hand? It's hard when you don't have a car in a new city. Beers provided - I just really need to get this going or at least somewhere else to look into. -

Cheers for that. Will be useful in the future for sure! Ended up getting one from Repco for $24 -

It arrived! Several days earlier than quoted. The towie drove it onto the truck even though he was told not to... But seems ok other than that. Thanks to James (Corbie) and his compression tester I have come to the conclusion of BHG. The outer two cylinders had good compression 120+ and the center two around 40. I think this happened when the car got a tad too hot for too long through Marlborough. Hopefully this is all that's wrong with it, and the other noises were just in my head Going to swap it over soon - done it enough times now haha. -

Thanks for all the offers guys, this is why I love os. Yeah I've done the basic checks. I'm pretty sure the drop gear went as I was coming into Picton (AA dropped it off this morning) and then it lost oil pressure and is struggling to stay running now. Two things that i wouldn't imagine relate to each other. If you are heading out there tonight that'd be ideal. Wanting to sort this asap, bus lyf sucks -
Trying to figure out why my cars not going, starting with the basics so has anyone got a compression tester I can borrow? Beers provided. I'm in Botany but can potentially travel to pick up. Cheers, Andrew

Is anyone from Botany / Dannemora way heading out to this on Friday (two seats, one for me and the lady)? New to town and keen to get involved. Broke the car on the way up from Chch though... -

Sure is, would recommend it to anyone doing a long trip with a British car. Public holiday in Wellington tomorrow so nothing will happen with the car until Tuesday... -

Thanks guys and you're right Glenn. So many GCs. Yup I'm on AA Plus. They're paying for a flight tomorrow and storage/transport of the car to Auckland. Pretty simple to arrange really. -

.... I'll see it and all my possessions in 5-10 working days. Had this sweet photo taken in North Canterbury before the troubles hit though. IMG_3532 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr and this one - anticipating the pass. IMG_3534 by GuyWithAviators, on Flickr -

Would be good to catch up mtbtimr! I'm studying commercial photography at UCOL. No I planned to make it a bit of a roadtrip over a few days to see the sights. But looks like the AA Tow truck will get me there quicker. Limped it onto the ferry with hardly any drive or oil pressure, think the drop gears have gone. They were a bit rattly when i left this morning. I'll have a proper look when I get to Wellington. Good thing I have AA Plus ... Not too happy -
