  1. ok extractors fitted engine bay Discussion thread: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=31660
  2. http://youtu.be/Cqq1OBSPrNg http://youtu.be/gDRQpDOXn3k
  3. it increases in freqency with revs, so is some thing t do with the engine, it can be cold or hot, it doesnt increase or decrease in volume, i'll go take a vid, and post it
  4. hey guys im at a bit of a stumbling block, my velox has developed a bit of a tap, i initially thought valve clearances, so i did them, all were pretty much sweet, one a little tight, one a bit loose, no change to the tapping, took it to a mechanic, they seemed to think it was the hole in the exhaust (where the header joins the exhaust proper) so i changed the header to a set of extractors, no change, now this is something new, not just a thing with these engines when i first bought the car it was whisper quiet, on one long trip the exhaust gasket went, and after that was fixed it had the tapping since, what do you guys think??
  5. considered running on 91? they are pretty low compression engines and i didnt notice any ill effects on mine, not that you'll get any better mpg, may be a carb strip nd clean, new set of plugs, point sand condenser might be the call,
  6. my guess would be flames, and oil, they say it was capable of doing over 100 mile an hour, but im scared at 70
  7. arhh i see, i don't really want height adjustable shocks, the mx5 in standard guise is low enough, i feel like i have to fall into it as it is
  8. re new head deck, as with any radio etc, the get a signal radio tape etc, then its fed into the amplifier, which boosts the palty, 0.1w up to 3 or 4 watts (or more depending on age) all you have to do is interrupt the signal between the original source and the inbuilt amp, i normally put a switch in to turn off the radio/tape signal, and always have the aux connected, if you want to play the radio, flick the switch and it will play, so will the aux if its connected though
  9. ok some inside pics green is good orange is better and she turns red at 60 mph
  10. ok here are the pics dent below drivers door on sill below passengers door on sill underneath, oil leak from rocker cover surface rust on chassis surface rust on bonet etc spare tyre dodgy wiring deck inside hilux bumper bodgery compression test, from the front to the back start up video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y4RgiYZr6U
  11. if there was a "like" or thumbs up button, i'd be pressing it, thanks guys
  12. http://www.americarna.com/Events/Americ ... naki-2012/ i dunno if any of you guys are keen, if you are, and need a room, a bit of floor for a sleeping bag, or a bit of grass for a tent, then let me know, i have a spare room with a double bed, an empty room with a couple of thermo rests and a lounge floor, plus a bit of grass and enough off street parking for 4 or 5 cars in a safe area of new plymouth.
  13. it runs exactly the same engine as the cresta, they both came as 2.65l or 3.3l engines in 63 and 64 both had 3 on the tree, half way through 64 they bought out the 4 speed box, the pos - neg earth is popular to all old cars, try finding a pos earth stereo these days, thats generally the reason for the conversion, all you had to do was spin the battery, short out the generator and coil, and that got you moving again, as for the rest, i guess the fans etc all became a "i'll do it later" job... which inevitably never got done. i'll grab some more photos to morrow, extractors to be fitted on wednesday, after that, i'll rip out the dash ect for the wiring fix up, and prep for the new guages, stereo etc and strip the old laquar of the walnut dash, and take some patterns in case i decide to make a replacement native dash
  14. let me know the address etc, and i'll go and have a look, do you want me to do compression test etc?? is it this one? http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-ca ... 746377.htm do you want me to give the guy a ring and organise a time
  15. hi guys, i was wondering if some one was willing to pick up some bits for me in prebbleton, the guy i won an auction from won't put them in a box and allow a courier to pick up, at this stage he won't even give me his bank account to pay him, so if some as willing to help me out, i'd have to put money into your account, i'll happily pay gas money on top may be even a few beer tokens many thanks logan
  16. ok what about this in 98/99 (first of the nb shape) Sport suspension with Bilstein shocks was a factory option, could i then put in adjustables saying they are a direct replacement for the blitzens that were stuffed?? i know when i reg'd a 68 falcon (au import) the guy wasn't happy with the brake booster, until i showed him a print out from the options book that said that a booster was an option,
  17. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-MX5-NB- ... 1e6a5c95cc or if you have an na http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MAZDA-MX5-NA- ... 1e68c1fb2c
  18. a guy on the delica forum (uses same motor) did a 3.8 v6 conversion to his van. bugger if i know how he managed to fit it in the van, i had enough trouble getting the standard diesel motor back in, not that you'd have that trouble in the ute, there is a crowd in the tron who make custom bell housing adapters mainly for old cars to use the celica 5 speed, but he'll make any thing,
  19. what are sleeves and springs??? i don't want to make the car any lower, its just that i can get a full set of coil overs out of the germany, for about the price of decent rear shocks, thats bull shit that it has to be cert'd if they are adjustable, i don't have cert my motorbikes with adjustable suspension, you'd think that the wof people would want people to have the best suspension possible, not crapped out old shocks instead
  20. ok im a retard when it comes to all this modern suspension, i generaly always have cars with leaf springs, tortion bars, or mcpherson shocks, any way the mrs mx5 needs new shocks, i can get the shocks them selves, compress the springs etc and replace the old shocks, or i can get coil overs, do these go inside the existing spring, or are they a complete replacement for the old spring and shock, oh also if they are preload adjustable do they have to be cert'd ?? (don't really want to go down that route if i can avoid it) cheers logan
  21. well i thought i'd start a thread for prosperity sake, pics first this is a day or say after i bought it, its the smaller 2.6l (161c.i.) straight 6, with a 4 speed bedford box, and triumph tc2000 front seats instead of the bench havn't really done much as yet, new oil, filter, rear shocks, and universal joint, shocks were the first, made a huge difference, and a couple of days later had to do the universal joint as it shit itself, then a couple of days after that, i had to replace the points and condensor and new battery, as it was back firing and playing merry hell, oh i had to rebuild the generator (old school dc genny not alternator) have got a set of extractors on the way, should be here wednesday next week, (my header has a small hole next to where the header joins the pipe, so keeps eating gaskets, my plans for the car are, guages, - oil pressure, water temp, volts, and rev counter, stereo - unsure what i'll do, either try and find a really really old one, and mod an input for mp3 player, or just buy a new one, wiring - originally it was a positive earth, but has been partially converted to neg earth, but a few things run backwards, heater sucks instead of blows, window wipers stop in wrong place (running backwards) fix internal light, sway bar - mine is bent and bushes are shagged power steering - there was an option to have power steering from the factory, mine doesnt have it,and i want it!!! brake booster - could do with one wheels - i like the white walls and the hub caps, so i'll probably stick with that, but would like some slightly wider tyres on the back, wether that means new rims, or altering the originals, who knows as yet dash - walnut dash laquar is flaking/peeling, need to strip and redo, im almost tempted to replace the walnut with some rimu i have kicking about, a bit of kiwi in the old english dog think thats it, will post pics as it happens
  22. where do you get those t pieces ??
  23. nah my motor isn't a cross flow motor, as it stands the intake is bolted to the exhaust anyway so the intake gets bloody hot, burn the skin off your fingers hot i have a set of extractors to fit, but was curious about going the triple carb route, probably cv side drafts, i have a few sets kicking about from bikes
  24. just curious really, could they be made out of stainless, or is the aluminium used for its heat tranferring properties, and stainless would get too hot??
  25. if i could find a 3.3 motor id chuck that in, in a heart beat, but i have no idea wher i would source an old motor, the motor thats in it is fine at the moment, just seeing if it were possible to do it, with out doing the cert, cheers for your help guys much appreciated
