  1. Had this thing out in the weekend, going into storage for a few months until i tidy up some other projects i have on the radar. Be back in use come summer
  2. Funny you say that, i was thinking it didn't look factory. Managed to get 1/2 turn out of the bolt last night and seems to have fixed the oil leak, will be checking again tonight, amazing how far oil can travel to make a mess. Short of that, ill be removing it if it still plays up
  3. Once all this was complete assembled and then took it for its first drive in a couple months, has new wheels on it which are subtle different Got home, had a yarn to the old neighbor about his glory days in these and rovers as it was idling, and then backed it into shed, quick look underneath, Was not happy to find this Had a look around and was oil around the back of the block where it meets the sandwhich plate and oil appears to have run down the gearbox as this was clean when i installed it Had a decent look around top of the motor and theres a banjo at the back of the head that seems to have oil behind it, gave it a quick wiggle as by this stage was getting on late in the night, wouldnt move, so im going to remove tonight and replace copper washers as i cant see it being anything else, rocker gasket was also replaced at same time as the above Fingers crossed this solves the issue
  4. Been chipping away on this, biggest delay has been part leadtimes Made a bush press and swapped out the bushes, also done main subframe bushes while i was there. Fully spray undercoated the underside while it was up on jack stands
  5. Not long after the above post i purchased a house so drove the car through to Central for what was supposed to be a few months until i built my shed. Approx 12months later it returned Took it for a wof, put on my new wheels (pics to come, due to the below it was only on the road one day) Turns out the rear main seal decided it didnt want to be a seal anymore and started leaking more than a British Car should Gearbox was a mess Cleaned up alright Appears to be the problem Took the sump off as thought ill do the gasket while im in there, found a lovely surprise This also cleaned up pretty good Taking out the whole rear end to do all the bushes and will underseal while everything is out. Reassemble and new exhaust just in time for summer hopefully!
  6. Grandad is also tidying up another MK1, he's got a planned head etc to go on it. Started the original motor for the first time in 20 years yesterday He is driving this PI he has had since new, we are having trouble with it at idle and around town at low speeds, on the open road runs perfectly. If anyone wants a copy of the books, PM me and I'll scan them in a PDF Theres a TR6, another Mk1 and some old Triumph bikes I'll get some photos over summer of aswell If anyone has any extractors/ headers for a 2.5 let me know, also on the hunt for a wagon to add to the collection.
  7. Start of winter was driving along the one way in town and looked out the rear view mirror to a trail of oil followed by an oil light The rubber o ring on the filter gave way, blew most of its oil out. Luckily I was quick on it and flicked it off. Changed the bumpers over to the early shape ones with no rubber strip
  8. Finally got it all painted back up again. Had a 21st at our flat in the weekend so cleared out the garage with my hunting quad on trailer. Towed it real good over to the yard at work Also acquired a boss kit and put in a Nardi i brought about 4 years ago
  9. Making abit of progress on this, got a spare door but turned out the original wasnt to bad with abit of lovin from a hammer Also picked up a set of globe wheels in 14x6 Have these aswell in 14x6 Unsure which ones to go for, going to throw 195/50s or similar onto a set to lower it abit more. Leaning more towards the globes to keep it looking more original
  10. Yesterday was not a good day at all...... Got abit to close to something and came a cropper
  11. Had the old girl off the road for a couple of years while iv sorted out sheds etc so about June i got stuck into this thing. Tidied it up and got a wof first pop. The water pump blew out after a few small trips around the region so i replaced that with a new one for $120 freighted to my door which was pretty good in my opinion. That was fine until i started noticing the water was going somewhere with no trace anywhere, eventually i lifted the passenger mat to find it chocker with green anti freeze as the heater core had given up. Took the entire dash out and got the end tank soldered and back together on Thursday night. Took it up to Mehtven in the weekend and stopped in at the Waimate 50. I can highly recommend this event, one of the best iv ever been to. 950km over the weekend and never missed a beat. Anyone who has lowered one of these knows the comfort of the bumpstops
  12. Id be keen to get together somewhere for a meet or something
  13. First of all, your wagon looks ace, you've done a top job on it! Iv got a sedan tc and hopefully a PI soon all going well, im looking at getting some 15x8 -9 offset performance challanger wheels for my car. From what i can see the front should be bang on even though these will be a wee bit negative, whats it like in the rear? Is it rubbing or close to it?
  14. Entered a Grasskana with the Otago Sports Car Club as i wanted to give it a go and finished 12th out of 20 which i thought was good for a lowered rwd car in a paddock against a number of proper race car Also i acquired this Cost me not alot with a good LSD which ill be converting to 4.11 ratio. Its a manual 323i, dead rego but its a better base than my previous cars
