  1. Yeah based on this event being 10 fold more epic if you northerners come down i reckon it will have to be separate from the datsun one. ANd like you said im sure alot of the datsun crew ( esp the guys who came up to nats because they know how epic you guys are) will drive back to Hanmer again. I reckon there will be a decent crew from North Island up for this. Then the tip of the South Island crew plus the Dunners lads combined with the Locals will make for epic party times!

  4. part of the deal with them building that supermarket was that they had to make that under ground carpark big enough for all the shops in the inter section, so they cant say shit really

  5. There are no keys lol. And yes, will try stay in contact while in Japan, planning to set up a page on facebook, so we can just update that with photos, posts etc, rather than all three of use trying to update individually, particularly with dodgy/no internet in some areas we are going.. We have a heap of auto related stuff we are going to do as well, fizzing about it! Drift Matsuri, Motorfix, RWB, Daikuku(?), street missions with the locals, driving an old van across the states, Belgium/Spa F1 GP, Nurburgring, Autobahns, checking out GT racecar work shop that a chch boy is working for in England etc..

  6. I've got one of those kick start setups floating around, could be the answer if I directly link the engines. Anyhoo Need some new belts now Anyone know where I can get some 6~mm OD copper pipe in Wellington? I want to use some to tidy up my fuel lines, might try the brew shop in Newtown

  8. You should only need 2 relays to make the motor run. Maybe 3 if you want to switch the starter through a relay rather than the ignition switch. One for power to the injectors, ignitors and sensors and the other to power the fuel pump. Yes the ECU will have a constant power supply. It will probably be in the missing cabin plug. EFI is usually referred to as the injectors and that side of things but you can power everything off it to save using heaps of relays. Use one of the big factory ones. The fuel pump needs a separate relay because the ECU needs to turn it off if the engine stops (like in a crash). For the missing cabin plug just de pin another plug from a wrecker with the same pins and solder a wire to them and poke them on the terminals. I put a bit of heat shrink on the ends and then when they are all on cable tie them to the neighbour wires to hold them all in place. If they are a bit loose sliding onto the pins slightly crimp them to give them more grip.

  10. Chripssss - is this going to be a seperate event from the Datsun one? I see they have already locked in the 3rd and 4th August for their one? I don't mind if we go with them or just make it a seperate one (TBH a lot of the Datsun crew would do both anyway cos they are GC's and hard as nails..) I just want to hang out with you and milk your spew gland again...

  15. So while the shell was away getting the interior, engine bay and underneath painted, I took advantage of all my parts being out of the car and had a bunch sand blasted. After getting them back I metal prepped them, ready for POR 15, and then went to town painting basically all my running gear parts with POR 15. I used the chance to modify a couple of things I wasnt completely happy with as well, mainly my lower control arms. They were well made, but had been built with fitting wheels under factory guards in mind. And now that the rear track had increased due to the 25mm spacers to run the brakes, I needed to increase the front track to make sure it is wider than the rear. So Surfab cut the arms in two, just to the outside of where the castor arm mounts, and then added in a 30mm section. By adding it to the outside of that point, you dont mess with the castor, or the pick up points for the sway bar.

  16. Right, the battery is dead so I need a new one. I'm fairly certain this was an Exide battery that I peeled the stickers off. I bought it from Williams and Adams way back when they were trading. Does anyone recognise it and know who stocks something that looks the same? I'll start asking dealers on Friday I guess, so don't go to too much effort to answer I'll sort the rocker cover too of course

  18. PART III - WAIHEKE Thursday to Sunday Wake up, tell my lovely that the car has been sweet and it will be fine to take to Waiheke for 4 days. I leave my tools and oil in the boot and hope for the best. Loaded up again this time with family stuff we head to Half Moon Bay and onto the ferry. Bit too close to the salty acid of the sea for my liking! We were there for 4 days, a wedding on the Friday and then 3 days doing whatever. PLenty of people looking and asking about the car. no surf on the Rock either and found a great place for some olive oil as well: MAde it home fine Sunday Night, mrs and boy thought it went great, and it did, so stoked. Drove it to work Monday (cbf moving all the other cars around and to give it a wash on the way home) and its finally back in bed in the man cave. Aftermath Obviously a vigourous thashing or two and a week of daily driving has dicovered unknown weak points in the car, and highlighted some old ones. - Oil leaks - I will probably strip down the original engine and refresh the gaskets and pop that in to do the same to this one once its pulled out. The end main seal has always been a problem but now its gushing. The high pressure oil blow out in Vinegar Hill was countered by the opposite problem, a oil pressure warning light on moment just as i was coming into muriwai (probably due to low oil level from leaking) dunno i havnt looked. - Diff - has started to make noise and shunt when on overrun. I think ive probably killed it. Ive a spare so ill just swap the nose over. - Sideys - stupid bloody things. I wish people would do what I ask/what they say they will. Wasted a heap of time swappping them back on and a heap of gas finding that the problem has not been fixed or even found. Thogh they do idle much better. - Wheel bolts - on a similar note, need to sort these out ptoperly but should not have this problem if people did their actual jobs properly. - Radiator thermoswitch - put my low temp one in so the fan turns on when needed. - Exhaust - take it in to stock the knocking on the driveshaft/make more fiaty rasp in the process of fixing it. Again a job i paid a business whos business is pretty much only exhausts for that is just not properly done. - Wheel lock - increase so i can turn right without doing 3 point turns, left hand lock is much better - Hand brake - adjust so it works - LH front indicator - sort dodgy connection - Windows - 3 of 4 wind themselves down about 10mm from driving vibration, need to tighten the wires, but thats a door lining out job. - Ride height - car handles really well but i cant help but think its too nose high/reverse rake The sill is actually level (unloaded) but loaded up the rear goes lower, and the cars design exacerbates this impression. There are two options - raise the rear or lower the front. The first is easy (raise the shackle bolts up to the original holes) and will maintain the handling, or lower the front more which is more difficult, and will reduce the handling but more visually pleasing. A dillema indeed. Anyways, plenty of work after all that fun.

  19. So I better come back and make a contribution to the forum.... Been putting of swapping these diffs over due to other comittments. Was underneath checking all of the fluid levels and noticed once of the swivel hubs was leaking BROWN oil. Knew what this meant so whipped off the drain bolt and out poured a whole lot of water from the swivel casing, This was something to press me to action. Drove it into the shed and promptly began stripping the front drive member down... And now I have a whole lot of grubby bits on my bench... You can see on this halfshaft UJ the brown, oil which has been sitting in water. So, everything is essentially going to be replaced, both of the halfshaft bearings were quite badly pitted. Its all relatively straight forward and after ringing around for some quotes it is still cheaper ordering from the UK (inc shipping)

  21. So wasnt gunna put this up until Id seen what the end result came out like but its way to cool not to share Had to make up some custom arms to mount the rear shocks so came up with the hair brained idea of casting them out of aluminium Still have no idea if this well work or not but youll never know if you dont try aye Made up a blank out of wood and bog, many hours of sanding later But the real reason im prematurely posting this up is my furnace , I fired it up before and it cranks Made from shit laying around the farm , old clothes dryer, corrogated iron lining and race metal for the insulation and a but of stainless tube for an air pipe Lit it using wood then added coal, was using mrs's hair to blow into and it worked real well for about 10mins till it blew up, oops! Then just chucked the air compressor hose up the end of it and that was sweet but could nowhere near keep up so now im stuck with having to come up with some sort fan/blower to run it Got a big fruit salad/baked bean can for a crucipble (spelt right?) and chucked some old cans and bits of scrap in it and worked sweet as Just gotta round up some casting sand/something suitable to make the mould and I can give it go

  22. Yea lock me in as interested Crips, whatever date it is. Would be sweet if i could get cheap flights like Spencer said, but I'm keen regardless. Undecided if the 2 door will be in attendance this time though, as it would need a few repairs done first. I might just roll with someone else.

  25. Had a good trip to pickapart last week which scored me a new 4 pinion LSD diff from a surf and some $16 linglongs to try on the pair of rims I polished. The new diff is a 4.1 so dropped the ratio slightly from 4.3 but it will be sweet when I go down a tyre profile or 2. Gave the gearbox and diff new oil when I swapped the diff heads, looks like it was the original oil from 1986 the drivetrain is much quieter now. Had a go at sealing the rims together but failed so will have to strip them and apply more silicone I think. 205/65 linglong balloons look yuck but meh they were dirt cheap and I can kill them with the 1G once its running Got the 1GGE re assembled and ready for a test fit to see if theres going to be any problems, sump fouling the drag link will be the major one. This is the current project attempting to make the wiring work, if I suck/fail will just send it to NicTfor him to sort

  28. today Spencer gave me a hand to get the plug leads through the pipe and that went pretty well. a bit of lube down the pipe and they slid through pretty easily. after that Nick the sparky came over and we cut the leads to length and he re-crimped the ends on. we then put some fuel in the carbs and it ran. sounds really good and seems to be going nicely. needs tuning obviously but its running. that is all.
