  1. today Spencer gave me a hand to get the plug leads through the pipe and that went pretty well. a bit of lube down the pipe and they slid through pretty easily. after that Nick the sparky came over and we cut the leads to length and he re-crimped the ends on. we then put some fuel in the carbs and it ran. sounds really good and seems to be going nicely. needs tuning obviously but its running. that is all.

  3. Need to do something wheel wise. The fake whitewalls look scruffy.. and its kinda impossible to get it off without damaging the tyres. So i'd either have to get new tyres or whitewall them again. These showed up down here for reasonably cheap so I picked em up (dont get much in the way of trademe listings for wheels down here). Yeah they are hotwires...boo hoo, add it to the list of wierd stuff I have done to the car. But im certainly not set on them, and if I had known what I know now I wouldn't have gone 14x8. Anyway I need to sort out tyres if I do decide to use them. Picked them up...they needed some serious tidy up. Eagers on the rears for maximum lols Painted and did a rough polish job. Trial fit. So yeah, I think they would be an improvement, despite not being deep dish JDM spec. Not really ken to spend thousands on that kinda thing though Back wheels look a bit small on the wag though. Could be just the fact that they are 14s but I know that i'd atleast have to run meatier tyres.

  4. I get asked how to do this all the time. So heres a pic and description of how to do it. Welding to a casting or forging has always been illegal as a modification as long as the LVV cert system has been around. The instructions that come with most aftermarket weld together coil overs say to weld the tube directly to the cast hub. fail. DISCLAIMER This is how I recommend it is done, other certifiers may have different ideas and if you have got yours certed with it stuck together with a hot glue gun then yay for you

  5. Nationals 2013 was fucking epic! The Hunter did so well & didn't give me any issues Despite its major rake spec ride height It got many positive comments. Here's a few pics stolen from various sources Corbie pulling gang signs Grass khana with Fruit_Luke Max drift action with full car load (Karl, fruit luke & greg) Now the sad part I may have told some of you that a chap offered me a considerable amount of money for this old girl just before nats. I turned him down as I really wanted to take it up north. The day after I got home he called me saying he still wanted it. With a very heavy heart I decided to take his offer. (i know it was a sweet wagon & I probably will regret selling it) Very sad to see it go. One last pic to remember it by:

  6. I have found a couple sweet stock VW bug resto's over the years, but these two blow me away. This dude rebuilt his 60' from this to this the detail is impressive. the inside thread here http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=463218&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 55 pages! But this guy take the fucking cake, his thread is up to 32 page's and he isn't never half way. He must have OCD or something http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=369883&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 when he restored the old valve radio, the even milled a stamp to stick on the side just for fun.

Im heading down there in a few weeks if you need anything looking at/car bringing to chch etc Im sure you will get talking about tweed bikes with him, he has a pretty sweet collection.

  11. If you can do a rough sketch of what it looks like with some dimensions on it I can make a CAD model of it for you if you want mate. You can then send that CAD file to a place that does CNC or water cutting.

  12. Get 'er done man! I want to see this car more often . Also, who cares about having it completely finished... You don't need trim or interior to have fun. And also, can you throw up some raw trackday footage?

Fuck yeah this will be good. Sam- ask Willdat if he is keen on taking a seat. We must try get Dave along too!

  14. Drilling holes and shifting mounting points sounds exactly like modifying the structure to me. Make some adaptor plates to mount to original mounting points or get a cert.

  15. This is some next level shiz here! Looking lush! Great idea with the faux lugs. You will need an inch pitch chain/chain wheel to get this looking right. Please do this!

  17. I've done some more on this lately. The front half of the frame is all welded, I've sweated the chainstays out of another old frame, cut the dropouts off and made my own. I have also started cutting and shutting a number of seat stays to make one long enough for the frame. When this is all done I want it to look like it is a lugged frame rather than the butt welded frame it is. The seat post lug is one I saved off an old frame, sadly it is the only one with angles I could use. All the other "Lugs" are sleeves of tube notched to fit. I'll tig the front of them and then braze around the back when I'm done welding. Hopefuly it will look the part when It's done. Thanks for looking.

  19. [tl;dr warning]- heaps of words, no pictures, no actual work done rambling update This has pretty much just been sitting in the shed for ages, with nothing done - I've been a bit over it to be honest. I dont know if it's just me, but having a car project is like just getting kicked while you're down, financially and otherwise over and over with no end in sight. Kinda wished I just spent the money travelling or something, but I guess I've at least got something to show for it. So I've just been enjoying other things over the summer, such as company of friends, a bit of photography, the outdoors, and other things which dont involve bashing my knuckles and swearing at an old car for seemingly no reward. However! After just attending the OS nats without an OS car, it certainly gets me back on track motivation wise, and keen to get this thing over the finish line. Both figuratively and literally, I cant wait to get out there for a trackday now, especially an oldschool event. Although I was glad to have something to do rather than twiddling my thumbs, filming stuff doesnt nearly compare to getting out there on the track! One thing that I have managed to do, is fix the exhaust so it's got heaps more clearance. I had to remove the middle muffler to do so, so it's only running the rear one and is a bit raspy and loud for my liking. But at least it can drive without scraping on everything. Also changed back to an Altezza radiator, and standard air filter box, and re-relocated the relocated oil filter. I've been searching for rear lower window trim for pretty much years, and have now resigned to the fact that I'm just going to have to use the crappy ones I've got. It's a bit of a shame to have really nice paint and crappy looking trim, but I've given up on trying to make this thing look nice now, I just want to get some enjoyment from driving it. Especially since managed to scrape the paint on the rear quarter panel on one side while it was in the garage, a bit dissapointing to spend heaps of time and money on repaint and then have it damaged before it's even left the garage. The interior is pretty crappy as well, so I dont think it will ever look that nice apart from the paint, which is slowly aquiring dings and scratches anyway. However to not sound like a totally miserable bastard, the basic ingredients are all there for a bit of fun, and everythings running well. Since Kyteler was in town post Nats, I thought he might be able to help diagnose some traction issues... Nope, still a mystery, more field testing required I think. and went for a bit of a geez at my Dads Z10 which is still very much a work in progress. Plan is to take the car for a cert check, and then if it fails I'll have a list of things to work on. It needs driveshaft loops, but hopefully that's all. Speedo accuracy might be an issue, from memory it's still a bit out. I cant remember which way though, I'll recheck - changing tire profile or diff ratio might be the easiest way to solve, or changing speedo drive once more. My motivation and state of mind re: this project have picked up a bit... It was just amazingly refreshing and motivating to head to the OS Nats, and see everyone elses awesome cars, and speak with some like minded people. It's not often in my day to day life that I talk to anyone who likes or owns older cars, so it's easy to just leave the money pit under a blanket in the garage and get on with other things. Being surrounded by so many awesome people and cars who were enthusiastic about the same sort of thing was fantastic. With OS nats filming now done and dusted, might sell some of my camera stuff to put towards a cert etc and try make some progress.

  20. There's another one half built with a 1UZ mounted that I'm considering... Lots of work to do (front steering rack, finish rollcage, sheet metal work around the engine / gearbox tunnel, re-do 4 link rear) but I'm keen now.

  21. I drove Sheepers' car at the Nats trackday and I now want a 1UZ . They deliver their power like a 4 cylinder (higher in the RPM) but there is LOTS more torque.
