Popular Post sheepers
attached black things to car. i think it looks a million times better than it did. 2016-02-27_04-52-33 by sheepers, on Flickr then the fucking cam cover cracked when i was doing up the bolts so now i have to take it off and do the whole fucking thing again. 2016-02-27_04-52-25 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
still fucking around with the rocket cover. i welded it back up and its ready for paint i just got side tracked by the dizzy. so i took the dizzy cap off for probably the first time since ive owned it and it was a disaster area inside. like it had been full of sea water for the last 10 years. I took the dizzy out and attempted to take it apart. every screw broke the head off when i tried to undo them and the vacuum advance plate was locked solid. I eventually got the thing apart and to my surprise the mechanical advance mechanism seemed to be working fine. it was a but rusty on the mounting plate but ok apart from that. so anywho it took me ages to clean all the shit and rust out of the vacuum advance plate and get it free again. then i had to drill all the broken screws out and re-tap it all. thankfully both the diaphragms on the vacuum advance module were working fine and had no leaks. then i packed it all with grease, set the air gap and put it back together. I put it back in the motor and tried to get it to run and the timing (which I had marked and then put back in the same place) was out by miles. When I eventually got it to run it was advanced by about 50 degrees. Im really surprised it ran at all like that but it did. Had to go back two teeth on the drive cam to get the dizzy into a spot where it was close and had adjustment to move the housing around. Once I got it close and started trying to set the timing properly it behaved really erratically. It would be sweet at idle, then Id give it a little rev and the timing would wander around all over the place. It kept doing this and I got pissed off with it and revved the shit out of it. after id done that it settled down and worked as it should. Turned out id put so much grease into the mechanical advance mechanism that the weights weren’t returning properly. After id revved it and flung all the grease out a bit the weights could move freely and it worked perfectly. All good. So it was time for a road test, got to the end of my road and pulled half way out into the main road and it died. Turns out the fuel pump had shit itself. So, push it back in to the garage, figure out what had happened, chuck another pump in it and drive it round the block. HEAPS better. So after all the kerfuffle the dizzy is now good as new but I still haven’t painted the rocket cover.
Popular Post sheepers
after multiple fuck ups on my part involving welding the cam cover back together then breaking it again numerous times i finally got it sorted, in that Mike gave me another one with cooler text on it. the other one is usable but this one is way better. so this evening i attempted to paint it and highlight the letters. what a fuck around. so i got there in the end. I'm not a fan of painting clear straight onto aluminum but Richie wouldn't shut up so i did it this way. 2016-03-07_07-19-04 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-07_07-19-13 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-07_07-19-23 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
i just chucked them on to see what they look like. the photos look a bit weird because the light is reflecting weirdly, or some shit like that. 2016-03-08_04-40-17 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-08_04-40-26 by sheepers, on Flickr

Popular Post sheepers
i gave the injectors a spruce up and a coat of paint. then attached new injector seals and put it all back together. its starting to look about right. I've still got the bottom windage tray to attach and the fan shroud, both of which need a good clean up and a coat of paint. im also missing the proper oil cap for this rocker cover and i need to get a hose to make the breather pipe with. Mikes got the oil cap so i just need to get it off him and paint it. next is to start on the interior so ill do the heater box and put that back in first i think. 2016-03-16_06-27-44 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-16_06-27-59 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-17_05-38-51 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-17_05-38-58 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-17_05-39-12 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
modified a fan shroud to fit. it didn't have one before and proper TA23 fan shrouds are pretty hard to come by so i made this one fit. then i sand blasted it and I'm in the process of painting it right now, just waiting for the primer to flash off. the other thing is that the fan sits a long away from the radiator and i wasn't happy with that so i made some spacers to move the fan forward about 30mm. now it will sit inside the shroud and actually do something. i should also paint the fan black i suppose. 2016-03-18_07-08-02 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-18_07-08-11 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-18_07-08-41 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-19_12-57-34 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-19_01-35-53 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-19_02-21-48 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
i fucked up the paint on the shroud. not sure exactly what i did but i think i didn't let the black dry enough before i put the clear on. ill have a go at fixing it tomorrow. fuck.
Popular Post sheepers
so after spending more hours on a radiator shroud than anyone in history i fixed it. what a fuck around, but the end result looks good and thats the aim of the game i suppose. in other news the "rego on hold" letter came in the post and it expires at the end of this month so i might try and get a warrant on it before the end of the month. that might be a bit optimistic. 2016-03-20_01-08-06 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-20_01-07-57 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-20_01-06-15 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-20_01-06-07 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-20_12-23-53 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
fuck this thing need a massive dose of low. anywho i installed radiator shroud. you can see the fan is a bit closer to the radiator and might do a bit more than move air around itself. 2016-03-20_06-18-07 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-20_06-17-53 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
i made a thing so i can fit an air cleaner. ill probably cut the end a bit shorter but i don't have a filter yet so ill wait until i get one to figure out the length. 2016-03-28_03-02-45 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-28_03-02-33 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-28_03-31-06 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
air cleaner setup finished. i hunted for ages to find a filter of any sort that had a small enough outlet to suit the 2TG but i couldn't find anything that wasn't utter shit. i had this trust one that I've had for ages and it fit better than anything else id found but it was chrome and the foam filter medium had turned to powder. i found a pod filter that had a similar foam bit so i bought that and the foam fits nicely into the trust pod, unfortunately the foam is blue but you can't have everything. then i took the frame to work and gave it a light bead blast so the paint would stick and i painted it black. job done. and in exciting news i put new plugs in it along with fresh oil and a new filter. oh, and i got the heater core reco-ed and I've put the heater box back together with new foam in it and thats back in the car now. oh and also - the windscreen washer bottle was a bit second hand looking with some of the plastic all powdery and shit so i gave that a light bead blast too. i gave it a thick coat of primer then i sanded it back to try and get it looking a bit more presentable then i painted it black so thats done as well. I've bought a cylindrical radiator overflow bottle that ill mount down beside the side of the radiator and that will just about finish the engine bay i think. 2016-03-29_04-48-47 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-31_04-41-02 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-31_04-41-10 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-31_04-54-52 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
been doing lots of little bits and pieces. finished painting the last of the engine bay bits. these bits are the oil filler cap, the support bracket between the intake and the cam cover and the radiator over flow bottle. so now those bits are on the car and the overflow is plumbed up. the only thing left to do in the engine bay is plug in the windscreen washer pump and run a hose for the windscreen washers. I'm pretty sure thats all? I've started on the dash resurrection now. all the plastic dash bits had been painted with some crap paint so I've had to very carefully bead blast them all and give them a coat of VHT plastic dye. they've come up looking really good but one of the parts that always cracks on celicas had cracked and someone had tried to fix it but they made the plastic deform around the break so now I've glued it back together but it looks shit. what else? the dash pad ill be putting in this car will be the one out of the V8. it was re-covered in auz about 15 years ago and it looks fine but I'm getting a dash fully redone at dashboard restorations and ill put that into the V8 and use the V8 dash in this car. all the hearer box is back in and I've put new foam seals on all the joints. 'oh, and I've got new inner and outer belt line seals for this car and they just turned up today so i can put them on as well. oh and also I've found someone in auz with an original pair of seat belts that they are willing to sell so they are on their way too. 2016-04-07_06-51-00 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-04-07_06-51-46 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-04-07_06-52-02 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-04-07_07-00-13 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
got a bit done over the weekend. friday night Nick came over and we finished up the wiring that was left to do and tidied it all up so thats finished now. the relays you can see in the pic will tuck up behind the plastic panel kick panel. i put the dash back in the car, I've run out of paint so I still have the glove box lid and the centre bit to put back in. all the gauges and lights work which is a bonus. today i set about mounting the drivers seat properly. the drivers seat is mounted further back than the passengers seat because id already modified the rails when this seat was in the blue car and it seemed stupid to put it in the car so only short people could drive it. so the front bolts into the factory mounting places but the rear needed doubler plates as per the LVVTA standard. as it happens Clint needed something machined so he came over and had a look at what i was doing and gave it the OK so thats good. what i did was weld the doubler plate to the seat rail with gussets so that the plate could sit on a nice flat part of the floor. the bolt comes up from the bottom with the other plate under the floor to secure it as per the standard. the pictures are a bit pants but you should be able to see how its done. 2016-04-10_04-55-24 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-04-10_04-55-16 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-04-10_04-55-06 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-04-10_04-54-57 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
did a bit more tonight. mostly cleaning and painting trim pieces. the dash is all finished as is the center console and the kick panels. should finish the trim bits tomorrow. in my search for a heater duct (which i didn't find) i found this, 2016-04-11_08-59-07 by sheepers, on Flickr so no idea why i have this. i know where it came from, it was in the mass of parts that came with my RA28 when i bought it. I've always assumed it was 18RG because there were some RG parts in amongst the things but nothing 2T so it pretty weird that it was there. anywho, its internals are in better nick than the one on the car and its got a single diaphragm vacuum advance module which should work better and eliminate some stupid emissions crap. ill chuck it on and see how it goes.

Popular Post sheepers
aint no update like a picture less update. things done today or last night in no particular order made a parcel shelf out of 12mm MDF and carpeted it and stuck that it. cleaned the rear seats and put them back in (they will get recovered when all the carpets and that get done) installed the front and rear seat belts painted the rear door cards and put them in painted the front door cards and put them in put the passengers seat in put the new inner and outer belt line seals in pumped another 2 liters of cavity wax into the sills and doors cleaned and painted the sill trims drove it around the block a few times. its starting to look like a car now, I've got to pull the brakes apart so i can match up some seals and then its wof time.
sheepers
today i put the door seals on and took the brakes apart so i can match some seals up for them at Stirling Clutch and Brake. i also took the dizzy out so i could give the other one a try but it turned out that the one i found needs an external module that i don't have so i put the original one back in. and it wouldn't go. no spark at all. fucked around with it to no avail so I've given up for now. bastard of a thing. if i wanted a car that randomly decided to stop working all on its own id have bought a fucking british piece of crap. fuck.
sheepers
this is the ignition module that lives inside the dizzy. ordinarily its not in two pieces but my one is. its fucked which is the cause of the non existent spark. 2016-04-18_09-24-00 by sheepers, on Flickr it goes without saying that the module is impossible to replace so Nick the sparky bought over some other bis and pieces to see if we could get the car to go again. we put a system together using parts he had but it only worked sometimes so Nick is going to test them properly tomorrow so we know which bit (the pickup or the module) is fucked and then go about trying to find new ones. hopefully then it will go properly. 2016-04-18_09-24-09 by sheepers, on Flickr on to other things. brakes, i have them. i got all the parts i needed from Sterling so i was able to put new seals and hoses in the front and new slaves in the rear. its been a very long time since I've had anything to do with stock celica brakes and man are they shit. they have a stupid slider setup that wasn't a good idea when they were new, let alone 40 years later. BUT - the good thing about celica struts is that the brake bracket bolts on with 4 bolts (rather that the caliper mount being part of the casting) so its pretty easy to make brackets to suit pretty much anything you want to fit. 2016-04-18_04-08-52 by sheepers, on Flickr other things that happened - the windscreen washers work now, ummm thats about it. if we can get the thing to run I'm going to try and take it for a warrant this week. 2016-04-18_07-15-18 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-04-18_07-15-26 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-04-18_07-15-04 by sheepers, on Flickr
