so i left the door in the sun all day and when i came home it was hard enough to sand.

so i did. its now really good shape wise and needs 1 more coat of primer and its ready for wet sanding along with all the other panels in the shed.

why is it leaning up against the bench? because I'm painting the seams inside the door and i want the paint to run into the seam. ill do each seam 1 day at a time turning the door each time to get the paint right in there.

you can see it running out the lock hle because I've been painting the whole inside of the door.

next is the bonnet.

actually next i think ill fit the panels I've done and see how everything lines up before i go to much further.

after the bonnet its the rear quarters and the roof to do as well as the minor bits and bobs. its getting there…..

it'll be red soon if I'm not careful

filled the inside of the boot lid with paint and finished filling the passengers door also.

i took the bonnet off and got that ready for its first coat of primer. it had two little rust holes in the front edge which i cut out and welded in new bits. it had a couple of dents in it so i got it a bit better before priming it. it had the primer on it which was over the whole car. i have no idea what it is but it sands ok.

so bonnet got its first coat of primer and passenger door got what i hope is its last.

aint done much today.

i cut some holes in the boot lid frame so i can get the cavity wax nozzle in there and blast that shit everywhere. also i put so much paint in it the other day that when i turned it upside down paint started running out of the seams, 3 days latter. you can see it in the picture on the left. must be a fair amount of paint sloshing about in there which i s good.

i sanded both rear quarters back looking for rust and general dodgy shit. i took WHOLE BUNCH of bog out of the passengers side but apart from that there wasn't much to find. there is a dent in the drivers side thats pretty hard to fathom how it got there but thats about it.

so after removing a ton of superfluous bog i laid a sealer coat of primer over it all. ill start getting some shape into it this week.

also i tripped on my air hose while i was carrying the bonnet and dropped it on the panel stand putting two nice dents in the skin. i need a grown up to help me because i think ill fuck it if i hit it any more.

Peter fixed the bonnet for me. i brushed some primer on the bare patches and gave it a sand back so now i can continue with getting the bonnet flat and fitting it to the car.

i also resurrected a pair of bonnet hinges that Mike gave me (celica bonnet hinges are made from wet bus tickets and every single one of them folded in half a week after leaving the showroom floor) and ill fit the bonnet with them. once its in the right place and the hinges are bent back to where they need to be ill make some plates and weld them up so they don't flop about again.

fuck, what a day. i have worked my arse off today but its been worth it.

got shape 90% finished on the passengers side rear quarter and then i put some paint on it. badly. made a schoolboy error by blazing paint on without setting up my gun first. id only used it the other day but i forgot i changed all the settings when i cleaned it. i thought it was all set up but it wasn't. runs all around the guard lip.

don't matter, its got a bit to go yet but still disappointing.

whilst waiting for food to cook i thought id show you this.

its pretty good for the first block. apart from the couple of bits sticking through its correct shape wise and you could, if you were a ruff cunt, spot prime this patches and put colour on it because its that close.

very happy about that. it will get one more coat of primer and a final block before colour.

passengers side is getting pretty close now.

there was a bit of mismatch between the panels so i had to put a bit of filler in to get the panels flush. wasn't much but it will make it look millions better.

got a few things to do this week so it'll probably be the weekend before i can paint it all.

then its onto the front and rear scuttle and starting to think about putting some colour into the shuts and engine bay.

peter is going to do the roof week after next so its getting pretty close now.

got the rear bumper fitted to make sure it would line up. and it does, after much fucking around by me and many bending and hitting and tweaking.

i only have two rear bumpers and the other one is pretty rusty so i have to use this one. its been sanded and was painted at some point. i think ill tidy it up and paint it again. Richie had the idea of painting the bumpers and the wheels a sort of gun metal colour and i think it should look really good so I'm going to do that.  i aint got the cash monies to get both bumpers re-chromed so paint it will have to be.

once i was happy with the bumper fit i stripped the rear panel looking for rust and dodgy repairs. i found plenty of bog and a semi bad fuckup in one corner but nothing to bad.

ill fix the corner and put a coat of sealer on it tomorrow i expect then get it ready for colour.

there was a couple of patches that i didn't like the look of so i went digging and sure enough, captan fuckup had been there and made a fucking mess.

its quite common for these to rust around the outside bottom corner of the tail light housing and they rust from the inside out usually. there are 3 skins that overlap and all the laps point up so any water is just going to work its way in there.

you can see a repair in the photo above in the bottom corner of the drivers side.

so i cut out all the horror and made new bits. i also removed the tow hook and made a whole new corner for that side bottom bit because it was a bit haku in there.

rust removed and copper weld thru primed in behind. the pictures make it look really lumpy and shit but its not like that in real life.

cleaned the car out and took the sunroof out.

somehow the sunroof glass got broken and the rest of it got fucking mangled so the cunt of a thing can never ruin another car.

so now its onto the roof. I've got to get a couple of patches fixed before Peter can do the sunroof.

this is what it looks like now.

this picture gives a good indication of just how ripply the roof is. how the fuck they managed to fuck it that bad i have no idea but Peter sees no problem in fixing it. oh, and he's going to make some new gutters for it too because they've been hacked off.
