sheepers
so i tried again. step one - remove all the red and all the fucked up primer and what not. sounds easy, not so much. ended up needing to attack with 80 gritt and remove everything, even the paint underneath. 2015-12-18_05-20-00 by sheepers, on Flickr step two - re-prime. 2015-12-18_06-48-16 by sheepers, on Flickr however, i was unhappy with the surface and what it would look like if i just 420blazed it over the top of this rough as guts surface so I've decided to just let it dry and ill give it a fix up tomorrow and then colour as normal. and in other news this is what a grand gets you in the paint world. 2015-12-18_06-52-30 by sheepers, on Flickr this is essentially the paint for the outside of the car. 4L of colour, 5L of reducer for the colour, 5L of clear and its hander. which should be more than enough. I've got another 4L of colour for the insides and whatnot which should be heaps. oh, and about 3L of clear. and 4L of primer should i need it. i think that makes my third tin of primer for this car?

Popular Post sheepers
todays efforts. shelled out another 500 on paint supplies. 2015-12-21_04-38-21 by sheepers, on Flickr put some underseal on the insides of the front guards. 2015-12-21_04-39-06 by sheepers, on Flickr then i put the doors and guards back on the car and re-aligned the panels. they're not perfect yet but they are pretty close so I'm happy with that for now. 2015-12-21_08-04-24 by sheepers, on Flickr and after that i sanded he back of the boot and gave it a coat of colour and clear so thats done now. 2015-12-21_08-25-47 by sheepers, on Flickr

Popular Post sheepers
today i took the motor out and in traditional OS tradition here is a picture of me playing actual guitar in the hole. you probably can't tell but I'm playing a fine rendition of the sound of silence. 2015-12-24_04-25-34 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-12-24_04-08-58 by sheepers, on Flickr so, onward. whats wrongs with this picture?? 2015-12-24_02-54-59 by sheepers, on Flickr thats right keen eyed reader! the pipey bits should line up with the slots in the fire wall, but they don't. id been intrigued by this oddity for some time and today after i got the motor out i decided it was time to investigate. i have no fucking clue how this was assembled in this way, i could not get it out without breaking the housing. its the wrong heater core but i suppose that much was obvious. there just was no way of getting it out without breaking it. so i broke it. 2015-12-24_03-02-46 by sheepers, on Flickr whatchaaaa gonna do now? well, tomorrow is Christmas day so ill probably take tomorrow off. boxing day however is prep engine bay day.
sheepers
Richie came over today and gave me a hand to sand the engine bay. he did a bang up job and now its almost ready for paint, i just gotta weld up a couple of holes where i took off a bracket and its ready to paint. while Richie was doing the hard graft in the engine bay i made some plates up and gusseted the bonnet hinges. celica bonnet hinges are super weak and fold up like wet bus tickets so I've added a bit of strength to them. 2015-12-26_03-31-46 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-12-26_03-31-36 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
so today i finished the prep work and all the little things that needed doing and painted the engine bay. and the hinges and assorted other bits that need colour. came out alright. its a tiny bit orange peely but i dont actually think you'll see it when its back together. 2015-12-27_05-11-30 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-12-27_05-12-01 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-12-27_05-17-35 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
back of the bonnet is painted. and that is the end of the all the parts that need to be red. unless I've forgotten something which is likely. gonna try and get the motor back in now and make it go again so i can drive it into the booth. 2015-12-28_02-29-11 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-12-28_02-29-21 by sheepers, on Flickr
sheepers
as you can see in the pictures above the radiator support panel is/was mostly black. the paint that was on it wasn't stuck to anything so i had to scrape it all off to get back to something that was stuck. this turned out to be the factory blue colour that the car was originally. 2015-12-29_11-03-53 by sheepers, on Flickr after scraping all that horseshit off i sanded it and then put some primer on it. I'm waiting for the primer to flash off then I'm going to paint it black. I'm painting the brake booster while I'm at it. 2015-12-29_01-39-55 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-12-29_01-40-04 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-12-29_01-40-12 by sheepers, on Flickr so in a couple of hours it should all be shiny black. ill chuck some pictures up latter today when its painted.

sheepers
today i started final sanding the outside of the car ready for colour. I've never dry sanded a car for the final prep before so i spent the morning trying different things and in the end it became apparent that i could use the 150mm DA for the big flat bits. so I've been using the DA with 400 to knock the tops off then going back and finishing it with 600. this has worked a treat on the big flat surfaces and is about two billion precent faster than doing it by hand with water. I've finished the boot lid, the roof and the bonnet. early in the day i was still trying to see if i was fucking up the lines using the DA so I've been wiping the panels with prepsol quite a lot and everything looks good. so i started on the rear quarter and thats about 80% finished. once again I've been using prepsol heaps to see how the lines look and so far so good. dunno if ill get anything done tomorrow. it was cripplingly hot today and for a while i was long boarding it by hand which nearly killed me. i might take a day off tomorrow.
Popular Post sheepers
after having two whole days off i was feeling like it was time to get some more shit done. so i did. i drilled the holes for the badges and the mirrors and checked their fitment. all good. 2016-01-03_11-43-18 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-01-03_11-42-55 by sheepers, on Flickr i started sanding but it was cripplingly hot and muggy as fuck so i took a break from that and aligned all the front panels properly and then i set about getting the front bumper to fit right. its a pet hate of mine when celica bumpers don't line up right at the sides (both my other cars look terrible and i haven't fixed it….) so i wanted this to be right. as is always the case the bumper had been stretched by being hit on the apex of the bend on the front. they are all like this and they splay at the sides because of it. I'm going to paint these bumpers (because they have already been fucked in a past life so not much choice really) so i was able to cut it and close up the gap to bring it back to how it should be. after a fair amount of fucking around i got it so I'm happy with the fit. its about 2mm higher on one side than the other but I'm not going to loose sleep about it. 2016-01-03_02-43-34 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-01-03_02-43-44 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-01-03_02-44-06 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-01-03_02-44-23 by sheepers, on Flickr so then it was back to the sanding. the saying "sweat blinding you" has never been more true. fuck it was muggy. anywho i reckon the car is about 75% done on the sanding front. I've got a few things to fix and stuff about with but on the whole its coming along nicely. my goal is to paint it on the 6th, but Greg (who will be painting it) isn't back until the 5th so i can't talk to him about it until then. i did talk to him about it before the break and the vague plan was to paint it about that week somewhere. hopefully tomorrow i can get the body to 99% then i just need to stuff about and make things exactly how i want them. we shall see. 2016-01-03_04-11-15 by sheepers, on Flickr
Popular Post sheepers
she's pretty close now. I've just spot primed a few bits and tomorrow ill give them a sand and its ready for paint. i could fuck around with it for another few days and quite frankly you'd never see any difference, but I'm at the "imagining you've seen a deviation in the panel" stage now which means its about as good as I'm going to get it. ill go and have a yarn to Greg first thing and see what his thoughts are. hopefully we'll paint it this week. i should know tomorrow. 2016-01-04_03-45-41 by sheepers, on Flickr

Popular Post sheepers
I've been doing a few things to get the car running again. the wiring loom is hilarious in its fuckedness. Nick came over the other night and went through it and fixed a whole bunch of shit. there is still a bit to do to get the wiring sorted but its getting there, and its become apparent why it was difficult to get the starter to engage among other things. I'm going to hide most of the loom except for a small bit that goes under the radiator so its needs work anyway. so it now has brakes and a clutch again. I've attached a few bits and I've been cleaning and prepping other bits to go back on. oh, and Greg came over earlier tonight and fixed a couple of runs and polished them out. 2016-01-14_08-38-00 by sheepers, on Flickr
