buzzysam
just scored a dirt cheap 4g61t with a 1800 62t head on it, i was wondering how easy it will be to put it into my 78 lancer, currently runnng a sohc 4g63 with 4 speed. *will 1800 dohc head bolt onto 2lt bottem end *are the 61s narrow block any info on this kind of conversion would be a big help. cheers
OSM Garage
If you're running a 4G63 narrowblock engine now, your 4G61 will slip right in. 4G61s are narrowblock. Now, ill probably get corrected if im wrong, but, the only turbo 4G62 was SOHC? If thats correct then the 1800 DOHC head you have is from a 4G67 which none of them came turbo. 4G67 head will fit a 4G63 block
fuel
yeah why is a SOHC 4G62 head on a 4G61?
buzzysam
did some research, its a 1800 dohc head, posably a bigport as it has vr4 intake, what about engin mounts on 61, can i use my 63 mounts?
OSM Garage
Yes, you can use your engine mounts.
fuel
the later 4G61 comes factory with the 4G67 cylinder head, the only difference is the camshafts used. They have the same port size as the VR-4 but smaller combustion chambers. Many VR-4 guys swap the 4G61/67 head on to bump up the compression ratio.
