The_Jims
Hi everyone, My mate and I decided to replace his single weber carburretor on his 1.6L Kent Ford Escort Mk2, with a twin weber carb yesterday. However, we are having trouble getting the car to start and are wondering if the carburretor is faulty, or if we have done anything wrong when installing the carb... The carb squirts fuel into the barrels fine, yet when we try to turn the car over it wont ignite, and when trying to turn the car over whilst pumping the gas we get flames exploding out of the carb (from too much fuel im guessing)... Would it just be the tuning screws possibly way out of tune? We have tried tuning the carb but cant really succeed obviously. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Jimmy
sholdowa
what did your carb come off / is it a 28/36 or 32/36 / did it come off a running engine recently??? If it's been lying around for a while, did you clean it up / check the jets / clean any crud out of the manifold??

I think it is a 32/36..Will have to double check. It came off the same engine 2 years ago but we took it apart and cleaned the hell out of it... It has been lying around for the last 2 years but we also gave it another good clean just before we put it on and didnt seem to find any faults etc... Cheers! BlownCorona
whats the timing like? you shouldn't be getting ignition on the other side of the valved at all, the car should at the very least splutter or something with the screws tuned wrong. though in saying that, i did too ONCE get a flame poke out the top of my 32/36. not sure why (ive fine tuned the timing since them so maybe that), but its the reason i dont run foam filters, fire hazard at best... edit, ive fixed a lot of motorbike engines by starting the engine with engine start and then revving it for a bit and just running fuel through the whole lot, i can get a nice base tune on it and it starts quite easily afterwards for fine tuning. just don't start the engine on engine start all the time cause it'll only cause damage
