efp0wa
Hey everyone! Yesterday I purchased a '84 Nissan Laurel featuring a ld28 and 5spd. The vehicle came into the country at 75,xxxkm in 1995 and upto today has done 91,xxxkm. I'm new to diesels.. Apparently the vehicle sat around for a few years under a cover in a shed. The guy I bought it from said it still has the same diesel in it since it was in storage (I got the car with just over 1/4 tank of diesel). I was wondering what servicing I should give it? I know its not upto 100,000km yet and these motors are fairly bullet proof but i thought i might do it soonish anyway. Should I change the motor, gearbox and diff oil? Do i need to check anything with the injector pump? Radiator coolant is looking rather brown, so I'll probly need to flush the radiator. Do these motors have alloy heads, what mix of glycon and water should i use? Thanks
bigfoot
i would probably just change all the fluids and filters as they probably have never been done.as for the injector pump about the only way to find out if it leaks is to run it. the water pump will probably be f@#$ed too
efp0wa
So motor, diff, gearbox, coolant fluids. And air, oil and fuel filters? Why do you think that about the waterpump?
bigfoot
yup everything, at least then you know the condition of everything. when the engine sits around for a while the seals in the water pump rust onto the shaft so as soon as you start it= leak
efp0wa
Will it be noticable? I dont see any leaks externally. How big of a job is it to do the water pump in a ld28? I found a site with a workshop manual for the motor before but havn't look at it yet.
Requiemk
Inspect airfilter before replacing as i bit of compressed air should probably do the trick. Radiator and radiator cap condition. Once you get it going new headlights will help out to with old cars Just run it on new fluids and if it leaks replace it
